Police Incident Report for March 4 to Sept. 1


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, March 4 to Wednesday, March 11

Thursday, March 12

No arrests were made.

• A 55 year-old woman of West Avenue was issued a citation at 7:33 a.m. for failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart. She was operating a 2015 BMW X5 on Route 9 northbound when she struck the rear of a 2020 Subaru Ascent Limited operated by a 47 year-old East Hampton woman. The cited driver stated that she was not injured and refused medical attention at the scene. The operator of the struck vehicle stated that she had minor pain in her neck but refused medical attention at the scene.

Friday, March 13

No arrests were made.

• A 22 year-old Westbrook man was issued a citation at 4:36 p.m. for failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart. He was operating a 2010 Acura TSX southbound on Route 153 near the intersection of Ingham Hill Road and struck the rear of a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer operated by a 75 year-old Westbrook man who had slowed to a stop for a vehicle turning left in front of him.

Saturday, March 14 to Sunday, April 12

No arrests were made.

Monday, April 13

• A 37 year-old man of Ivory Street in the Ivoryton section of Essex was arrested at 11:03 a.m. and charged with criminal mischief in the third degree and disorderly conduct following a domestic dispute with a 32 year-old.

Tuesday, April 14

Wednesday, April 15

• A 71 year-old Niantic man was arrested at 5:15 p.m. on a warrant charging him with criminal violation of a restraining order. He was processed on a $2,500 bond

• A one-vehicle crash was investigated at Cumberland Farms, 82 Main Street, at 6:42 p.m. A 51 year-old woman of Laurel Street was operating a 2003 Subaru Forester 2.5XS from Westbrook Road into the parking lot of Cumberland Farms when she traveled in an easterly direction through the parking lot, crashed through a vinyl fence, and then struck the side of the 78 Main Street causing minor damage to the building.

Monday, April 20 to Tuesday, May 12

Wednesday, May 13

• A 57 year-old man of Westbrook Road was arrested and charged with larceny in the sixth degree. A purse was reported stolen purse from a local laundromat in Essex. The owners of the establishment were able to provide troopers with enough information to identify a person of interest in the case, which included a license plate number. Police arrived at the address associated with the license plate and found the purse sitting on the passenger side seat of the vehicle owned by the person of interest, resulting in the arrest.

• A burglary was investigated at Bestway Sunoco gas station located at 1 Saybrook Road at 2:46 a.m. Troopers responded to an active alarm. Upon arrival they determined that forced entry was made into the business and an ATM machine inside the business was stolen.

Monday, June 15 to Thursday, July 16

• A burglary was investigated at Essex Mart, 90 Plains Road, at 5:57 a.m. The front door to the business was forced open and an unknown amount of money and an unknown number of cigarettes were taken. Video surveillance showed what appeared to be four males entering the business wearing hooded sweatshirts, masks, and gloves. They fled the scene in stolen black Infinity Qx60 bearing Connecticut registration plate AY17104.

Saturday, July 25

• A 45 year-old man of Lakeland, Florida was arrested at 7:24 p.m. and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, improper use of marker plate, and operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license.

Sunday, July 26 to Tuesday, Aug. 25

No arrests were made.

Wednesday, Aug. 26

• A 55 year-old man of Main Street in Ivoryton was arrested at 9:16 a.m. and charged with disorderly conduct, assault in the third degree on a person age 60 or older or who is handicapped or pregnant, unlawful restraint in the second degree, and failure to comply with fingerprint requirements. He was processed and held on a $2,500 surety bond he could not post and was transferred to the department of corrections pending court arraignment. The alleged victim in the case was an 82 year-old.

• The theft of a motor vehicle that was left unlocked was investigated on Kirtland Street at 8:16 a.m.

Friday, March 13 to Thursday, April 16

• The theft of a motor vehicle was investigated at 33 Elm Street at 6:20 a.m. A black 2016 Audi station wagon bearing Pennsylvania license plates was stolen from the residential driveway during the early morning hours of April 17. It was unknown if the vehicle was locked. The complainant was a 47 year-old man.

Saturday, April 18 to Friday, June 26

Saturday, June 27

• A 64 year-old Higganum man was arrested at 9:51 p.m. and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple-lane highway. A 911 call to Troop F by a concerned citizen about erratic operation of a motor vehicle resulted in this arrest.

Sunday, June 28

• A 57 year-old man of Warsaw Street was arrested at 9:26 p.m. and charged with assault in the third degree and disorderly conduct after troopers responded to a report of an active domestic dispute at a Woodland Road residence.

Wednesday, March 4 to Thursday, March 12

• A minor motor vehicle crash was investigated on the Chester-Hadlyme automobile ferry at 3:28 p.m. A 53 year-old Farmington woman was operating a 2015 Toyota Sienna LE when she entered the left parking lane of the Chester-Hadlyme Ferry and struck a stool that was left in the lane. The staff claimed no damage to the ferry. The only damage reported was a dent to the Toyota.

Friday, May 15

• A 41 year-old woman of Hillcrest Drive in Old Saybrook was arrested on a warrant by Troop F troopers charging her with criminal trespass in the first degree, disorderly conduct, and interfering with an emergency call following the report of a disturbance on Bokum Road in Chester.

Saturday, May 16 to Wednesday, June 17

No arrests were made.

Thursday, June 18

• A 23 year-old man of Castleview Drive was arrested at 11:04 a.m. and charged with violation of a protective order and violation of conditions of release in the first degree. He was processed and held on a $250,000 surety bond he could not post and was presented in court on the following day. He was taken into custody at Bradley International Airport. He is accused of tampering with a court-ordered GPS monitor, which set off a tamper alarm.

Friday, June 19 to Wednesday, July 15

Thursday, July 16

• A 20 year-old man of Goose Hill Road was arrested at 10:15 a.m. and charged with criminal mischief in the second degree, breach of peace in the second degree, and reckless endangerment of the second degree. He is charged with getting into an altercation at his residence in Chester with his girlfriend, where police say he ended up maliciously damaging her vehicle. He was placed under arrest without incident and was compliant with police.

• A 27 year-old man of Turkey Hill Road was arrested at 10:41 p.m. and charged with two counts of violation of a protective order. He was processed on a combined $50,000 bond amount.

Friday, July 17 to Thursday, July 23

No arrests were made.

Friday, July 24

• A 20 year-old man of Goose Hill Road was arrested at 10:37 a.m. and charged with violation of a protective order. He was found to be a passenger of the protected person during a traffic stop that took place on Route 9 in Chester. He was processed and released after posting a $15,000 surety bond. The driver (the protected party) was a 19 year-old woman.
