Police Incident Report for May 23 to June 12


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, May 23 to Wednesday, May 30

No arrests were made.

Thursday, May 31

No arrests were made.

• A 20 year-old man of River Road in Essex was issued a citation at 7:39 p.m. for failure to drive right. He was operating a 2006 Ford F550 Super Duty truck northbound on Pond Meadow Road in Westbrook when he attempted to make a left turn onto Cross Road and struck a 2009 Hyundai Elantra operated by a 63 year-old man of Blake Street in the Ivoryton section of Essex. No injuries were reported or observed.

Friday, June 1 to Sunday, June 3

No arrests were made.

Monday, June 4

• A 37 year-old woman of Mares Hill Road was arrested at 2:21 a.m. on a warrant charging her with assault on a public safety officer. She was processed and released after posting a $5,000 surety bond. The alleged victim of the assault was a 26 year-old East Haddam man.

• A 49 year-old man of Cranston, Rhode Island was issued a citation at 4:50 a.m. for traveling too fast for conditions. He lost control of the vehicle he was operating and struck a wire-rope guardrail.

Wednesday, June 6

• A 27 year-old Enfield man was issued a citation at 2:09 p.m. for failure to grant right of way at a private driveway. He was operating a 2015 International 43000 tractor trailer from Westbrook Road into a private business driveway when he struck a 2008 Dodge Sprinter 2500 operated by a 53 year-old New Haven man. No injuries were reported or observed at the scene.

Thursday, June 7

• A 45 year-old woman of Spencer Plains Road was arrested at 3:27 p.m. and charged with violation of probation and operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension following a motor vehicle crash. She was also issued a citation for failure to grant right of way at an intersection. She was operating a 2018 Honda Civic LX from Route 153 southbound onto Ingham Hill Road when she collided with the front end of a 2017 Ford Explorer Sport operated by a 50 year-old woman of Ingham Hill Road. No injuries were reported, and all parties involved refused medical attention at the scene.

• The theft of a motor vehicle was investigated at 11 Prospect Street at 7 a.m. During the overnight hours a black 2013 Audi bearing California license plate 6Y2P830 and VIN WAUAFAFLXDN022300 was stolen from the residence. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Trooper Christopher Francis at 860-399-2100. All calls will be kept confidential.

• Troopers responded to a complaint about found narcotics below the 100 block of Bokum Road. Troopers seized a small amount of suspected methamphetamine and various items of drug paraphernalia. The case was still active at press time pending further investigation.

• An 88 year-old woman of Warsaw Street was issued a warning at 9:35 a.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. She was operating a 2017 Toyota Corolla when she struck a wire rope guardrail while negotiating a turn.

Sunday, June 3 to Wednesday, June 6

No arrests were made.

• A 28 year-old Pawcatuck woman was issued a misdemeanor summons at 9:05 a.m. for operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension and speeding.

Thursday, June 7

• A 58 year-old man of Essex Road was issued a citation at 2:36 p.m. for making an improper left turn. He was operating a 2017 Harley-Davidson southbound on Inspiration Lane when he accelerated into a left turn onto Route 148 and collided with a metal-beam guardrail. The operator was ejected from the bike and sustained minor injuries. He was transported to Middlesex Hospital.

Deep River

Wednesday, May 23

• A 54 year-old Ivoryton man was issued a citation at 3:18 p.m. for unsafe passing. He was operating a 2008 Toyota Highlander westbound on Route 80 when he attempted to pass a 2017 Subaru Crossfire operated by an unidentified operator who had pulled to the side of the road. The Ivoryton man admitted to stepping on the brakes suddenly, tailgating the Subaru, and honking the horn since he felt the Subaru operator was going too slow. The right front of Toyota struck the left rear side of the Subaru. No injuries were reported or observed and both vehicles were driven from the scene.

Wednesday, May 30

• A 25 year-old man of Rattling Valley Road was arrested at 9:16 p.m. on a warrant charging him with failure to appear in the second degree.

Thursday, May 31

Friday, June 1

• A two-vehicle crash was investigated at the intersection of Elm and Union Streets at 1:59 p.m. A 66 year-old man of Kirtland Street was operating a 2017 Toyota Highlander and a 37 year-old New London man was operating a 2005 Mercedes Benz when they collided. Fault could not be determined at the scene and there were no witnesses to the crash. No enforcement action was taken against either driver.

• A 25 year-old woman of Main Street was issued a misdemeanor summons at 9:36 a.m. for evading responsibility in the operation of a motor vehicle (fleeing the scene of an accident) and failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart. She was operating a 2017 Ford on Stevenstown Road (Route 145) when she struck the rear of a 2012 Toyota RAV4 operated by a 71 year-old Westbrook woman. The fleeing driver was chased down by the struck driver prior to police arrival. No injuries were reported or observed.

Tuesday, June 5 to Friday, June 8

Saturday, June 9

• A 46 year-old Middletown man was arrested at 2:08 a.m. and charged with discharge of a firearm, breach of peace in the second degree, threatening in the first degree, and reckless endangerment in the first degree. He was processed on a $25,000 surety bond. Police responded to 207 Winthrop Road in Deep River (Pioneer Village Camp) for a report of a male who discharged a firearm several times. Police determined that the accused fired a handgun two times in the air on the camp grounds.

• A burglary of a motor vehicle was investigated at 23 Rosemont Drive at 7:44 a.m. During the overnight hours several credit cards were stolen from a white 2004 Chevy Malibu bearing a Connecticut license plate. One of the cards taken was an L.L. Bean card that was used twice at an Exxon gas station in New Haven at 4 a.m. Anyone with information about this theft is asked to call Trooper Christopher Francis at 860-399-2100. All calls will be kept confidential.
