Police Incident Report for Sept. 19 to Oct. 9


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, Sept. 19 to Saturday, Sept. 22

No arrests were made.

Sunday, Sept. 23

• A 58 year-old woman of Sunset Terrace was arrested at 4:31 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple-lane highway.

• A 39 year-old Farmington man was issued a citation at 11:09 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. He was operating a 2007 Nissan 350Z when he lost control of the vehicle after attempting a avoid hitting a box in the road and ran off the roadway into a group of trees. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. The operator was transported to Old Saybrook EMS to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic in Westbrook for evaluation and treatment of suspected minor injuries sustained in the crash.

Monday, Sept. 24 to Thursday, Sept. 27

Friday, Sept. 28

No arrests were made.

• A 42 year-old Norwich man was issued a warning at 12:20 p.m. for failure to grant right of way. He was operating a 2005 Volkswagen New Jetta 2.5 southbound on Deep River Road near Sheagren Hill when he made a left U-turn into the oncoming path of a 2002 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer model operated by a 39 year-old Waterford man. The Waterford man could not stop in time to avoid collision. No one was injured in the crash. The Volkswagen was towed from the scene due to disabling damage.

Saturday, Sept. 29

Sunday, Sept. 30

No arrests were made.

• A 35 year-old man of Homosassa, Florida was issued a citation at 2:43 p.m. for failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart. He was operating a 2016 Chrysler when he struck the rear of a 2013 Toyota Corolla operated by a 66 year-old woman of Adamsville, Rhode Island. There were no injuries and both vehicles were driven from the scene.

Monday, Oct. 1

No arrests were made.

Tuesday, Oct. 2

No arrests were made.

• A 54 year-old Hartford man was issued a citation at 1:57 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. He was operating a 2007 Nissan Altima when he traveled off the roadway and struck a wire rope guard rail. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was not injured in the crash.

Wednesday, Oct. 3

No arrests were made.

• A 40 year-old Plainville man was issued a citation at 2:51 a.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple-lane highway. He was operating a 2014 Chrysler 200 Touring when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a wire-rope guardrail. No one was injured in the crash.

• A 76 year-old Middletown woman was issued a citation at 2:54 p.m. for failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart. She was operating a 2002 Subaru Forester eastbound on Main Street when he struck the rear of a 2014 BMW 328xi operated by a 19 year-old man of Curiosity Lane who had slowed to turn into the Shell gas station property. No one was injured in the crash.

Wednesday, Sept. 19

Thursday, Sept. 20

• A 26 year-old man of Rattling Valley Road was arrested at 7:09 a.m. and charged with assault in the third degree.

• A 36 year-old woman of Main Street and a 16 year-old were arrested at 1:40 p.m. Each party was charged with disorderly conduct under the domestic violence act.

Friday, Sept. 21 to Monday, Sept. 24

No arrests were made.

Tuesday, Sept. 25

No arrests were made.

• A 16 year-old girl of Shailer Pond Road was operating a 2004 Volvo S60 out of a driveway at #74 when she struck a chipper trailer that was being towed by a 2012 Bandit operated by a 43 year-old man of Hempstead, New York. The Volvo had to be towed. No one was injured in the crash. No enforcement action against the girl was indicated in the police report.

Wednesday, Sept. 26 to Tuesday, Oct. 2

Wednesday, Oct. 3

No arrests were made.

• A 24 year-old man of Main Street was issued a misdemeanor summons at 8:45 p.m. for evading responsibility in the operation of a motor (fleeing the scene of an accident), operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license, failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway, and operating a motor vehicle while using a hand-held cell phone. He was driving northbound on Route 154 when he attempted to answer his cell phone, drifted left out of the travel lane, and stuck a business sign. No one was injured in the crash.

Wednesday, Sept. 19 to Friday, Sept. 28

• A motor vehicle crash in which a driver evaded (fled) the scene was investigated on Kirtland Terrace near Route 154 at 4:16 p.m. Between noon and 2:15 p.m. a 2014 Lexus ES 350 was struck while parked in a parking lot. The evading vehicle was white or gray, as determined by the color of the paint scrape on the Lexus.

Sunday, Sept. 30 to Thursday, Oct. 4

Friday, Oct. 5

No arrests were made.

• A 17 year-old Middlefield boy was issued a citation at 1:25 p.m. for failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart. He was operating a 2006 Toyota Corolla northbound on Main Street at Route 154 when he struck the rear of a 2006 Toyota Rav4 operated by a 63 year-old Guilford man. No one was injured in the crash.

• A 30 year-old man of Laurel Street was issued a citation at 8:03 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. He was operating a 2015 Hyundai Sonata SE eastbound on Route 148 (Main Street) near Pelton Hill Road when he failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the double yellow line, and struck the rear driver’s side door of a 2019 Ford F450 Super Duty pick-up truck operated by a 24 year-old Centerbrook man. No one was injured in the crash.
