Wings Lose to Suffield in State Semifinals; Branford Boys’ Hockey Eliminated in First Round

The Branford-East Haven-North Branford girls’ ice hockey team took a 7-0 loss against the Suffield co-op squad in the semifinals of the State Tournament on March 9. The Wings completed their season with a record of 18-5.
The Wings were the No. 8 seed in the State Tournament, and Head Coach Jack Norton’s club had advanced to the semifinal round by defeating Northwest Catholic-Mercy (6-3) in the first round and then upsetting top-seeded Greenwich (4-1) in the quarterfinal round of the bracket. Then last week, the Wings faced off with No. 4 seed Suffield-Enfield-Housatonic-Ellington-Metropolitan Learning Center in the semifinals and lost by the final score of 7-0 at The Rinks at Shelton. Suffield went on to play Darien in the state final.
Boys’ Ice Hockey
The Branford boys’ ice hockey squad saw its 2017-’18 season come to a close in the first round of the Division II State Tournament, when the Hornets dropped a 2-1 decision to South Windsor at Northford Ice Pavilion on March 6.
Branford, which was the No. 8 seed, finished the year with an overall record of 13-7-1 in its second year with Jim DiNapoli as head coach. No. 9 seed South Windsor advanced to the quarterfinals and lost a 7-1 contest against top-seeded Farmington to finish the year with a record of 8-12-2.
