Police Incident Report for May 2 to 18


The Harbor News publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Clinton, Westbrook, and Old Saybrook. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Clinton

Wednesday, May 2

No arrests were made.

Thursday, May 3

• A 22 year-old Waterbury man was arrested and charged with possession of greater than one-half ounce of cannabis and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 54 Liberty Street at 12:09 p.m. A rock wall was damaged and garbage was left in a right of way.

Friday, May 4

• A 30 year-old man of West Main Street was arrested at 9 a.m. and charged with two counts of violation of probation.

• A 53 year-old man of Killingworth Turnpike was arrested at 5:16 p.m. and charged with two counts of disorderly conduct.

• A domestic dispute was investigated on Shore Road at 5:09 p.m.

Saturday, May 5

• A 77 year-old man of Old Orchard Road and charged with larceny in the sixth degree.

• A larceny was investigated at 156 East Main Street at 8:40 a.m.

• A larceny was investigated at 79 Waterside Lane at 9:58 a.m. Police determined that no crime occurred. A boat’s gas sensor was broken when the complainant purchased it, which caused the fuel to overflow at the gas dock.

• A larceny was investigated at 9 North High Street at 1:06 p.m.

Sunday, May 6

No arrests were made.

• Harassment (via texting) was investigated on Sunnybrook Lane at 10:22 a.m.

• A larceny was investigated at 266 East Main Street (ShopRite) at 10:27 a.m.

• A burglary was investigated at 9 North High Street at 2:43 p.m.

• A shoplifting incident was investigated at 20 Killingworth Turnpike at Calvin Klein and Aeropostale at 2:49 p.m.

Monday, May 7

• A 70 year-old woman of East Main Street was arrested at 5:35 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

• A 43 year-old man of Elmwood Way was arrested at 5:44 p.m. and charged with criminal trespass in the first degree, disorderly conduct, and criminal violation of a restraining order.

• A larceny was investigated at 43 Neck Road at 1:35 p.m. Granite landscaping stones were stolen.

• Sexual assault was investigated on the 100 block of East Main Street at 1:46 p.m.

• A shoplifting incident was investigated at 20 Killingworth Turnpike 4:23 p.m. Three women reportedly stole shirts, placing the items in two large orange Nike bags.

• A domestic dispute (involving an intoxicated male) was investigated on Brian Avenue at 8:14 p.m.

Tuesday, May 8

• A 30 year-old man of Port Washington, New York and a 25 year-old man of Queens, New York were arrested at 5:45 p.m. Each man was charged with organized retail theft in an amount less than $10,000, larceny in the fourth degree, larceny in the fifth degree, larceny in the sixth degree, two counts of larceny in the third degree, illegal possession of a shoplifting device, interfering with an officer/resisting arrest, assault on a public safety officer, and conspiracy to commit larceny. The parties shoplifted at 20 Killingworth Turnpike.

• A larceny was investigated at 266 East Main Street at noon. Three Old Lyme teenagers attempted to shoplift.

• Threatening was investigated on Nod Road at 6:15 p.m. The complainant received an email that stated that someone was hired to kill the complainant if he did not pay $3,000 within 48 hours. The complainant also received a phone call in which the caller stated that a hitman was coming to kill him unless he paid the $3,000. The threats were believed to be a hoax.

Wednesday, May 9

No arrests were made.

• Suspicious activity was reported at 7 Glenwood Road at 1:31 p.m. A man entered the Cold Stone Creamery store and asked the female clerk for money. He was described as short and older with a disheveled look. He claimed he needed $100 to get back to Hartford. She said she did not have any money and he left when other customers came into the store.

• A larceny involving the theft of checks was investigated at 67 Grove Street at 5:32 p.m.

Thursday, May 10

• A 28 year-old Beach Park Road was arrested at 4:30 p.m. and charged with possession of greater than one-half ounce of cannabis and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 59 Cedar Island Avenue at 1:26 p.m. The incident involved an ongoing problem between neighbors.

Friday, May 11

• A 39 year-old woman of Marine Avenue was arrested at noon and charged with possession of greater than one-half ounce of cannabis as use or possession of drug paraphernalia containing less than one-half ounce of cannabis. Occupation: unemployed.

Saturday, May 12

• A 48 year-old man of Nod Road was arrested at 2:30 p.m. and charged with burglary in the third degree, criminal mischief in the third degree, and larceny in the sixth degree.

• A 36 year-old man of Old Mill Road was arrested at 5:50 p.m. and charged with possession of greater than one-half ounce of cannabis, possession of intent to sell or dispense, failure to keep a narcotic in its original container, and illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle.

Sunday, May 13

No arrests were made.

Monday, May 14

• A 26 year-old New Haven woman was arrested at 11 p.m. on a warrant charging her with failure to appear in the second degree.

Tuesday, May 15

• A 23 year-old North Haven man was arrested at 11:14 a.m. and charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle to harass or intimidate, throwing objects at a motor vehicle, and creating a public disturbance.

• A 30 year-old Stonington woman was arrested at 3:45 p.m. and charged with criminal attempt to commit larceny in the sixth degree following an attempted shoplifting incident at 20 Killingworth Turnpike.

• A 19 year-old Higganum man was arrested at 2:03 p.m. and charged with criminal attempt to commit larceny in the sixth degree at 20 Killingworth Turnpike.

• A 30 year-old man of Sunnybrook Lane was arrested at 7:07 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct.

Wednesday, May 16

No arrests were made.

Thursday, May 17

• A 56 year-old man of Harbor Parkway was arrested at 7:30 a.m. on a warrant charging him with failure to pay or plead a citation.

Friday, May 18

No arrests were made.

• A burglary complaint was investigated at 9 Jamaica Road at 3:24 p.m. A complainant believed that two of his male employees were going to steal equipment from a storage shed. Police determined that nothing was taken and that the men made no attempt to commit a burglary. The complainant asked police to have the men escorted off his property.

• Harassment was investigated on the 200 block of East Main Street at 3:38 p.m.

Westbrook

Wednesday, May 2

• A 34 year-old Norwich man was arrested at 1:49 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway, and operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license following a motor vehicle stop for erratic operation of a motor vehicle locally.

• At 9:53 a.m. troopers assisted at 36 year-old white female with confirming via the Department of Children & Family Services that her 17 year-old son (of Boston Post Road) is/was allowed to change his residence without her permission.

Thursday, May 3

Friday, May 4

• A 53 year-old Essex man was arrested at 7:46 a.m. and charged with violation of home improvement contract regulations.

• An 18 year-old Durham man was arrested at 9:05 a.m. and charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell and use or possession of drug paraphernalia following an investigation into an advertisement of drugs and paraphernalia posted for sale on social media.

• A 57 year-old Middletown man was arrested at 9:43 p.m. on a warrant charging him with failure to pay or plead a citation following a motor vehicle stop for speeding. He was processed on a $75 cash bond.

• A two-vehicle crash was investigated on Boston Post Road just south of Route 153. A 40 year-old East Haven woman was operating a 2006 Ford F150 pick-up truck out of a commercial driveway and attempted to travel southbound on Boston Post Road. The F150 was struck by an on-coming 2004 Subaru Forester operated by a 59 year-old Waterford woman. No injuries were reported or observed and the case (pending charges) was still under investigation at press time.

Saturday, May 5

• A 20 year-old Niantic man was arrested at 11:27 a.m. on a warrant charging him with failure to appear in the second degree. He was arrested after the warrant was discovered during a traffic stop of a Hyundai Sante Fe that had expired registration.

• A 25 year-old New London man was arrested at 11:27 a.m. and charged with three counts of sale of narcotics following a traffic stop. During a consented search of vehicle troopers found an ounce of cannabis and a red balloon filled with suspected suboxone in a backpack belonging to the accused.

Monday, May 7

No arrests were made.

• A 48 year-old Old Lyme woman was issued a citation at 11:49 a.m. for failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart. She was operating a 2010 Honda CR-V when she collided with the rear a 2013 Toyota RAV4 operated by a 56 year-old Old Saybrook woman who had slowed for construction. No injuries were reported or observed.

Tuesday, May 8 to Wednesday, May 9

No arrests were made.

Thursday, May 10

• A 54 year-old woman of Essex Road was arrested at 3:29 p.m. and charged with larceny in the sixth degree following a shoplifting complaint at a Rite Aid Pharmacy in Old Lyme. She was observed via store surveillance cameras taking four items and leaving the store without paying. She was located at her Westbrook residence and taken into custody.

• An 18 year-old man of Mink Rock Circle was arrested at 8:57 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct under the Domestic Violence Act. He was processed on a $1,000 surety bond.

• A 59 year-old Durham man was arrested at 9:43 p.m. on a warrant charging him with risk of injury to a minor (against a 9 year-old), disorderly conduct, and assault in the third degree. He was processed on a $5,000 surety bond.

• The theft of a motor vehicle from a private residence was investigated at 7:24 a.m. on Boston Post Road. The vehicle was recovered in Derby. The case was still active a press time pending the arrest of the suspect in the case.

Friday, May 11

• A 54 year-old Old Saybrook man was arrested at 8:13 p.m. and charged with breach of peace in the second degree following a disturbance at the Highliner Café located at 139 Essex Road.

Saturday, May 12 to Sunday, May 13

No arrests were made.

Monday, May 14

• A 43 year-old Middlefield man was arrested at 10:18 a.m. and charged with disorderly conduct and threatening in the second degree.

Tuesday, May 15

• A 33 year-old Middlefield man was arrested at 10:24 a.m. and charged with forgery in the second degree.

Wednesday, May 16

No arrests were made.

Thursday, May 17

• A 20 year-old Middlefield man was arrested at 1:50 p.m. and charged with criminal mischief in the second degree, breach of peace in the second degree, violation of a standing criminal protective order, assault in the third degree, assault in the third degree on a person age 60 or older or who is pregnant or handicapped, and threatening in the second degree. The alleged victims were age 68 and 19.

Friday, May 18

• A 47 year-old Middlefield man was arrested at 2:56 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reckless driving, reckless endangerment in the first degree, interfering with an officer/resisting arrest, and operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension following a motor vehicle stop for erratic driving. Multiple empty “nip” bottles of alcohol beverage were found inside the vehicle.

• A 28 year-old Middlefield man was arrested at 3:03 p.m. and charged with criminal mischief in the third degree and disorderly conduct. Due to nature of self-threatening comments made by the accused he was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic in Westbrook for emergency committal.

• A hit and run accident was investigated on Pettipaug Road at 11:56 a.m. An unoccupied pick-up truck (owned by a 39 year-old man of Brainard Road) was struck by a gray Audi sedan that had Massachusetts license plates. The incident occurred in a Lee Company parking lot around 11:30 a.m. After backing into the truck, the operator of the Audi fled the scene. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call Trooper Gregory Hunter at 860-399-2100. All calls will be kept confidential.

Old Saybrook

Wednesday, May 2

• A 13 year-old was arrested at 10:40 a.m. and charged with disorderly conduct and threatening in the second degree. The juvenile was processed and released to parental custody.

Thursday, May 3

• A 20 year-old man of Maple Avenue was arrested at 2:14 a.m. and charged with possession of alcohol by a person under the legal age, possession of less than one-half ounce of cannabis, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia containing cannabis following an investigated on Elm Street.

Friday, May 4

• A 38 year-old man of unrecorded address was arrested at 9:565 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, traveling unreasonably fast, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, improper use of marker place, and simple trespass at 235 Middlesex Turnpike.

• A 22 year-old Mystic woman was arrested at 9:56 p.m. and charged with violation of a protective order under the Domestic Violence Act, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of less than one-half once of cannabis.

• A 22 year-old man of Linthicum Heights, Maryland was issued a citation at 11:32 p.m. for possession of less than one-half ounce of cannabis and use or possession of drug paraphernalia containing cannabis.

• A 23 year-old man of Riva, Maryland was issued a citation at 11:32 p.m. for possession of less than one-half ounce of cannabis and use or possession of drug paraphernalia containing cannabis.

• A 24 year-old woman of Gambrils, Maryland was issued a citation at 11:32 p.m. for possession of less than one-half ounce of cannabis and use or possession of drug paraphernalia containing cannabis.

• A 22 year-old woman of Ellicott City, Maryland was issued a citation at 11:32 p.m. for possession of less than one-half ounce of cannabis and use or possession of drug paraphernalia containing cannabis.

Saturday, May 5 to Sunday, May 6

Monday, May 7

• A 44 year-old Essex man was arrested at 1:10 p.m. and charged with threatening in the second degree on the strength of a warrant held by the Madison Police. He was also issued a citation for using a hand-held cell phone while driving.

Tuesday, May 8

• A 22 year-old Old Saybrook man was arrested at 9:17 p.m. on a warrant (for unspecified charges) held by Connecticut State Police at Troop K.

• A 23 year-old Old Saybrook man was issued a misdemeanor summons at 1:35 p.m. for operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and traveling unreasonably fast.

Wednesday, May 9

• A 31 year-old Deep River man was arrested at 12:35 a.m. and charged with possession of narcotics, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to keep a narcotic in its original container, and illegally obtaining a prescription drug.

• A 52 year-old man of Coco Beach, Florida was arrested at 5:14 p.m. and charged with larceny in the third degree and larceny by possession in the sixth degree.

Thursday, May 10

• An 18 year-old West Haven was arrested at 3:25 a.m. and charged with 19 counts of burglary in the third degree, 19 counts of conspiracy to commit burglary in the third degree, conspiracy to commit larceny in the third degree, conspiracy to commit larceny in the second degree, larceny in the sixth degree by spree, conspiracy to commit larceny in the sixth degree, interfering with an officer, and conspiracy to commit assault on peace officer. He was processed and held on a $100,000 surety bond that he could not post.

• A 52 year-old Old Saybrook man was arrested at 8:23 a.m. and turned over to the Department of Homeland Security on an active warrant held by their department.

• A 31 year-old New Haven woman was arrested at 10:45 a.m. and charged with larceny in the third degree and issuing a bad check on the strength of a warrant held by Old Saybrook police.

• A 27 year-old East Lyme woman was issued a citation at 1:15 p.m. for soliciting with a license on South View Terrace at South View Circle.

Friday, May 11

• A 25 year-old Clinton woman was arrested at 12:18 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and traveling unreasonably fast following a motor vehicle stop on Boston Post Road.

• A 61 year-old man of Schoolhouse Road was issued a citation at 2:03 p.m. for allowing a dog to roam on Schoolhouse Road.

Saturday, May 12

• A 42 year-old Clinton man was arrested at 12:24 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs following a motor vehicle stop on Mill Rock Road East.

No arrests were made.

Monday, May 14

• A 23 year-old Branford man was arrested at 11:19 a.m. and charged with possession of narcotics, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and using a hand-held cell phone while driving.

Tuesday, May 15

No arrests were made.

• A 39 year-old New Haven man was issued a misdemeanor summons at 2:35 a.m. for misuse of marker plate, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, traveling unreasonably fast, and operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license following a motor vehicle stop on Main Street at Sheffield Street.

• A 54 year-old Westbrook woman was issued a misdemeanor summons at 12:41 p.m. for operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension and operating an unregistered motor vehicle following a motor vehicle stop on Boston Post Road at Old Boston Post Road.

• A 51 year-old man of Barley Hill Road was issued a citation at 3:40 p.m. for allowing a dog to roam on Barley Hill Road.

Wednesday, May 16

• A 39 year-old homeless woman was arrested at 9:26 a.m. on a warrant charging her with failure to appear in the second degree.

Thursday, May 17

No arrests were made.

Friday, May 18

• A 44 year-old man of unrecorded address was arrested at 7:17 p.m. and charged with risk of injury to a minor, sexual assault in the second degree, possession of a controlled substance, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of cannabis, and illegally obtaining prescription drugs. He was held on a $250,000 surety bond he could not post.
