Several Huskies’ Clubs See Recent Victories
Girls’ Soccer
The Morgan girls’ soccer squad was on the field for two matches last week and grabbed a win and a tie to bring its record to 2-2-1 on the year.
On Sept. 21, the Huskies were on the road to face Portland and secured a 3-1 victory. Courtney Viglione scored two goals for Morgan, and Carley Schmidt netted a goal, as well. Robyn Vuilleumier, Issy Ranaudo, and Alyssa LeMay each handed out an assist in the Huskies’ victory. Rebecca Cockley defended the net with seven saves on the day as Morgan outshot the Highlanders 13-8.
Two days after that victory, the Huskies hosted Valley Regional, and the Shoreline Conference rivals played to a 2-2 stalemate. Allie Gardner and Kylee Clifton scored goals for Morgan, and LeMay assisted on both of them. Cockley made four saves in net.
Boys’ Soccer
The Huskies hit the pitch for two games last week and got a split to move to 4-1 on the season.
On Sept. 18, Morgan claimed a 4-0 victory in Portland. In their final game of the week, the Huskies faced Valley Regional at the Indian River Complex and lost a 3-2 decision to the Warriors.
Volleyball
Morgan played a couple of matches last week and picked up a victory in one of them to move to 3-2.
On Sept. 18, the Huskies played Valley Regional at home and lost 3-0. Later in the week, Morgan was back home for a matchup against East Hampton and won 3-0 against the Bellringers.
Field Hockey
The Huskies saw a win, a loss, and a tie in their recent slate of games. Morgan now has a record of 1-2-2.
On Sept. 18, Morgan played Haddam-Killingworth on the road and lost a 4-0 contest against the Cougars.
The next day, the Huskies had a home match against Somers at the Indian River Complex and grabbed their first win of the season by prevailing 5-0. Aryn McQuarrie scored three goals in the victory, while Jordan McMillan had two goals with an assist. Sam Mena and Falyn McQuarrie added goals, and Gabby Vigoritto had an assist for the Huskies, who outshot Somers 21-1 and saw Abby Gordon make one save in the cage.
Then on Sept. 22, the Huskies were at home again to take on Westbrook, and the game ended in a 0-0 draw. Gordon had seven saves.
Girls’ Cross Country
Kate Daley came in first place at Run to the Sun Invitational at Coginchaug High School in Durham. In the 5K, Daley set a new personal best when she finished with a time of 19:40.36.
Boys’ Cross Country
Chayse Lofgren set a personal record of 18:27.79 at the Run to the Sun Invitational last week. With his performance, Lofgren came in 12th place at the meet.
Football
Morgan hosted Haddam-Killingworth at the Peters Complex on Sept. 22 and took a 21-7 defeat. The Huskies are now 0-3 on the season.
The Cougars were the first to get on the board with a rushing touchdown in the first quarter. They added another in the frame on a long run to go up 14-0. The Huskies got back within a single score when Deven Talarcyzk connected with Ryan Caldwell on a 41-yard pass into the end zone. Anthony Coretti kicked the extra point through the uprights to make it 14-7. After a scoreless third quarter, Haddam-Killingworth scored another touchdown and went on to win 21-7.
Next, Morgan will head to North Branford to face the Thunderbirds on Friday, Sept. 29 at 6:30 p.m.
