Police Incident Report for Jan. 3 to Feb. 6


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, Jan. 3

No arrests were made.

Thursday, Jan. 4

• A 21 year-old man of Grandview Terrace was taken into custody at 5:48 p.m. He allegedly threatened his parents with a kitchen knife. The parents retreated to a neighbor’s house to call 911 and stated that they believed he was still inside their residence. No arrest charges were listed in the police press report.

Friday, Jan. 5 to Tuesday, Jan. 30

No arrests were made.

Wednesday, Jan. 31

No arrests were made.

• An 86 year-old Old Saybrook woman was issued a citation at 3:01 p.m. for failure to obey a control signal. She was operating a 2003 Mercedes-Benz C3204m southbound on Plains Road when she collided with a 2007 Nissan Versa operated by a 71 year-old man of Comstock Avenue. No injuries were reported or observed. One of the vehicles was towed due to disabling damage.

Thursday, Feb. 1

No arrests were made.

Friday, Feb. 2

• A 25 year-old New Haven man was arrested at 1:59 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. He was processed on a $15,000 surety bond.

Saturday, Feb. 3 to Sunday, Feb 4

No arrests were made.

Monday, Feb. 5

No arrests were made.

• A 16 year-old Clinton girl was issued a warning at 7:21 a.m. for traveling too fast for conditions. She was operating a 2005 Jeep Liberty Sport westbound on Pond Meadow Road 3/10th of a mile west of the Bushy Hill Road intersection when she lost control of the vehicle and collided with a tree located off the right side of the roadway. She was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Center in Westbrook after she complained of pain. The vehicle was towed from the scene due to disabling damage.

• A 20 year-old man of Cedar Lake Road was issued a citation at 2:47 p.m. for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. He was operating a 2013 Ford Escape when he struck the rear of a 2013 Lexus RX 350 operated by a 53 year-old woman of Whittlesey Brook Road. No injuries were reported or observed.

Saturday, Jan. 6

No arrests were made.

• A 69 year-old Westbrook woman was issued a citation at 1:02 p.m. for failure to grant right of way. She was operating a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox northbound on Route 145 when she turned right onto Route 80 and collided with a 2015 Jeep Wrangler operated by a 16 year-old Ivoryton girl.

• A 65 year-old man of Southworth Street was issued a citation at 6:41 p.m. for failure to grant right of way. He was operating a 2001 Toyota Tundra when he turned right onto Route 154 from Walgreen’s parking lot and collided with a 2006 Toyota Tacoma operated by a 26 year-old Chester man.

• An 18 year-old Guilford man was issued a citation at 2:50 p.m. for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. He was operating a 2016 Ford Transit Connect when he struck the rear of a 2018 Subaru Legacy Premium operated by a 48 year-old man of Rosemont Drive. The crash occurred at the Route 9 southbound exit 5 off-ramp at the stop sign located at the intersection of Route 80 (West Elm Street). No injuries were reported or observed.

Monday, Jan. 22 to Saturday, Jan. 27

No arrests were made.

Sunday, Jan. 28

• A 41 year-old Ivoryton man was arrested at 6:15 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was operating a light-colored Ford Expedition southbound on Warsaw Street near Kelseytown Road when the investigating trooper observed the accused driving the Ford with a flat tire. The trooper reported hearing the sound of the bare tire rim grinding against the pavement. He stopped the vehicle to offer assistance. The operator exited from the passenger side of the vehicle, claiming that the driver’s door did not work. The operator slurred his words when he spoke, was unsteady on his feet, and needed to steady himself by placing a hand on the side of the vehicle. The accused consented to and failed a standardized field sobriety test. He was processed and released on a $1,000 non-surety bond pending a February court date in Middletown Superior Court.

Chester

Thursday, Jan. 4

• A 34 year-old man of Butter Jones Road was arrested at 7:39 p.m. and charged with risk of injury to a minor, disorderly conduct, and assault in the third degree.

• A 25 year-old Wethersfield woman was issued citation at 7:27 a.m. for traveling too fast for conditions. She was operating a Honda Accord LX in snowy conditions when she lost control the vehicle, crossed the double yellow line, and collided with a 2011 Ford Explorer that was operated by a 35 year-old man of Deep Hollow Road. Minor injuries were reported.

Friday, Jan. 5 to Wednesday, Jan. 10

Thursday, Jan. 11

No arrests were made.

• A two-vehicle crash was investigated on Route 154 near Parkers Point Road at 7:16 a.m. A 28 year-old Norwich woman was operating a 2014 Honda Civic LX Southbound on Route 154 when she attempted to turn left into the parking lot of the Chester Veterinary Clinic. The Civic collided with a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta GLS operated by a 19 year-old man of Pleasant Street. The 19 year-old was driving northbound on Route 154 at a speed greater than the posted speed limit. The collision caused the Jetta to exit the roadway to the right, launch over a snow bank, and strike a utility pole. Both operators stated that they were not injured. The Jetta was towed due to severe front end damage. No enforcement action was indicated in the report police made available to the press.

Friday, Jan. 12 to Tuesday, Jan. 16

Wednesday, Jan. 17

• A 31 year-old Groton man was issued a citation at 5:37 a.m. for traveling too fast for conditions. He was operating a 2010 Hyundai Elantra when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a wire-rope guardrail located on the right shoulder. No injuries were reported or observed.

Thursday, Jan. 18 to Friday, Jan. 19

Saturday, Jan. 20

No arrests were made.

• A 49 year-old man of Deep Hollow Road was issued a citation at 3:16 a.m. for an unspecified motor vehicle violation. He was operating a 2005 Volvo V70 eastbound on Wig Hill Road, one-tenth of a mile west of Bartkiewicz Road, when he lost control of the vehicle due to a flat front tire. The vehicle struck a tree located of the right shoulder. No injuries were reported or observed.

• A 16 year-old boy of Turkey Hill Road was issued a citation at 3:17 p.m. for failure to grant right of way at a private driveway. He was operating a 2012 Toyota Sienna out of a private driveway when he was struck by a 2017 Honda CV-R operated by a 30 year-old Westbrook woman who was traveling south on Turkey Hill Road.

Friday, Jan. 26 to Thursday, Feb. 1

Friday, Feb. 2

No arrests were made.

• A 42 year-old Hartford man was issued a citation at 1:25 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. He was operating a 2011 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter when he veered off the right side of the roadway and struck small trees located in the woods. He was transported to Middlesex Hospital in Middletown by Deep River EMS for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Saturday, Feb. 3 to Tuesday, Feb. 6
