June 15 to July 5

The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, June 15 - Friday, June 17

No arrests were made.

Saturday, June 18

• A 35 year-old Glastonbury man was arrested at 1:34 p.m. and charged with assault in the third degree and two counts of risk of injury to a minor after troopers were dispatched to the commuter parking lot located at Exit 4 of Route 9 for the report of a domestic assault against a 28 year-old. Upon investigation, troopers determined that there had been a physical altercation between the two parties. The accused was processed on a $5,000 surety bond.

Deep River

Monday, June 20

• A 47 year-old Groton man was arrested at 9:02 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct, threatening in the second degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree, and criminal attempt to commit assault in the second degree. The alleged victim in the case was a 49 year-old who reported to troopers that she had a verbal argument with her boyfriend who then attempted to assault her with an axe. He was processed on a $25,000 surety bond.

Chester

Wednesday, June 15

Thursday, June 16

• A 28 year-old East Haddam man was arrested at 10:32 p.m. and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart (resulting in a rear-end collision), and operating a motor vehicle while using a hand-held cell phone. Troopers responded to the report of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Water Street and Route 154. The vehicle the accused was operating struck a vehicle that was stopped for a red traffic signal. The accused exhibited signs of intoxication. He consented to and failed a series of standardized field sobriety tests. No parties were injured in the crash.

Saturday, June 18

• A 22 year-old Westbrook woman was arrested at 2:49 a.m. and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. She was observed operating a 2020 Toyota Corolla bearing Connecticut license plate BA67669 southbound on Route 9 in the area of Exit 6 erratically, weaving from lane to lane. A traffic stop was initiated, and troopers determined that she was under the influence.

Saturday, July 2

• A 20 year-old Middletown man was arrested at 6:35 p.m. and charged with criminal mischief in the third degree and breach of peace in the second degree following a road rage incident in the area of Route 154 and Route 148.

Sunday, July 3 - Tuesday, July 5
