Westbrook Boys’ Hoops Wins Regular Season Finale; Girls’ Hoops Playing in State Tourney

The Westbrook boys’ basketball team finished its regular season with a win and then look a loss in the Shoreline Conference Tournament last week. The Knights won their regular season finale against Haddam-Killingworth, before losing to Cromwell in the Shoreline quarterfinals.
On Feb. 18, Westbrook hosted H-K and scored a 50-48 win over the Cougars to complete the regular season at 6-14. Then on Feb. 23, the 8th-seeded Knights traveled to Cromwell to take on the top-seeded Panthers in the quarterfinals of the Shoreline Conference Tournament. Westbrook lost a 60-32 contest versus Cromwell to finish the year with an overall record of 6-15, marking a two-win improvement from last season.
Girls’ Basketball
Westbrook is the No. 27 seed in the Class S State Tournament and opened the bracket with a first-round game at No. 6 seed Putnam (16-4) on Feb. 25 (after press time). With a victory, the Knights (9-12) would either play at No. 11 Bloomfield or No. 22 Abbott Tech in a second-round contest on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. The Class S quarterfinals are on Monday, March 4; the semis take place on Friday, March 8 and the Class S state final will be held at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville on either Saturday, March 16 or Sunday, March 17.
