Wednesday, May 23

• A 66 year-old man of Paper Mill Road was arrested at 11:12 a.m. on a warrant charging him with cruelty to animals, possession of a vicious/barking dog, and permitting a dog to roam at large. The warrant was issued following an investigation by the Killingworth Animal Control officer for an incident that occurred at 10 Paper Mill Road on May 17. A complainant reported that an Airedale breed of dog belonging to the accused was running loose in his/her house. The complaint stated that the dog must have entered the house because the door was left ajar. When the animal control officer arrived, she noted that black substance resembling motor oil was on the dog’s right cheek and right shoulder. The dog was checked by a veterinarian who confirmed that the dog had an oily substance on its coat. The vet recommended that he control officer wash the dog with dishwashing liquid to remove the substance. When the officer removed the dog’s two collars, she noted that one was a shock collar, the others displayed the name and phone numbers of the accused, and both collars were tied too tight. Scabs and sores were on the dog’s neck under where the collars were sitting. Police noted that the accused had been arrest on two previous occasions for cruelty to animals due to very poor conditions of outdoor kennels on his property. Police noted that at least eight complaints were on file since January 2018 against the accused. The arrest warrant was applied for under probable cause. The accused was processed on a $30,000 surety bond.
