The Haddam-Killingworth football team ran its record to 8-1 this year after recording another impressive victory last week. The Cougars earned a 42-12 road win over Old Saybrook-Westbrook in a Pequot Conference Sassacus Division game at Old Saybrook High School on Nov. 10. H-K is in the No. 8 spot for the Class S State Playoff rankings in which the top eight teams qualify. The Cougars also improved to 6-1 in divisional play with their win against the Rams.
Tobey Callender ran 11 times for 206 yards and two touchdowns when the Cougars routed Old Saybrook-Westbrook (4-4, 4-2). Dalton Modehn carried the ball 13 times for 163 yards and had a pair of TDs. Zach Kauffman and Trey Callender both added a 1-yard touchdown run in the victory.
“We knew that Old Saybrook-Westbrook had a strong running game, and we set up a game-plan for the kids to stop their run, which they did,” said Head Coach Mike Baklik. “I’m proud of the way they executed the game-plan today on both sides of the ball. It’s the kind of effort we needed before we go against a very good Valley team in the annual Principal’s Cup game.”
Haddam-Killingworth concludes its regular season by facing divisional rival Valley Regional-Old Lyme (7-1, 5-1) in the teams’ annual battle for the Principal’s Cup at Valley Regional High School in Deep River at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20. Valley-Old Lyme is currently in the No. 10 slot for the Class S State Playoff standings.
