Police Incident Report for April 18 to May 1


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, April 18

Thursday, April 19

No arrests were made.

• A 54 year-old Niantic man was issued a summons at 3:08 p.m. for failure to secure a load. He was operating a 1996 Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck northbound on Route 154 when the truck struck a bump in the roadway while negotiating a curve. The bump caused a large metal object to fall from the cargo area onto the roadway. The metal slid into the southbound lane and directly into the path of a 2015 BMW 336xi operated by a 71 year-old woman of Foxboro Road. The metal bounded over the hood of the BMW and struck the windshield. The operator of the BMW was struck in the face and eyes with glass fragments. She was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic in Westbrook.

Friday, April 20

• A man of unrecorded age of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, was issued a citation at 5:57 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway, operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license, and failure to carry an updated insurance card. He was operating a 2001 GMC Jimmy when he had a seizure and lost control of the wheel, which veered off the roadway, struck a rock ledge, and rolled over. He was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Center in Westbrook for evaluation of possible injuries sustained in the crash.

Saturday, April 21 to Saturday, April 28

Sunday, April 29

• A 20 year-old New Britain man was arrested at 12:25 a.m. and charged with reckless driving, disobeying the signal of an officer, possession of greater than one-half ounce of cannabis, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

• A 33 year-old man of Grove Street was arrested at 7:34 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and making an unsafe movement from a stopped or standing position. He was operating a 2010 Audi A5 northbound on Main Street when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a fence bordering Hubbard Park.

Monday, April 30

No arrests were made.

• A 55 year-old Westbrook man was issued a citation at 3:41 p.m. for failure to drive right and texting while operating a motor vehicle following a motor vehicle accident. He was operating at 2005 Chevrolet Colorado westbound on Pratt Street near Ferry Street when he veered left and struck a parked and unoccupied 2004 GMC Sierra K2500. No injuries were reported or observed.

• A 53 year-old Old Lyme woman was issued a written warning at 4:34 p.m. for failure to obey a stop sign. She was operating a 2007 Toyota Yaris through a stop sign at the intersection of Gates and Saybrook roads when she collided with a 2009 GMC Sierra K1500 operated by a 59 year-old Old Saybrook man. No injuries were reported or observed.

Thursday, April 19

• A 79 year-old man of Kelsey Hill Road was arrested at 10:55 a.m. and charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor, sexual contact with a person age under the age of 16, sexual contact with a person under the age of 13, two counts of sexual assault in the fourth degree on a person between the ages of 2 and 13, and sale or delivery of alcohol beverage to persons under the legal age. He was processed and held in lieu of a $350,000 surety bond.

Friday, April 20 to Wednesday, April 25

Thursday, April 26

• A 28 year-old woman of Oakridge Drive was arrested at 9:19 a.m. on a warrant charging her with larceny in the fourth degree for a crime she committed in the prior year.

• A 46 year-old man of Rattling Valley Road was arrested at 3:50 p.m. and charged with criminal mischief in the third degree and breach of peace in the second degree. The alleged victim was an 88 year-old woman.

• A 22 year-old man of Village Street was arrested at 4:25 p.m. and charged with interfering with an officer/resisting arrest, breach of peace in the second degree, and failure to appear in the second degree on an outstanding warrant.

Friday, April 27 to Sunday, April 29

No arrests were made.

Monday, April 30

• An 18 year-old Old Lyme man was arrested at 10:55 a.m. and charged with harassment in the first degree and threatening in the second degree. He was wanted on information regarding a domestic dispute and was found to be a passenger at the scene of a motor vehicle crash that occurred on Kelsey Hill Road in Deep River. The alleged victim of the threats (a 17 year-old juvenile) reported that the accused was constantly trying to contact him/her after being asked not to and that the accused made death threats.

Chester

Wednesday, April 18

No arrests were made.

• A 29 year-old Portland man was issued a citation at 5:41 p.m. for failure to yield right of way while turning left. He was operating a 2005 Ford Focus westbound on Route 148 when he turned into the path of an unidentified vehicle. The unknown vehicle continued on and entered Route 9 northbound.

• A 25 year-old man of Railroad Avenue was issued a misdemeanor summons at 12:33 a.m. for evading responsibility in the operation of a motor vehicle (fleeing the scene of an accident), operating a commercial vehicle in violation of a left lane restriction, and operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license following a one-vehicle crash near 32 West Main Street.

Friday, April 27 to Tuesday, May 1
