Police Incident Report for May 2 to 15


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, May 2

No arrests were made.

Thursday, May 3

No arrests were made.

• A 78 year-old Haddam man was issued a citation at 11:58 a.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. He was operating a 2008 Acura MDX Tech when he struck a wire-rope guardrail. No injuries were reported or observed.

Friday, May 4

• A 53 year-old man of Pond Meadow Road was arrested at 7:46 a.m. on a warrant charging him with violation of home improvement contract regulations (making home improvements without a current license).

Saturday, May 5 to Sunday, May 6

No arrests were made.

Monday, May 7

No arrests were made.

• A 24 year-old Deep River woman was issued a citation at 3:31 p.m. for making an unsafe lane change. She was operating a 2008 Honda Civic LX when she sideswiped by another vehicle that was not identified in the police press report. No injuries were reported or observed.

Tuesday, May 8

Wednesday, May 9

No arrests were made.

• An 18 year-old Westbrook man was issued a citation at 8:48 p.m. for failure to drive right. He was operating a 1995 Toyota Camry northbound on Westbrook Road near Woodland Drive when he veered right off the roadway and struck CL&P pole #198. The Toyota sustained heavy damage to the right side of the front bumper, hood, and right front fender. The pole was broken at the base. The operator was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic for evaluation due to airbag deployment.

Thursday, May 10 to Saturday, May 12

Sunday, May 13

No arrests were made.

• An 82 year-old man of a Post Office box address in Ivoryton was issued a citation at 4:05 p.m. for passing in a no-passing zone. He was operating a 2011 Chevrolet Colorado westbound on Main Street when he passed and struck a cyclist. The cyclist sustained injuries.

• A 43 year-old Old Saybrook man was issued a citation at 6:01 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. He was operating a 2012 Dodge Journey southbound of Bokum Road when he became distracted as he reached for a water bottle, drifted to the right, went of the road, and struck a utility pole. No injuries were reported or observed.

Wednesday, May 2 to Saturday, May 5

Sunday, May 6

• A 31 year-old Middletown man was arrested at 9:02 a.m. and charged with illegal possession of weapons in a motor vehicle, interfering with an officer/resisting arrest, speeding, and disobeying the signal of an officer.

Monday, May 7

No arrests were made.

• An 83 year-old woman of River Lane was issued a citation at 10:14 a.m. for failure to grant right of way at an intersection. She was operating a 2003 Nissan Maxima westbound on Rattling Valley Road and attempted to turn left onto Route 154 southbound when she collided with a 1995 Chevy Camaro operated by a 47 year-old New London man. The New London man was issued a misdemeanor summons for failure to appear in Middletown Superior Court on the strength of a warrant. He was also charged with improper use of registration, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Tuesday, May 8 to Thursday, May 10

Friday, May 11

No arrests were made.

• A 75 year-old Thomaston woman was issued a citation at 4:10 p.m. for failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart. She was operating a 2007 Toyota Corolla northbound on Route 145 when she struck the rear of a 2001 Volvo V70 AWD Cross Country operated by a 19 year-old West Hartford woman. No injuries were reported or observed.

• A 25 year-old New London man was issued a citation for failure to drive right. He was operating a 2007 Nissan Altima from Main Street onto Kirtland Street, crossed over the yellow line, and collided with the left rear door of a 2017 Toyota Sienna operated by a 47 year-old woman of River Street. Both vehicles sustained only minor damage; no injuries were reported or observed at the scene.

Chester

Wednesday, May 2

No arrests were made.

Thursday, May 3

• A 32 year-old Portland man was arrested at 12:08 p.m. and charged with possession of over one-half ounce of cannabis and use or possession of drug paraphernalia containing cannabis. He was processed and held on a $5,000 surety bond that he could not post.

Friday, May 4

• A 19 year-old Plantsville man was arrested at 6:02 p.m. and charged with criminal impersonation, operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension, and speeding.

Saturday, May 5 to Tuesday, May 15
