Police Incident Report for May 9 to 22


The North Haven Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in town. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Wednesday, May 9

• A 61 year-old man of Clintonville Road was arrested at 10:17 p.m. and charged with breach of peace in the second degree and assault in the third degree.

• A 46 year-old Meriden woman was arrested at 11:49 p.m. and charged with larceny in the third degree.

Thursday, May 10

No arrests were made.

Friday, May 11

• A 65 year-old man of Scrub Oak Road was arrested at 1:30 a.m. and charged with assault in the first degree with intent to cause serious injury or death. Following a domestic dispute he allegedly accelerated his vehicle in reverse down the driveway, struck his wife, and dragged her before stopping. He claimed he ran over his wife by accident, and was processed and released after posting a $50,000 surety bond. Prosecuting authorities later upgraded the assault charge to manslaughter in the second degree when it was determined the incident was not accidental and bond was set at $750,000.

• A 33 year-old West Haven man was issued a misdemeanor summons at 6:02 p.m. for operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension and failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart.

Saturday, May 12

• A 25 year-old New Haven man was arrested at 12:24 a.m. and charged with burglary in the third degree, criminal mischief in the second degree, disorderly conduct, assault in the third degree, and threatening in the second degree.

Sunday, May 13

No arrests were made.

Monday, May 14

• A 29 year-old man of Bittersweet Drive was arrested at 4:15 p.m. and charged with criminal trespass in the second degree and larceny in the sixth degree.

Tuesday, May 15

• A 41 year-old man and a 30 year-old woman of the same Quinnipiac Avenue residence were arrested at 9 a.m. and charged with disorderly conduct.

Wednesday, May 16

• A 45 year-old man of Pool Road was arrested at 5 p.m. and charged with larceny in the sixth degree, fraudulent use of an automatic teller machine, using a motor vehicle without permission, and two counts of violation of probation.

Thursday, May 17

No arrests were made.

Friday, May 18

• An 18 year-old New Haven man was arrested at 5:16 p.m. and charged with larceny in the sixth degree and failure to pay or plead a citation.

• A 28 year-old Hamden man was issued a misdemeanor summons at 2:24 a.m. for operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, traveling unreasonably fast, and unsafe passing on the left side.

• A 35 year-old East Haven man was issued a misdemeanor summons at 4:05 p.m. for operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway.

Saturday, May 19

No arrests were made.

Sunday, May 20

• A 29 year-old Wallingford man was arrested at 9:45 p.m. and charged with criminal mischief in the second degree and breach of peace in the first degree.

• A 23 year-old New Haven man was issued a misdemeanor summons at 3:43 p.m. for operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension.

Monday, May 21

• A 50 year-old West Haven man was arrested at 4:02 p.m. on warrants charging him with two counts of failure to appear in the second degree, operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension, and failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart.

Tuesday, May 22

No arrests were made.

From May 9 to 22 North Haven police issued six citations to motorists for failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart; five citations for failure to grant right of way; and three citations for failure to obey a control signal, for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway, for failure to wear a seat belt in the front seat, and for operating a motor vehicle without carrying a driver’s license or registration. Two motorists were cited for traveling unreasonably fast. One citation was issued for each of the following: using a hand-held cell phone while driving, making an unsafe movement from a stopped for standing position, failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway, distracted driving, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and unsafe passing.
