He was operating a 2007 BMW 335i westbound of Route 80 near Chatfield Hollow State Park when he swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway and struck a metal-beam guardrail on the left side of the roadway. The vehicle was towed.

• A 38 year-old Guilford man was issued a misdemeanor summons at 6:56 a.m. for evading responsibility in the operation of motor vehicle (fleeing the scene of an accident in which there was property damage or bodily injury) and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple-lane highway. He was operating a 2014 Honda Civic EX westbound on Bethke Road near Pond Meadow Road when he drifted off the roadway, went down an embankment, and struck a tree. The operator left the scene and was later located by police. Minor injuries were reported.

• A two-vehicle crash was investigated on Route 9 southbound at 12:44 p.m. A 36 year-old man of Roast Meat Hill Road in Killingworth was operating a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 southbound on Route 9 when he was sideswiped by a green Mazda 6 (4-door sedan) with tinted windows bearing Connecticut registration plate AU62997. The operator of the Mazda fled the scene without stopping. The operator of the struck vehicle stated that he was not injured in the crash and refused medical attention. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Trooper Thomas Curtis at 860-399-2100. All calls will be kept confidential.

• A 26 year-old man of Durham Road in Madison was arrested at 1:46 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Troop F was dispatched to the intersection of routes 81 and 148 for the report of an unconscious driver in a vehicle. The operator, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, consented to and failed a standardized field sobriety test.

• A 39 year-old Middlebury man was issued a citation at 4:09 a.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple-lane highway following a one-vehicle crash. He was operating a 2015 Cadillac Escalade eastbound on Route 148 near Blur Hills Road when he left the roadway and struck a metal-beam guardrail and utility pole. No injuries were reported or observed. The vehicle required towing.

• A 40 year-old woman of Copse Road was arrested at 12:30 p.m. and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive right. She was operating a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited westbound on Fawn Hill Road near Cow Pen Hill Road when she swerved to avoid an animal, drove into the right shoulder, and struck a wire-rope guardrail. She stated that she was not injured and that she had been wearing her seat belt.

• A 34 year-old woman of Chittenden Road was issued a citation at 9:58 p.m. for failure to drive right. She was operating a 2011 Chevrolet K1500 Suburban westbound on Chittenden Road at Route 81 when she collided with a cable guide wire located on the north shoulder of the roadway. The operator, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported by ambulance to a local clinic for evaluation and treatment of possible injuries sustained in the crash.

• A burglary was investigated at JV Wine & Spirits located at 184 Route 81 at 3:10 a.m. Troopers responded to an active alarm and found that the front door to the business had been forced open and alcohol and cigarettes were taken. After reviewing video surveillance, police determined that two men entered the store. The same men are suspects in four other burglary cases that occurred in the nearby area. Anyone with information about the identity of these men is asked to call Trooper Christopher Centi at 860-399-2100. All calls will be held confidential.

• A 48 year-old Middlefield woman was issued a verbal warning at 10:45 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple-lane high. She was operating a 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited northbound on Route 81 when she claimed that a deer ran into the roadway, she swerved to avoid collision with the deer, and instead struck CL&P utility pole #1519. She was wearing her seat belt and refused medical attention at the scene.
