Police Incident Report April 4 to 17


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, April 4 to Friday, April 6

Saturday, April 7

No arrests were made.

• An 87 year-old man of River Road was issued a citation at 10:56 a.m. for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. He was operating a 2000 Lexus RX300 northbound on Old Saybrook Road when he struck the rear of a stopped RAM car carrier tractor trailer operated by a 36 year-old man of Ormond Beach, Florida. The operator of the Lexus was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic in Westbrook after complaining of chest pains. The Lexus was towed due to heavy damage sustained in the collision.

Sunday, April 8 to Tuesday, April 10

Wednesday, April 11

• A 28 year-old Westbrook man was arrested at 11:12 a.m. and charged with disorderly conduct and strangulation in the second degree. He was processed on a $2,500 non-surety bond.

Thursday, April 12

No arrests were made.

• An 86 year-old man of Winthrop Hill Road in Ivoryton was issued a written warning at 3:23 p.m. for failure to drive right. He was operating a 2016 Hyundai Elantra westbound on Lynn Road when he veered left across the eastbound lane and struck a tree located off the eastbound shoulder.

Friday, April 13 to Tuesday, April 17

Deep River

Wednesday, April 4

• A 34 year-old man of Village Street was arrested at 8:03 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct and assault in the third degree. He was processed on a $2,500 surety bond.

Thursday, April 5 to Saturday, April 14

No arrests were made.

Sunday, April 15

• A 54 year-old Chester man was arrested at 2:40 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. The arresting officer observed the accused operating a Subaru Outback erratically, swerving over the double yellow line into the oncoming lane. The driver was stopped and agreed to a standardized field sobriety test, which he failed to perform to standards.

• A 55 year-old Madison man was issued a citation at 5:57 p.m. for failure to secure a load. He was operating a 2003 Ford Econoline when an unsecured object on the roof fell into the direct path of a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze Limited operated by a 47 year-old Haddam woman. No injuries were reported or observed.

Friday, April 6

No arrests were made.

• A 47 year-old Terryville man was issued a citation at 12:03 p.m. for traveling too fast for conditions. He was operating a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad when he lost control of the vehicle in snowy conditions and struck a wire-rope guardrail. No injuries were reported or observed.

• A 52 year-old Haddam woman was issued a citation at 12:47 p.m. for traveling too fast for conditions. She was operating a 2014 Honda Pilot when she lost control of the vehicle in snowy conditions and collided with a 2003 BMW 325 operated by a 54 year-old Middletown woman. No injuries were reported or observed.

• A 68 year-old Westbrook man was issued a warning at 1:19 p.m. for traveling too fast for conditions. He was operating a BMW (no year given) when he lost control of the vehicle in snowy conditions and struck a wire-rope guardrail located on the right shoulder. No injuries were reported or observed.

• A 33 year-old East Haddam man was issued a warning at 1:30 p.m. for traveling too fast for conditions. He was operating a 2011 Dodge Gran Crew Caravan when he lost control of the vehicle in slippery conditions and struck a 2017 Subaru Forester operated by a 48 year-old Old Saybrook woman who had a 45 year-old female passenger onboard. No injuries were reported or observed.

Thursday, April 12

• A 47 year-old Middletown man was arrested at 9:05 p.m. on a warrant charging him with evading responsibility in the operation of a motor vehicle (fleeing the scene of an accident) following an investigation into the event of a motor vehicle crash that occurred on West Main Street in Chester in July 2017.

Friday, April 13 to Saturday, April 14

• A 19 year-old Haddam man was issued a citation at 12:14 a.m. for failure to drive right. He was operating a 2002 Mitsubishi Diamente when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a sign and tree located off the right shoulder.
