The coronavirus crisis has nearly halted the local economy — including media advertising. That means local, independent news organizations such as ours must fight for our own survival while continuing to provide critical news and information as a public service during this unprecedented situation. Finding the right match in a trainer or gym is a crucial component (and often, half of the battle) in anyone's fitness plan. Luckily, there is an option in Old Saybrook in which you can fi nd former professional golfer and PGA tour caddie, Sam Specter. Specter, owner of Funktion Fitness, is a Certifi ed Level 2 Titleist Performance Institute Trainer and Level 2 Certifi ed Functional Strength Coach.
"We specialize in functional training, movement, and youth performance training," says Specter. "Whether you are an average Joe or a professional athlete, we can adapt to your needs."
Specter says that Funktion Fitness is unique because the staff members care. They don't adhere to the latest fad or trend but to science-based training that focuses on movement quality fi rst and strength second.
"We off er more than any other facility on the shoreline including personal training, team training, boxing, golf performance, group exercise, cycle, youth performance training, and childcare," says Specter.
In 2017, the company started Funktion Foundation to help local organizations and individuals in need including youth and family services agencies, Shoreline Soup Kitchen, and Families Helping Families.
This advice was provided by Funktion Fitness, located at 210 Main Street, Old Saybrook. For more information, call 860-339-5829 or visit funktionfi t.com.
