Police Incident Report for Nov. 29 to Dec. 5


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, Nov. 29

Thursday, Nov. 30

No arrests were made.

• A one-vehicle crash was investigated at 11:53 p.m. A vehicle bearing Connecticut registration plate 5AWLB0 crashed into SNET pole #774 near 9 North Main Street. The operator drove away from the scene and abandoned the vehicle at the intersection of Grandview Terrace and Sunset Terrace. The operator fled the scene on foot. It was unknown at the time if the operator sustained any injuries from the collision. State police applied for an arrest warrant for the operator on the charges of evading responsibility in the operation of a motor vehicle (fleeing the scene of an accident) and failure to drive right.

• A 24 year-old New Haven man was issued a citation at 8:14 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. He was operating a 2002 Honda Accord EX when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a wire rope guardrail. No injuries were reported or observed.

Sunday, Dec. 3

No arrests were made.

• A motor vehicle crash in which an operator fled the scene was investigated on Main Street 50 feet west of Ebony Lane at 1:41 a.m. A 1997 Nissan Maxima G model owned by a woman of unrecorded age of Melody Ridge Road was operated by an unknown driver westbound on Main Street when it went off the roadway and crashed in to a large rock and brush pile. The unknown operator fled the scene on foot. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage to the front end. No other details of the incident were made available.

• A 67 year-old man of River Street was issued a citation at 2:57 p.m. for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. He was operating a 2010 Nissan Sentra on Route 154 near West Avenue when he struck the rear of a 2005 Ford F250 Super Duty pick-up truck that was operated by a 52 year-old Old Lyme man. The operator of the struck vehicle was stopped and waiting to turn onto West Avenue. No injuries were reported or observed and both vehicles were driven from the scene.

Friday, Dec. 1

No arrests were made.

• A 21 year-old Clinton woman was issued a citation at 3:25 p.m. for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart following a motor vehicle crash. She was operating a 2017 Toyota Corolla northbound of Route 145 when she struck the rear of a 2004 Toyota Tacoma that was operated by a 57 year-old East Haddam man. The force of the collision caused the Tacoma to strike the rear of a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado K3500 that was operated by a 23 year-old Amston man. A passenger of one of the vehicles was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic for evaluation.

• A 72 year-old Madison man was issued a citation at 11:05 a.m. for failure to yield right of way at an intersection. The 2013 Acura TL he was operating from Route 80 onto Route 145 (Cedar Lake Road) was struck by a 2013 Dodge Challenger that was operated by a 66 year-old Higganum woman. No injuries were reported or observed and both vehicles were driven from the scene.

Monday, Dec. 4

No arrests were made.

Tuesday, Dec. 5

• A 63 year-old Moodus man was arrested at 7:01 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs after other drivers advised state police of a vehicle that was being operated erratically. Another motorist followed the suspect vehicle and reported that a red Chevrolet pick-up truck bearing Connecticut registration 8016CY was weaving into the oncoming lane and then speeding up and slowing down on Route 154. The complainant followed the suspect vehicle to a parking lot on Church Street in Deep River where he pointed the vehicle out to responding officers. The driver of the suspect vehicle subsequently failed a standardized field sobriety test.
