Police Incident Report for March 13 to April 4


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Deep River

Wednesday, March 13 to Thursday, March 14

Friday, March 15

No arrests were made.

• A 59 year-old Old Saybrook man was issued a citation at 6:45 a.m. for passing on the right. He was operating a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck when he attempted to pass a 2006 Toyota Highlander Limited operated by a 57 year-old Old Lyme man. The Chevrolet struck the front bumper of the Toyota. No one was injured in the crash.

Saturday, March 16 to Tuesday, March 19

No arrests were made.

Wednesday, March 20

No arrests were made.

• A 66 year-old woman of Union Street was issued a citation at 3:51 p.m. for making an unsafe movement from a stopped or standing position. She was operating a 2003 Hyundai Sonata at a red light at the intersection of Union Street and Main Street when she moved forward and struck the rear of a 2017 Subaru Crosstrek Premium operated by a 34 year-old Tolland man. No one was injured in the crash.

Thursday, March 21 to Friday, March 29

No arrests were made.

Saturday, March 30

No arrests were made.

• An 18 year-old Cheshire man was issued a written warning at 1:14 p.m. for failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart. He was operating a 2007 Honda CR-V northbound on Route 145 near Route 80 when he struck the rear of a 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara operated by a 64 year-old Chester woman who had slowed for a vehicle that was parked on the shoulder for a dog that was running around the area. No one was injured in the crash.

Essex

Wednesday, March 13 to Friday, March 15

Saturday, March 16

• A single-vehicle crash was investigated in the parking lot of Abby’s Place Restaurant. A 65 year-old Chester woman was operating a 2014 Toyota Rav4 northbound in the parking lot, made a right turn into a designated parking stall directly in front of the restaurant, and accelerated over the pedestrian walking ramp and struck the building. No one was injured in the crash. The crash took place on private property; no enforcement action was taken.

• A 53 year-old woman of Main Street in Ivoryton was issued a citation at 12:20 p.m. for failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart. She was operating a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina eastbound on Main Street when she became distracted by her dog, which was in the back seat, and did not realize the vehicle in front of her had stopped. She struck the rear of a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta operated by a 58 year-old woman of Falls River Circle in Ivoryton. No one was injured in the crash.

• A 17 year-old girl of Eagle Ridge Drive was issued a written warning at 6:44 p.m. for making an improper turn. She was operating a 2010 Honda CR-V northbound on Route 153, made a left turn at the intersection of Westbrook Road, and struck a 2011 Ford F150 pick-up truck operated by a 47 year-old Westbrook man. No injuries were reported.

Friday, March 29

Saturday, March 30

• A 58 year-old Bristol man was arrested at 12:57 p.m. and charged with larceny in the fourth degree, larceny in the fifth degree, and forgery in the first degree. He was processed on separate $35,000 and $40,000 surety bonds. He was wanted for cashing counterfeit U.S. Savings Bonds at Essex Savings Bank located at 35 Plains Road in Essex and Essex Savings Bank located at 203 Middlesex Avenue in Chester. He was also wanted on warrants for similar activities in other towns.

Sunday, March 31

• A 20 year-old New Haven man was arrested at 6:30 p.m. and charged with robbery in the first degree and conspiracy to commit robbery in the first degree. He was processed on a $100,000 surety bond.

Monday, April 1 to Thursday, April 4

No arrests were made.

Chester

Wednesday, March 13 to Friday, March 15

• A 28 year-old Old Lyme man was issued a citation at 4:07 p.m. for making an improper turn. She was operating a 2018 Ford Transit Connect vehicle on North Main Street while attempt to make a K-turn in the roadway and struck a 2013 Ford F150 pickup truck operated by a 54 year-old man of Kings Highway who was traveling southbound on North Main Street. No one was injured in the crash.

• A 29 year-old Shelton man was issued a citation at 2:49 a.m. for failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart and failure to carry insurance card. He was operating a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo when he struck the rear of a 1995 Dodge Ram operated by a 51 year-old man of Brookfield, Massachusetts. No one was injured in the crash.

• A 34 year-old Middletown man was issued a citation at 10:48 p.m. for unsafe backing. He was operating a 2009 Infinity M35 Sedan out of a parking spot on Main Street when he struck a parked 2017 Ford F350 Superduty pick-up truck. No one was injured in the crash.
