Essex
Wednesday, Feb. 7 to Friday, Feb. 9

Saturday, Feb. 10
No arrests were made.
• Three drivers were each issued a citation at 6:14 a.m. for traveling too fast for conditions following a three-vehicle crash. The three drivers were: A 39 year-old Middletown man operating a 2008 Honda Accord, a 98 year-old woman of Miami Gardens, Florida, operating a 2001 Mazda Tribute, and a 57 year-old Higganum man operating a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado K1500. Minor injuries were reported at the scene, however all operators refused medical transport.
• A 70 year-old Deep River man was issued a verbal warning at 6:22 a.m. for traveling too fast for conditions. He was operating a 2013 Ford F150 pick-up truck when he struck the rear of a 2017 Ford Explorer that was parked on the side of the roadway due to an earlier crash. The Ford then struck rocks located off the roadway. No injuries were reported or observed. Neither vehicle required towing.

• An 18 year-old Westbrook man was issued a citation at 10:58 a.m. for traveling too fast for conditions. The operator told police that he was operating a 1983 Porsche 944 northbound on Deep River Road when his right front tire blew out and he lost control of the vehicle. The Porsche hit a curb on the right shoulder, which broke the tire and rim, and then struck a telephone pole. Careful examination of the crash scene revealed that the tire did not blow out prior to striking the curb, since there was clear evidence of a rolling tire (clear tread imprints) on the road prior to the front tire hitting the curb. Police determined that the front tire and rim broke apart when the vehicle struck the telephone pole, since there were chunks of metal rim stuck in the pole. There were no broken rim parts in the area where the vehicle drove over the curb. When this evidence was explained to the driver, he then stated that he wasn’t really sure what happened and that he just lost control of the vehicle.

• A 22 year-old man of Stanford Hill Road was issued a warning at 8:47 p.m. for traveling too fast for conditions. He was operating a 2011 Kia Sorento Base southbound on Main Street near Summit Street in Ivoryton when he lost control of the vehicle on a curve and struck an AT&T utility pole. No injuries were reported or observed.
• A 94 year-old Old Lyme man was issued a verbal warning at 10:52 p.m. for traveling too fast for conditions. He was operating a 2006 Ford Escape XLT at a very slow speed when he lost control of the vehicle in slippery conditions and struck a reflector pole. No injuries were reported or observed at the scene. The vehicle was towed by Oceanside Auto.

Thursday, Feb. 22
• A 54 year-old Deep River woman was arrested at 1:46 p.m. on a warrant charging her with failure to pay or plead a citation. The citation she failed to respond to was issued by the Essex animal control officer for allowing a dog to roam. She turned herself over to Troop F and was processed and released after posting a $184 cash bond. She was issued a March 8 court date in Middletown Superior Court.

Saturday, Feb. 10
• A 48 year-old Old Lyme man was arrested at 10:49 p.m. and charged with breach of peace in the second degree. He was processed and released on a $2,000 non-surety bond.

Tuesday, Feb. 13

• A 17 year-old Westbrook boy was issued a citation at 7:43 a.m. for traveling too fast for conditions. He was operating a 1999 Ford Ranger westbound on Route 80 near West Bridge Street when he lost control of the vehicle on ice that had formed overnight. The Ford crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with a 1999 Honda Accord operated by a 16 year-old Chester girl. The operator of the Honda was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic in Westbrook for observation. There were no reported injuries to the operator of the Ford or to his 14 year-old male passenger of Chester.
Wednesday, Feb. 14
• A 23 year-old Clinton woman was arrested at 12:23 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, illegal possession of narcotics, failure to keep a narcotic in its original container, failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway, and using a hand-held cell phone (texting) while driving. She was processed on a $5,000 surety bond. She was operating a vehicle northbound on Warsaw Street near Kelsey Hill Road when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree and mailbox located on the right side of the roadway, crossed over to the southbound lane, and struck a vehicle parked in the driveway and then the house beyond the parked vehicle.
• At 6:43 a.m. Eversource utilities responded to calls for power outages to residences on Westbrook Road and Farm Lane. Upon arrival Eversource workers discovered that Frontier utility pole #1342 had been struck by an unknown vehicle. The pole was broken at the base. The offending vehicle was not at the scene and left no evidence as to the make or model. Local tow companies were contacted and no vehicles had been towed in the recent past. Evidence indicated that the offending vehicle was being driven southbound on Westbrook Road (which is straight and level in the area of the broken pole), went across the northbound lane and onto the soft shoulder, and then struck the pole with the front of the vehicle. Tire marks in the soil showed that the driver backed up, turned onto Farm Lane, and departed northbound on Westbrook Road. Witnesses or anyone with information about this crash are asked to contact the Essex Resident Trooper’s office via 1-800-399-2100. All calls will be kept confidential.

• A 72 year-old Old Lyme woman was issued a verbal warning a 4:04 p.m. for failure to grant right of way at an intersection. She was operating a 2014 Nissan Sentra from a driveway at 151 Main Street, left onto Main Street, and collided with a 1999 Kawasaki motorcycle operated by a 26 year-old Clinton man. The motorcycle operator was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Center in Westbrook for medical assessment.

Sunday, Feb. 25
• A 17 year-old was arrested at 9:26 a.m. and charged with possession of a cannabis-type substance and use or possession of drug paraphernalia. Troopers responded to a private residence in Deep River after receiving a complaint about a juvenile who had marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The juvenile was processed and released to the custody of a parent pending a March 2 court date in Middletown Juvenile Court.

Chester

• A two vehicle crash was investigated on Kings Highway at 11:37 a.m. A 41 year-old man of Ridge Road was operating a 2006 Volvo V50 eastbound on Kings Highway when he proceeded left onto Middlesex Avenue and was struck in the driver’s door by an oncoming 1997 BMW 528i operated by a 30 year-old man of South Wig Hill Road. No injuries were reported or observed. There were no witnesses to the crash and no enforcement action was noted in the police incident report.

Saturday, Feb. 10
• A 20 year-old Killingworth man was issued a verbal warning at 6:48 p.m. for traveling too fast for conditions. He was operating a 1994 Lincoln Town Car westbound on Route 148 near Baker Road when he lost control of the vehicle on black ice and struck a metal-beam guardrail, causing damage to both the Lincoln and the guardrail.
• A 39 year-old Portland woman was issued a verbal warning at 7:04 a.m. for traveling too fast for conditions. She was operating a 1996 Jeep Chevrolet Sport eastbound on Route 148 (Main Street) near Spring Street when she lost control of the vehicle on black ice and struck a metal-beam guardrail, causing damage to both the vehicle and the guardrail. The operator, who was the lone occupant of the Jeep, complained of neck pain and was transported to Middlesex Hospital in Middletown for evaluation of injuries. The vehicle was towed from the scene with disabling damage. DOT was notified of the property damage.

• A 37 year-old man of Waban, Massachusetts was issued a citation at 6:55 p.m. for an unspecified charge following a two-vehicle crash. The cited operator was operating a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu LT southbound on Hoop Pole Hill Road when he collided with a 2007 Ford Econoline E350 Super operated by a 60 year-old man of Wig Hill Road. No injuries were reported or observed. Both vehicles were driven from the scene.
Monday, Feb. 12 to Monday, Feb. 19
• No arrests were made.
Tuesday, Feb. 20
• A 23 year-old man of Denlar Drive was arrested at 8:36 a.m. and charged with larceny in the first degree, forgery in the second degree, and conspiracy to commit forgery. He was processed on a $30,000 surety bond. The alleged victim was Verizon Wireless.
• An East Haddam man was arrested at 8:44 p.m. and charged with breach of peace in the second degree and threatening following an investigation on Winthop Road. He was processed on a $2,500 surety bond.
Wednesday, Feb. 21
No arrests were made.
• A motor vehicle crash was investigated on Goose Hill Road at 9:15 p.m. A black Toyota (model unknown) was operated by an unknown driver at a high rate of speed southbound on Goose Hill Road when the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and struck a utility pole approximately 50 feet south of Old Country Road. The driver fled the scene in the Toyota, but left behind the passenger side mirror, which police were able to match to the Toyota make. Anyone with information about this incident or knowledge about a Toyota brought into a repair shop for replacement of a black passenger side mirror is asked to contact Troop F police at 860-399-2100. The identity of callers will be kept confidential.

• A one-vehicle crash was investigated on the Route 9 northbound on-ramp at 6:41 a.m. A 34 year-old Middletown woman was operating a 2006 Ford Taurus onto the on-ramp when she struck a pothole and a tire blew out. The operator swerved to the left and stuck a guardrail. The vehicle was towed, but no injuries were observed or reported. No enforcement action was taken against the driver.
