Police Incident Report for Sept. 2 to 29


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Deep River

Saturday, Sept. 19

• A 25 year-old woman of Hemlock Drive was arrested at 12:59 a.m. and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple-lane highway following a one-vehicle crash. After troopers observed that the accused (the driver) had bloodshot/glossy/dilated eyes, and smelled of alcoholic beverage, probable cause was developed for arrest. She was processed and released on a $500 non-surety bond and was scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court.

• A burglary was investigated at Essex Mart Exxon gas station located at 90 Plains Road. When troopers arrived at the scene, they discovered that the front door to the business had been forced open and a theft of the store’s ATM machine was attempted, but was unsuccessful. It was believed the burglary occurred around 1:30 a.m. Video surveillance from area businesses revealed three suspects who were operating a gray 2012 BMW 528xi bearing Connecticut registration plate AY37708. Anyone with information about this burglary is asked to call the Troop F state police barracks at 860-399-2100.

Friday, Sept. 4

• A 71 year-old Niantic man was arrested at 2:56 p.m. and charged with four counts of criminal violation of a restraining order and four counts of violation of a standing protective order. He was processed on a $10,000 surety bond. The alleged victim was a 63 year-old local person of Collins Lane.

Saturday, Sept. 5 to Wednesday, Sept. 23

No arrests were made.

Thursday, Sept. 24

• A 55 year-old man of Main Street in Ivoryton was arrested at 9:16 a.m. and charged with disorderly conduct, assault in the third degree on a person age 60 or older or who is pregnant or handicapped, unlawful restraint in the second degree, and failure to comply with fingerprint requirements. The alleged victim in the case was an 82 year-old.

Friday, Sept. 25 to Tuesday, Sept. 29
