Connecticut River Museum Anchored in the Community

The Connecticut River Museum (CRM) is a staple in downtown Essex. Among its mission to lead in the study, preservation, and celebration of the Connecticut River and its valley, the museum off ers opportunities for all to get involved.

EDUCATION

The museum's Education Department off ers school vacation workshops and Summer Adventure Camps geared for children age 6-12. Hands-on fun and exploration through art, science, and on-water excursions provide a memorable learning experience. The museum welcomes inquiries from college students seeking internships to support programs.

HOLIDAY TRAIN SHOW

The magic returns to CRM with the 25th annual Holiday Train Show running through Feb. 18, 2019. This family-friendly exhibit, created by train artist Steve Cryan, features more trains, new scenery, and lots of surprises to be found in the fully operational 26-foot model train layout. Visitors can also challenge themselves with the I-SPY scavenger hunt for objects hidden with the displays and throughout the exhibit gallery. Smaller visitors set can get hands-on at an American Flyer and Lionel Train layout designed for toddler size viewing. The exhibit is a true locomotive extravaganza and a perfect outing for train fans and all who are young at heart. The show is sponsored by Lorensen Auto Group, Webster Bank, and Valley Courier.

PRIVATEERS' BASH

This annual winter event, held next on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, is a fun and lively event. Attendees are encouraged to dress in costume (although they are not required) to relive riverfront history. It is what the CRM refers to as "a playful nod to the privateers who made their wealth by relieving foreign ships of their valuable cargo during the War of 1812." The event is a fundraiser to support the organization's programs and exhibitions.
