Police Incident Report for Aug. 1 to 7


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, Aug. 1

No arrests were made.

• A 27 year-old Middletown man was issued a written warning at 8:31 a.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway after the 2014 Kia Cadenza Premium he was operating struck a wire-rope guardrail. No injuries were reported.

Thursday, Aug. 2 to Sunday, Aug. 5

No arrests were made.

Monday, Aug. 6

No arrests were made.

• A 75 year-old Chester woman was issued a citation at 3:27 p.m. for failure to grant right of way at an intersection. She was operating a 2018 Honda Civic from the Route 9 southbound exit 3 ramp onto Main Street after stopping at the stop sign, and collided with a 2012 Lexus operated by a 69 year-old woman of Lynn Road in Ivoryton. The cited woman thought it was clear to proceed through the stop sign. No injuries were reported by the occupants of the vehicles or observed by the investigating trooper.

Deep River

Wednesday, Aug. 1 to Sunday, Aug. 5

No arrests were made.

Monday, Aug. 6

No arrests were made.

• A 75 year-old woman of Bushy Hill Road was issued a citation at 1:03 p.m. for failure to obey a control signal. She was operating a 2003 Nissan Altima through the intersection of Route 80 and Westbrook Road when she collided with a 1996 Jeep Cherokee operated by a 46 year-old Old Lyme woman, which caused a subsequent collision with a third vehicle. The third vehicle was a 2018 Jeep Wrangler Limited operated by a 49 year-old Old Lyme man. All three operators received minor injuries and were transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic in Westbrook for evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, Aug. 7

• A 27 year-old Chester woman was arrested at 8:49 p.m. on a warrant charging her with larceny in the sixth degree and theft of a credit card. The alleged victim of the theft was a 27 year-old woman of Village Street in Deep River.

Wednesday, Aug. 1

Thursday, Aug. 2

No arrests were made.

• A 28 year-old New Britain man was issued a citation at 7:53 p.m. for failure to obey a stop sign. He was operating a 2001 Volkswagen GTI GLX from the Route 9 northbound exit 6 off-ramp when he drove past the stop sign without stopping, crossed Route 148, and struck a sign in the yard of private property located on the opposite side of the road. The driver and his 29 year-old male passenger of Waterbury fled the scene on foot, but were later located and the driver charged.

Friday, Aug. 3 to Tuesday, Aug. 7
