Police Incident Report for Sept. 13 to Oct. 3


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, Sept. 13

No arrests were made.

• A 58 year-old man of Walnut Street in Ivoryton was issued a written warning at 6:24 p.m. for failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart. He was operating a 2005 GMC Savanna G3500 eastbound on Main Street at Conklin Avenue when he struck the rear of a 2013 GMC K5200 operated by a 37 year-old man of Chestnut Street in Ivoryton. No injuries were reported or observed.

Thursday, Sept. 14 to Friday, Sept. 22

No arrests were made.

Saturday, Sept. 23

No arrests were made.

• A 49 year-old woman of Highland Terrace in Ivoryton was issued a citation at 3:19 p.m. for unsafe backing after the 2008 Toyota Highlander Sport she was operating backed into a parked 2017 Mazda Miata. The Miata was owned by a 49 year-old Guilford woman. No injuries were observed or reported.

Monday, Sept. 25

No arrests were made.

• A 34 year-old Old Saybrook man was issued a written warning at 4:51 p.m. for failure to drive right after he lost control of the 2017 Yamaha motorcycle he was operating westbound on Plains Road near Saybrook Road, veered off the roadway, and landed the bike on its left side. The operator fell off the motorcycle and landed on the pavement. He claimed a left shoulder injury and was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic for evaluation.

Friday, Sept. 29

No arrests were made.

• An 18 year-old Old Lyme man was issued a citation at 7:25 a.m. for failure to drive right following a one-vehicle crash on Route 153. He was operating a 2005 Acura RSX northbound on Route 153 when he left the travel portion of the roadway, entered the right shoulder, and struck a utility pole. He stated that he was cleaning the windshield with washer fluid and wipers when he drifted off the roadway. No injuries were observed or reported.

Saturday, Sept. 30 to Sunday, Oct. 1

Monday, Oct. 2

No arrests were made.

• A 77 year-old woman of Oak Ledge Drive was issued a citation at 1:02 p.m. for failure to grant right of way. She was operating a 2005 Ford Thunderbird on Main Street when she turned left across the oncoming lane to enter the driveway at the Sunoco gas station. She was then struck by a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 operated by a 25 year-old Waterbury man.

• A motor vehicle accident on Main Street near Fall River Drive in which one driver fled the scene was investigated at 1:51 p.m. An unknown male operator of a 2015 Yamaha motorcycle collided with a 2002 Honda Accord operated by a 63 year-old Meriden man. The motorcycle operator fled on foot and was pursued by a police dog track. Police could not find the suspect. Anyone with information about this accident is asked to call Trooper Joseph O’Connell at 860-399-2100. All calls will be kept confidential.

Wednesday, Sept. 13 to Friday, Sept. 15

Saturday, Sept. 16

• A 22 year-old man of Village Street was arrested at 10:23 p.m. and charged with criminal mischief in the third degree, breach of peace in the second degree, and assault in the third degree following a domestic altercation with a 21 year-old woman. The assault occurred on July 30, 2017.

• A 75 year-old Colchester woman was issued a citation at 4:53 p.m. for failure to grant right of way. She was operating a 2009 Toyota Scion from a stopped position at the intersection of Spring and Union streets, and struck the front of a 2006 Toyota Camry operated by a 17 year-old Chester woman. No injuries were reported or observed.

Monday, Sept. 18

• A 27 year-old woman of Beaumont, Texas was issued a citation at 9:37 a.m. for making in improper turn. She was operating a 2017 Nissan Sentra westbound on Route 80 near the Route 9 exit 5 on-ramp when she made a U-turn in front of a 2000 Jeep Cherokee operated by a 54 year-old Chester man, which resulted in a collision. No injuries were reported or observed.

• A two-vehicle crash in which one driver fled the scene was investigated at 5:42 p.m. A 53 year-old Chester woman was operating a 2018 Hyundai Accident southbound on Route 154 at Kirtland Street when a Honda Civic operated by a woman struck her from behind. The operator of the Honda fled the scene and was wanted for evading the scene of an accident. No injuries were reported or observed. Anyone with information about this accident is asked to contact Trooper Ferenc Bozso at 860-399-2100.

• A 38 year-old New London man was issued a misdemeanor summons at 8:34 p.m. for reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension, and improper use of marker plate.

Sunday, Sept. 17

No arrests were made.

Monday, Sept. 18

No arrests were made.

• A 19 year-old Haddam Neck woman was issued a citation at 11:33 p.m. for failure to drive right after she lost control of the 2009 Pontiac Vibe she was operating and struck a guardrail. No injuries were reported or observed.

Tuesday, Sept. 19

No arrests were made.

• A 56 year-old Norwich woman was issued a citation at 2:49 p.m. for making an unsafe movement from a stopped or standing position. She entered traffic from a driveway at 28 High Street while operating a 2007 Subaru Forester and collided with a 2015 Nissan Altima operated by an 89 year-old woman of High Street. No injuries were reported or observed.

Wednesday, Sept. 20

No arrests were made.

• A Westbrook man of unrecorded age was issued a citation at 7:59 a.m. for possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to have brake lights, traveling unreasonably fast, and speeding following a motor vehicle stop on Winthrop Road at Cedar Lake. A male passenger of unrecorded age was issued a citation for possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana.

Thursday, Sept. 21

• A 24 year-old man of West Main Street was arrested at 12:53 p.m. and charged with criminal trespass in the second degree, breach of peace in the second degree, and criminal mischief following an incident at a neighboring address on West Main Street.

• A 20 year-old Deep River man was issued a misdemeanor summons at 7:42 a.m. for possession of marijuana, use or possession of drug paraphernalia (two smoking pipes), and having a defective exhaust following a motor vehicle stop on West Main Street. This same man was issued a citation in Old Saybrook for possession of drug paraphernalia at Exchange Club Pond on April 2, 2017.

Friday, Sept. 22 to Thursday, Sept. 28

• The loss or theft of a wallet that contained credit cards and personal identification at Valero gas station, 201 Middlesex Avenue, was investigated at 9:52 a.m.

Saturday, Sept. 30

No arrests were made.

Sunday, Oct. 1

No arrests were made.

• A 23 year-old woman of Barker Road was issued a citation at 6:32 a.m. for failure to drive right, failure to carry a driver’s license, and distracted driving. She was operating a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound on North Main Street north of Route 148 when she became distracted, lost sight of the road, crossed over the northbound lane, and struck a rock wall. No injuries were reported or observed.

Monday, Oct. 2

No arrests were made.

• A 22 year-old Killingworth man was issued misdemeanor summons at 3:50 p.m. for reckless driving at 3:50 p.m.
