North Branford Field Hockey, Girls’ Soccer Continue Winning Early
Field Hockey
After beating rival Haddam-Killingworth to start the year, the Thunderbirds’ field hockey squad stayed hot by winning two games on the road last week to improve to 3-0 this season.
On Sept. 11, North Branford took on Stamford and came away with a 3-1 victory. Senior captain Emmy Norton played an aggressive game for North Branford, scoring a goal on an assist from Ava Galdenzi at the 26:41 mark of the contest. After Stamford knotted the game, junior Angelina Ramada took over as she scored the only two goals of the second half to propel the T-Birds to victory. Jordan Regan recorded four saves in goal for North Branford.
North Branford then took on Morgan on Sept. 14 and won 7-2. It was a huge team effort for the T-Birds with many players seeing time on the field. Junior captain Amy Raucci recorded her first career hat trick for North Branford. Senior captain Danielle Ramada opened the scoring with a goal off a corner at the 28:50. Angelina Ramada had a goal and an assist, freshman Sophia Anastasio assisted on a goal, and Galdenzi scored her first career varsity goal on an assist from Melanie Norton. Emmy Norton scored on a breakaway in the second half for North Branford, which saw Regan make nine saves in the win.
Girls’ Soccer
North Branford improved to 2-0 this year after earning its second 1-0 win of the season. This one came on the road as North Branford upended Old Saybrook by a goal to claim the victory.
Volleyball
North Branford posted its first win of the season last week to move to 1-3 this fall. The T-Birds’ victory came on Sept. 11, when they went on the road and defeated Creed by a 3-0 score. North Branford later took 3-0 defeats against Hale-Ray and Morgan.
Football
North Branford took a 44-0 road loss to Cromwell-Portland last week. The Thunderbirds hit the road again with a game against Nonnewaug at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22.
