HK Boys’ Hoops, Ice Hockey Start Seasons; Girls’ Hoops Loses to Old Saybrook
Boys’ Basketball
The Haddam-Killingworth boys’ basketball team began its season with a 64-57 win over Old Saybrook on Dec. 20. A week later, the Cougars took a 73-66 loss to Manchester on the road on Dec. 27 to stand at 1-1.
Last winter, HK qualified for the Class M State Tournament and lost a 70-53 contest against Granby Memorial in the first round. The Cougars finished at 9-12 overall for the season.
Girls’ Basketball
The Cougars recently took a 37-29 loss to Old Saybrook on Dec. 20, after which HK lost to Middletown by a 69-27 final on Dec. 28. HK is 1-3 on the year.
Ice Hockey
Lyman Hall-HK-Coginchaug took a 5-3 loss to Cheshire on Dec. 21 to open the season, but then the Trojans defeated Hand 3-2 in overtime on Dec. 28. Kyle Roberts scored the game-winner 32 seconds into overtime for LH-HK-Cog. Chris Blanchard had scored the tying goal with five minutes left in regulation.
For last season, Head Coach Rich Minnix Lyman Hall/Haddam-Killingworth/Coginchaug won their first game in the Division III State Tournament and then lost in the quarterfinals. The Trojans defeated Tri-Town 7-1 in a first round contest and then lost 5-3 versus Staples-Weston-Shelton to finish at 12-8-3.
