First Congregational Church Celebrates International Day of Peace

For more than15 years, First Congregational Church of Guilford has celebrated the International Day of Peace on the Guilford Green. This year, the United Nations International Day of Peace is on Wednesday, Sept. 21.

The United Nations established the International Day of Peace in 1981. Around the world school children, families, faith communities, and community organizations participate in art projects, banner making, song, prayer and reflections claiming peace is possible.

Together, can we build peace by overcoming divisions separating neighbor from neighbor?

The International Peace Day Ceremony on the Green is Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. on the Guilford Green. Peace will be expressed through the arts with Julie Fitzpatrick presenting a poem and Reverend Milt Brasher-Cunningham singing. Reverend Mary Anne Osborn of Christ Episcopal Church and Yann van Heurck of the Guilford Peace Allocate will speak. In addition, two area students will share their thoughts on the topic “What Would World Peace Look Like?”

Small international flags will be given to everyone. All are invited to this family-friendly event.
