Claude Sprints to 5th in the 300 at Sectionals
The Hornets’ girls’ indoor track team saw several athletes compete at last week’s SCC West Sectional Championship meet. Branford scored seven points and finished in ninth place at Floyd Little Athletic Center on Jan. 23.
Senior Liante Claude turned in the Hornets’ top individual performance by taking fifth place in the 300-meter dash with a time of 44.23 seconds. Junior Rose Lockery finished ninth in the event by running a time of 45.99. In the 1,600-meter run, freshman Bella Finta paced her way to an eighth-place performance by crossing the finish line in 6:09.19.
Branford also turned in a pair of solid showings in relay events at the meet. The Horents’ 4x800 relay of junior Maya Kyriakides, sophomore Nami Bolat, senior Stephanie Tostie, and Finta finished fourth by recording a time of 11:27.14. The 4x200 relay featuring Lockery, freshman Katie Laska, freshman Julia Duffy, and Claude took sixth place with a time of 1:56.72.
“The girls in the 4x200 really came along and improved by three seconds. We have a strong lead ff and anchor, and now the freshmen have really improved,” said Head Coach Kevin Connell. “We had some nice performances from our younger athletes and look forward to the SCC Championship meet.”
