Police Incident Report for July 12 to Aug. 15


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, July 12 to Monday, July 17

Tuesday, July 18

No arrests were made.

• A 62 year-old Preston man was issued a written warning at 8:10 a.m. for passing on the right after the 2000 Subaru Legacy Outback Ltd he was operating northbound on Saybrook Road one-tenth of a mile north of the Route 9 exit 3 off ramp was struck by a 2000 International 4000 Series 4700 truck operated by a 42 year-old Yantic man. No injuries were reported or observed.

Wednesday, July 19 to Sunday, July 23

• A 39 year-old Killingworth woman was issued a citation at 5 p.m. for failure to obey a control signal after the 2012 Lexus IS250 she was operating eastbound on Westbrook Road struck the rear of a 2014 Acura MDX Tech operated by a 35 year-old Moodus woman. The collision occurred at the intersection of Westbrook and Bokum roads. The operator of the struck vehicle was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic in Westbrook after complaining of back pain. The cited driver claimed no injuries.

Wednesday, July 26

• A 70 year-old Centerbrook man was issued a citation at 5:10 p.m. for failure to grant right of way at an intersection after the 2002 Chevy S10 he was operating struck a 2002 GMC Sierra operated by a 56 year-old Centerbrook woman. No injuries were reported or observed and both vehicles were driven from the scene.

Sunday, July 30

No arrests were made.

• A motor vehicle accident involving a 21 year-old Montville woman was investigated at 10:12 p.m. She was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic for treatment of suspected injuries. The crash was still under investigation at the time the police press report was released and enforcement action was pending.

Monday, July 31 to Saturday, Aug. 5

No arrests were made.

Sunday, Aug. 6

No arrests were made.

• A burglary was investigated at Essex Mart, 90 Plains Road, at 6:19 a.m. Three masked individuals gained entry into the store by forcing the front door open with a crow bar type tool. Once inside the three suspects stole tobacco products and approximately $150 in cash from the register. The suspects also forced their way into a storage room and damaged the video surveillance system and the electronics for the gas pumps. An ATM in the store was also damaged, but entry into the machine was unsuccessful and no cash was taken. The three suspects are believed to be the same group that committed a similar crime in Haddam during the same night. At press time no vehicle was associated with these burglaries. Anyone with information is asked to call Troop F state police at 860-399-2100. All calls will be kept confidential.

Monday, Aug. 7

Tuesday, Aug. 8

• A 24 year-old Hartford man and a 24 year-old Windsor man were arrested at 1:30 p.m. Each man was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and conspiracy to sell a controlled substance following the report of a suspicious motor vehicle in the Essex Plaza parking lot.

Wednesday, Aug. 9 to Thursday, Aug. 10

No arrests were made.

Friday, Aug. 11

No arrests were made.

• A burglary was investigated at the Essex Transfer Station located at 5 Dump Road at 5:55 a.m. Police had no suspects in the case. Anyone with information about this burglary is asked to contact Trooper April Moran at 860-399-2100.

Thursday, July 20

• A 36 year-old Westbrook man was arrested at 2:56 p.m. on Rattling Valley Road on a warrant charging him with criminal violation of a restraining order. He was processed and released after posting a $7,500 surety bond pending a July 21 court date.

Friday, July 21

• An Middletown man whose identity was not released was arrested at 1:44 p.m. and charged with criminal mischief in the second degree and reckless endangerment in the second degree after he allegedly threw an object at a vehicle driven by a 21 year-old Middletown woman. The object damaged the woman’s hood and windshield. The accused left the scene and was later located at his residence in Middletown, where he was arrested.

Sunday, July 30

No arrests were made.

• A 24 year-old Chester woman was issued a citation at 10:46 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway after the 2007 Chevrolet Aveo she was operating eastbound on Route 80 crossed over the westbound lane and struck a utility pole. The operator refused medical treatment. The vehicle was towed.

Monday, July 31 to Monday, Aug. 7

No arrests were made.

Tuesday, Aug. 8

• A 55 year-old man of Hemlock Drive was arrested at 9:02 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct. During a disturbance, the accused went into the basement of a home and “started to destroy stuff and scream,” according to the written police press report. The accused sustained a laceration on his head and was treated at the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic in Westbrook.

Wednesday, Aug. 9

No arrests were made.

• An 18 year-old Southington man was issued a citation at 7:19 p.m. for failure to drive right after the 2016 Nissan Altima he was operating left the roadway and struck a wire rope guardrail. No injuries were reported or observed.

Thursday, Aug. 10 to Friday, Aug. 11

No arrests were made.

Saturday, Aug. 12

• A 38 year-old man of Westbrook Road was arrested at 9:24 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct following a domestic dispute.

Sunday, Aug. 13 to Monday, Aug. 14

No arrests were made.

Tuesday, Aug. 15

• A 54 year-old man of Spring Street was arrested at 8:46 p.m. on a warrant charging him with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a control substance with intent to sell or distribute. He was wanted by Groton police. He was processed and released after posting a $25,000 surety bond.

• A 71 year-old East Haddam man was issued a warning at 12:56 p.m. for failure to drive right after he swerved off the roadway while operating a 2015 Toyota Rav4 Limited and struck a wire rope guardrail. The driver stated that he was not injured in the crash but he opted to be transported to Middlesex Memorial Hospital via Chester Ambulance for medical evaluation.

• A 53 year-old Granby man was issued a citation at 12:31 a.m. for failure to drive right after he lost control of the 2011 Chevy Silverado he was operating and struck a wire-rope guardrail. He was transported to Hartford Hospital for evaluation. The vehicle was towed by Atwoods Auto.

• A 57 year-old Wallingford man was issued a citation at 2:47 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway after the 2011 Toyota Scion he was operating struck a 2013 Chevy Camaro operated by an 80 year-old Middletown man.

Friday, July 28 to Sunday, Aug. 6

Monday, Aug. 7

No arrests were made.

• A 38 year-old man of Middlesex Avenue was issued a misdemeanor summons at 1:33 a.m. for evading responsibility in the operation of a motor vehicle (fleeing the scene of an accident), failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway, and failure to obey a stop sign. The accused was traveling southbound on Maple Street, drove through the intersection, attempted to turn left onto Straits Road, exited the roadway, and crashed through a wire-rope guardrail before coming to rest in a shallow stream. No injuries were reported or observed. The accused fled the scene on foot and was later located at his residence.
