Police Incident Report for Dec. 13 to 19


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, Dec. 13 to Thursday, Dec. 14

No arrests were made.

Friday, Dec. 15

No arrests were made.

• A burglary at That’s the Spirit Liquor Store located at 18 Plains Road was investigated at 5:02 a.m. A side glass door was smashed to gain entry. Several items were destroyed and two cash registers containing cash were taken. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Troop State Police at 860-399-2100. All calls will be kept confidential. The owner of the store is a 60 year-old man of Middletown.

Saturday, Dec. 16

No arrests were made.

Sunday, Dec. 17

No arrests were made.

• A 40 year-old New Britain woman was issued a misdemeanor summons at 12:31 p.m. for operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension and failure to obey a stop sign. She was operating a 2007 GMC Yukon through the intersection of Main Street (Saybrook Road) and the bottom of the Route 9 exit 3 off-ramp when she struck the right center of a 1980 Mercedes 450SEL operated by a 16 year-old boy of Essex Road. No injuries were reported or observed. The Yukon sustained only minor damage to the front bumper and right front fender. The Mercedes sustained extensive damage to the entire right side and was towed by Oceanside Auto.

Deep River

Wednesday, Dec. 13

No arrests were made.

• A 29 year-old Lyme woman was issued a citation at 8:27 a.m. for failure to drive right. She was operating a 2009 Subaru Impreza southbound on Prospect Street when she stuck a parked and unoccupied 2002 Subaru Legacy. The cited driver reported to injuries and refused medical attention at the scene.

Thursday, Dec. 14 to Saturday, Dec. 16

No arrests were made.

Sunday, Dec. 17

• A 27 year-old Meriden man was arrested at 3:42 p.m. and charged with breach of peace in the second degree. Troop F received a 911 cell phone call from a motorist who stated that she was witnessing a male driver striking a female passenger. The witness was able to obtain the registration plate number and a physical description of the occupants. Troopers located the accused and alleged victim (a 25 year-old female) and made the arrest.

Monday, Dec. 18

No arrests were made.

• A 32 year-old Ivoryton woman was issued a citation at 2:24 p.m. for failure to grant right of way at an intersection. She was operating a 2008 Honda Civic EX eastbound on West Bridge Street at Bokum Road when she pulled in front of a 2013 Ford Fusion operated by a 23 year-old woman of High Street. No injuries were reported or observed, however, due to airbag deployment the operator of the Honda (the cited driver) was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic as a precaution. Both vehicles were towed by Atwood Auto.

Chester

Wednesday, Dec. 13

No arrests were made.

Thursday, Dec. 14

• A 54 year-old Moodus man was arrested on a warrant charging him with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, evading responsibility in the operation of a motor vehicle (fleeing the scene of an accident), and failure drive right (too slow a speed). He was processed on a $35,000 bond.

• A 16 year-old girl of West Main Street was issued a citation at 9:26 a.m. for failure to drive right. She was operating a 2008 Ford Escape XLS on eastbound on Baker Road near Route 148 when she failed to negotiate a left curve in the roadway and crashed into a mailbox on the right side embankment. The vehicle rolled over and came to rest on its roof. The operator stated that she was not injured and signed a refusal for medical treatment. There were no witnesses to the crash.

Friday, Dec. 15 to Tuesday, Dec. 19
