Police Incident Report for Oct. 18 to Nov. 7


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, Oct. 18 to Friday, Oct. 20

No arrests were made.

Saturday, Oct. 21

No arrests were made.

• A 28 year-old Deep River woman was issued a misdemeanor summons at 5:34 a.m. for evading responsibility in the operation of a motor vehicle (fleeing the scene of an accident), failure to carry a driver’s license, and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. She was operating a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta southbound on Deep River Road near Main Street in the Centerbrook section of town when she drove off the roadway and crashed into mailbox #46 and came to a final controlled rest at the end of the driveway of #46. She then fled the scene and was later located.

• A 71 year-old woman of an Essex post office box address was issued a verbal warning at 6:49 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. She was operating a 1999 Ford Escort when she drifted right and struck a metal beam guard rail. She was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic in Westbrook for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash.

Sunday, Oct. 22 to Tuesday, Oct. 24

No arrests were made.

Wednesday, Oct. 25

• A 73 year-old man of Main Street was arrested at 9:34 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and carrying a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs following a motor vehicle accident on Route 9 northbound just prior to exit 4. The accused was operating a 2005 Hyundai Sonata and had crashed into a metal beam guardrail. The accused submitted to, and failed, a standardized field sobriety test.

Thursday, Oct. 26 to Saturday, Oct. 28

No arrests were made.

Sunday, Oct. 29

No arrests were made.

• The theft of a motor vehicle was investigated at 30 Sunset Avenue at 9:36 a.m. Sometime between Oct. 28 at 11:30 p.m. and Oct. 29 at 9:40 a.m. a black, 4-door, 2013 BMW 328XI bearing CT registration plate 727XPJ was stolen from the owner’s driveway. The keys were in the vehicle and the vehicle was left unlocked.

Monday, Oct. 30 and Tuesday, Oct. 31

Wednesday, Nov. 1

No arrests were made.

• Two motor vehicle operators were issued citations at 7:54 a.m. for unspecified violations following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Routes 153 and 154. A 69 year-old Lyme man was operating a 2002 Toyota Corolla and a 41 year-old Old Saybrook woman was operating a 2013 Volvo Xc90. At the time of the crash the traffic control device was not operating due to a power failure. No injuries were reported or observed. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Thursday, Nov. 2

No arrests were made.

• The theft of a motor vehicle was investigated at 26 River Road at 5:44 a.m. A red 2015 Chevrolet Suburban bearing CT registration plate 5AMDV2 was stolen from the driveway. The homeowner’s security camera system recorded two parties exit a white SUV and gained entry to the unlocked Chevy. Both persons were wearing dark colored hoodies and pants, thus the race and gender of the two thieves could not be determined. The homeowner confirmed that the Suburban was left unlocked and the keys in the ignition. The Suburban was recovered on South Main Street in Waterbury. It was then towed to Durable Auto of Waterbury. Anyone with information is advised to contact Trooper Timothy Haroian at 860-399-2100. The case was pending further investigation.

Friday, Nov. 3 to Sunday, Nov. 5

Monday, Nov. 6

• A 54 year-old woman of North Main Street in Ivoryton was issued a citation at 6:33 a.m. for failure to grant right of way after the 2004 Chrysler Pacifica she was operating from a driveway onto North Main Street westbound was struck by a 1997 GMC Jimmy operated by a 50 year-old Old Saybrook man. No injuries were reported or observed but disabling damage was done to the cited driver’s vehicle.

Tuesday, Nov. 7

Deep River

Wednesday, Oct. 18 to Wednesday, Nov. 1

Thursday, Nov. 2

• A 24 year-old Killingworth man was arrested at 8:27 p.m. and charged with criminal mischief in the third degree and assault in the third degree. State police were dispatched to the Deep River Library on Village Street for a report of a disturbance between two males. Subsequent investigation revealed that the accused assaulted another man and slashed a tire on another person’s vehicle.

• A 45 year-old Clinton woman was issued a citation at 7:14 a.m. for failure to drive right after the 1970 Buick Skylark she was operating struck a 2014 KIA Soul operated by a 48 year-old Clinton man. The crash occurred in front of Cumberland Farms on Main Street. No injuries were reported or observed.

Saturday, Nov. 4

No arrests were made.

• A 20 year-old Old Saybrook man was issued a citation at 5:34 a.m. for failure to drive right after he lost control of the 1996 Subaru Impreza Outback he was operating when his front tire blew out. He swerved and hit a guardrail. No injuries were reported or observed.

Sunday, Nov. 5

• A 22 year-old Bristol man was arrested at 5:47 p.m. and charged with reckless driving.

Monday, Nov. 6 and Tuesday, Nov. 7

No arrests were made.

Chester

Wednesday, Oct. 18 to Tuesday, Oct. 24

Wednesday, Oct. 25

No arrests were made.

• A 54 year-old woman of a Maple Street apartment was issued a citation at 5:22 p.m. for failure to signal a turn following a two-vehicle crash on Middlesex Avenue at Old Depot Road. The cited driver was operating a 2012 Nissan Frontier. The struck vehicle was a 2013 Mini Cooper that was operated by a 67 year-old Deep River woman. No injuries were reported or observed and both vehicles were driven from the scene.
