Both Guilford Soccer Squads Notch Wins; Volleyball Improves to 11-2
Boys’ Soccer
The Indians’ boys’ soccer team picked up a victory over rival Branford to go with a pair of defeats last week. Guilford now has an overall record of 4-5-1 on the year.
Guilford doubled up Branford by a 4-2 final on Oct. 1. The Indians then took a 2-1 defeat against Hand on Oct. 3. The Indians concluded their week by dropping a 6-3 decision versus Shelton on Oct. 5.
In the win against Branford, Erik LePeak netted three goals to record a hat trick for the Indians. After Branford went up 1-0 on a penalty kick, Aidan Buchanan put Guilford on the board to tie it at 1-1. LePeak scored a few minutes later to give the Indians a 2-1 lead at the half. LePeak added two more goals in the second half, before Branford scored the final goal of the day on another PK.
Versus Hand, Guilford scored on an early cross from Evan Lemon to Anthony Ippolito, who finished it on a header. Minutes later, Hand scored on a cross of its own. About 20 minutes into second half, Hand scored the go-ahead goal after a misplayed clearance by the Indians.
In the Shelton loss, LePeak scored a pair of goals for Guilford.
Girls’ Soccer
Guilford picked up its first victory of the season by defeating East Haven in last week’s action. The Indians also lost two contests on the week to move to 1-4-4 overall with a record of 1-0-2 in the SCC Hammonasset Division.
The Indians took a 2-1 defeat against Cheshire on Oct. 1. Guilford then grabbed its first win of the year by posting a 2-0 shutout over divisional opponent East Haven on Oct. 3. After that, Indians lost to Mercy by the final score of 2-0 on Oct. 5.
Volleyball
The Indians improved to 11-2 on the year after putting together perfect week. Guilford also has an unblemished record of 5-0 in the SCC Oronoque Division this season.
Guilford swept Hamden by a 3-0 score on Oct. 1. The Indians then recorded another sweep by earning a 3-0 victory versus Hand on Oct. 3. On Oct. 5, Guilford notched a 3-0 sweep against North Haven in an Oronoque Division matchup.
Girls’ Swimming and Diving
Guilford had one meet last week and gave a valiant effort in a loss versus Law. The Indians faced Law on Oct. 4 and dropped an 84-78 decision at Soundview YMCA in Branford.
