Essex
Wednesday, Aug. 14 to Monday, Aug. 19
No arrests were made.
Tuesday, Aug. 20
• A 24 year-old man of Comstock Avenue in the Ivoryton section of Essex was arrested at 4:59 p.m. and charged with breach of peace in the second degree, failure to keep a narcotic in its original container, and possession of greater than one-half ounce of cannabis. He was processed and held on a combined $6,500 surety bond he could not post. Police were dispatched to the area of Comstock Avenue on the report of a male driving up and down the street yelling profanities at people walking. During the investigation troopers discovered that the accused had concealed narcotics inside his inner pants.

• A motor vehicle crash was investigated at the intersection of Mares Hill Road and Walnut Street at 8:20 p.m. A 57 year-old man of Plains Road was operating a 2003 BMW 525i northbound on Mares Hill Road and failed to come to a complete stop at the stop sign at Walnut Street. He struck a utility pole and then crashed through a road gate belonging to the property owner of 90 Walnut Street. The operator and any possible passengers of the BMW fled the scene on foot. The vehicle was towed from the scene. Anyone with information about this incident in asked to call Trooper Derek Mauriello at 860-299-2100. All calls will be kept confidential.

Tuesday, Aug. 27
• A 55 year-old man of Highland Terrace in Ivoryton was arrested at 11:33 a.m. and charged with disorderly conduct and assault in the third degree. He was processed on a $10,000 surety bond. The alleged victim of the assault was a 52 year-old.
Wednesday, Aug. 28 to Saturday, Aug. 31

Sunday, Sept. 1
• A 45 year-old East Lyme woman was arrested at 11:32 a.m. and charged with two counts of making an illegal payment on a credit card, one count of charging over $500 on a stolen credit card, one count of charging less than $500 on a stolen credit card, and theft of a credit card. She was process on a $5,000 surety bond. The alleged victim in the case was a 71 year-old man of Blake Street in Ivoryton.

• A 21 year-old man of Main Street was issued a warning at 12:20 p.m. for failure to grant right of way following a two-vehicle crash. He was operating a 2009 Mercedes-Benz E3504m AWD northbound on West Avenue when he attempted to make a left turn onto the Route 9 exit 3 on-ramp and entered the oncoming path of a 2004 Toyota Corolla operated by an 83 year-old Centerbrook woman. No one was injured in the crash. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Thursday, Sept. 5
• A 40 year-old Deep River man was arrested at 6:32 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct and assault in the third degree for an incident that occurred on Aug. 31. The alleged victim in the case was a 49 year-old.

• A 46 year-old Middletown man was arrested on a warrant at 7:13 p.m. charging him with evading responsibility in the operation of a motor vehicle (fleeing the scene of an accident in which there was property damage or bodily injury). The motor vehicle crash occurred in Essex on May 27, 2019.

• A 69 year-old Niantic man was issued a citation at 11:44 a.m. for failure to grant right of way after the 2015 GMC Canyon he was operating collided with a 2008 Honda Odyssey EX operated by a 50 year-old Berlin woman. No injuries were reported.
Friday, Sept. 27 to Saturday, Sept. 28

• A one-vehicle crash was investigated on Route 9 at 2:56 p.m. A 67 year-old Old Saybrook woman was operating a 2003 Mercedes-Benz C230k southbound on Route 9 near exit 3 when she fell asleep at the wheel and drifted across the left should and struck a guardrail. The vehicle sustained minor damage and was towed from the scene by Mal’s Towing. She was transported by Essex Ambulance to the Shoreline Clinic in Westbrook for treatment and evaluation of minor injuries sustained in the crash. No enforcement action was indicated in the police press report.

• A 17 year-old boy of Laurel Wood Drive was issued a citation at 7:45 p.m. for failure to obey a stop sign. He was operating a 2004 Toyota Camry northbound on Hemlock Terrace when he failed to come to a complete stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Hemlock Drive and collided with a 2016 Ford Escape operated by a 26 year-old woman of Scenic View Drive. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. No injuries were observed or reported at the scene.

Friday, Aug. 23
• A 25 year-old man of Main Street was arrested at 4:21 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct, violation of a protective order, assault in the third degree on a person aged 60 or older or who is pregnant or handicapped, strangulation in the second degree, and unlawful restraint in the first degree. He was processed on a $5,000 surety bond.
• A 22 year-old Meriden man was issued a citation at 6:30 p.m. for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle after he ran off the roadway, struck an embankment, and rolled over. Two male passengers, both of Middletown, were onboard.

• A motor vehicle crash was investigated on Kirtland Street at 4:32 p.m. A 59 year-old woman of Read Street was operating a 2001 Subaru Forester on Kirtland Street when she drove off the roadway and struck a tree. The operator may have blacked out. She was transported to the clinic in Westbrook for observation. No enforcement action was taken against the driver. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

• A two-vehicle crash was investigated at the intersection of Winthrop Road and Route 80. A 31 year-old Clinton man was operating a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck when he failed to stop at the intersection and struck a 2011 Chevrolet Impala operated by a 31 year-old Killingworth woman. The Clinton man then evaded (fled) the scene, but not before the operator of the struck vehicle recorded the evading vehicle’s license plate.

• A two-vehicle crash was investigated on Route 80 at the Route 9 exit 5 northbound ramp. A 77 year-old Ivoryton man was operating a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse eastbound on Route 80 when he turned left in front of a 2012 Honda Civic EX operated by a 29 year-old woman of Elm Street, causing a collision. A one year-old female infant was a passenger onboard the Honda. No one was injured in the crash and both vehicles were driven from the scene. No enforcement action was noted in the police press report.

• A 39 year-old Meriden man was issued a citation at 11:10 a.m. for failure drive right. He was operating a 2006 Mercedes-Benz C280 when he lost control of the vehicle, exited the roadway, and struck a guardrail. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was not injured in the crash.

• A 31 year-old Clinton man was issued a misdemeanor summons at 7:38 a.m. for evading responsibility in the operation of a motor vehicle (fleeing the scene of an accident in which there was property damage or bodily injury). He was operating a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck when he struck the rear of a 2011 Chevrolet Impala operated by a 32 year-old Killingworth woman. The at fault drive fled the scene after the crash, but not before the operator of the struck vehicle obtained his license plate. He was located by troopers and charged. No one was injured in the crash.

Tuesday, Oct. 1
• A 14 year-old Deep River boy was arrested at 8:21 p.m. and charged with threatening in the first degree and breach of peace in the second degree. A complaint about a 14 year-old boy involved in a threatening incident was investigated between three locations in Deep River: 246 Main Street, Devitt Field on Southworth Street, and 12 River Street.

Saturday, Aug. 17
• A 58 year-old Waterbury man was arrested at 4:35 p.m. and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension following a motor vehicle stop in Chester. He was processed on a $2,500 non-surety bond.
Sunday, Aug. 18 to Monday, Aug. 19

• A 34 year-old New London man was issued a citation at 12:49 p.m. for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. He was operating a 2005 Volvo S60 2.5t AWD when he struck the rear of a 2014 Toyota Rav4 LE operated by a 34 year-old Middlefield woman who had slowed for traffic ahead. No drivers or passengers were hurt in the crash. Both vehicles were driven from the scene.

• A 16 year-old Middletown boy was issued a citation at 1:13 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of multiple-lane highway and speeding. He was operating a 2007 Honda Accord LX when he exited the travel lane, broke through a wire-rope guardrail, and struck shrubs. No injuries were reported at the scene.

• A 26 year-old Clinton man was issued a citation at 4:30 a.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple-lane highway and operating an unregistered motor vehicle following a motor vehicle crash on in which the operator stated he swerved to avoid hitting a deer. He lost control of the vehicle and struck a wire-rope guardrail. Minor injuries were reported.
Monday, Sept. 9 to Wednesday, Sept. 18

Thursday, Sept. 19
• A 33 year-old Old Lyme man was arrested at 4:52 p.m. and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and two counts of possession of narcotics. Troopers responded to a call about a vehicle stopped at the intersection of Hoop Pole Hill Road and West Main Street. A male was slumped over the steering wheel. He was initially unresponsive. Once awake he consented to and failed a standardized field sobriety test.
Friday, Sept. 20 to Tuesday, Oct. 1
