Police Incident Report for June 20 to July 5


The Guilford Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in town. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Tuesday, June 20

No arrests were made.

• Criminal mischief was investigated on Old Whitfield Street at Stone House Lane at 6:25 a.m.

• A theft of items from a motor vehicle was investigated at 47 Clapboard Hill Road at 9:35 a.m. Items reported stolen were towels, sheets, creams, and gloves.

• A complaint about a forged business check that was cashed in California was investigated at 2488 Boston Post Road at 1:16 p.m.

• Threatening via racial slurs made against a co-worker was investigated at 490 Boston Post Road at 1:40 p.m.

• A fraud complaint was investigated at 157 Tupelo Lane at 2:54 p.m. A woman reported receiving a credit card that she did not request.

• A larceny was investigated at 1057 Boston Post Road at 3:37 p.m.

• Illegal discharge of a weapon was investigated at 18 Seaview Terrace at 3:38 p.m. A man shot himself in the hand while cleaning a handgun. The accidental shooting incident was reported to police by Yale Clinic on Goose Lane.

• A large turtle was reported blocking the roadway on Beta Avenue near Woodland Road at 7:38 p.m.

• A caller from Circle Beach Road reported that youths were climbing on a house roof at 9:27 a.m.

• A larceny was investigated at 400 Church Street at 9:38 p.m.

Wednesday, June 21

• A 31 year-old Derby man was arrested at 12:39 p.m. and charged with criminal mischief in the third degree, interfering with an officer, breach of peace in the second degree, assault in the third degree, strangulation in the second degree, and unlawful restraining in the first degree following an assault investigation on the 300 block of Stepstone Hill Road.

• A larceny was investigated at 505 Whitfield Street at 7:56 p.m.

• Harassment was reported on Davis Drive at 9:30 p.m.

Thursday, June 22

No arrests were made.

• A complainant at 127 Crestwood Drive stated that an animal was in her home, possibly a squirrel, at 6:09 a.m. The animal control officer could not find any animal in the house.

• Neighbor trouble was investigated on Mohawk Trail at 6:23 a.m. The complainant stated that a neighbor had hacked her laptop and phone.

• A complaint about fraud was investigated at 454 Willow Road at 10:01 p.m. The complainant reported receiving credit cards for which she had not applied.

Friday, June 23

No arrests were made.

• A welfare check was made at 625 Boston Post Road at 7:45 a.m. A complainant at Guilford Savings Bank reported that a man with a bicycle was sleeping behind the bank.

• Erratic operation of a motor vehicle was investigated on the 3000 block of Boston Post Road at 9:36 a.m. Police learned that the operator was 36 weeks pregnant and was leaning to get a snack.

• A complaint about credit card fraud was investigated at 2321 Long Hill Road at 2:43 p.m.

• Neighbor trouble was investigated on Laurel Ridge Road at 6:29 p.m. A complainant reported that the new neighbors have been trespassing on her property when she is not home.

• A larceny was investigated a Walmart, 900 Boston Post Road, at 8:19 p.m. The suspect, a white female, fled in a green Honda toward Branford. The stolen items were recovered.

Saturday, June 24

No arrests were made.

• A caller from 230 Sam Hill Road reported that a fox was running around with a possible eye injury. Police checked the area and could not locate the fox.

• A complaint about noise from a party using a public address system was investigated on Lantern Hill Road at 10:13 p.m.

Sunday, June 25

• A 47 year-old man of Whitfield Street was arrested at 2:04 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

• A 22 year-old man of Little Meadow Road was arrested at 2 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct.

• A complaint about identity fraud was investigated at 483 Colonial Road at 8:02 a.m.

• A complaint about two men, possibly intoxicated, harassing a woman at her apartment was investigated on Whitfield Street at 9:50 p.m.

Monday, June 26

No arrests were made.

Tuesday, June 27

• A 35 year-old Madison man was arrested at 6:15 a.m. and charged with larceny in the sixth degree. Occupation: unemployed.

• A 29 year-old East Haven man was arrested at 6 p.m. and charged with risk of injury to a minor, assault in the third degree, and reckless endangerment in the second degree.

Wednesday, June 28

No arrests were made.

• A dumping violation was investigated on County Road at 8:26 a.m. A complainant stated that a Penski truck was parked and two men were throwing furniture into the woods. When police arrived, the men, the truck, and furniture were gone.

Thursday, June 29

No arrests were made.

• A 55 year-old man of Maplecrest Drive was arrested at 10:50 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway.

Friday, June 30

No arrests were made.

• A vehicle bearing Connecticut registration plate AA97734 was repossessed from 55 Church Street by Skyline Recovery Service at 7:41 a.m.

• A welfare check was made at 157 Goose Lane at 8:25 a.m. A person was reported lying in front of a professional building with a British flag over his body. The area was checked and police could not locate the subject.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at the Guilford Marina at 5:52 p.m. A complainant stated that three girls were at the shack located on Grass Island across the East River and that it looked as if one of the girls was spray-painting the shack. Police could not locate the subjects.

Saturday, July 1

• A 57 year-old woman of Main Street was arrested at 11:31 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway.

• A domestic dispute involving an intoxicated female roommate and a damaged vehicle was investigated at 750 West Lake Avenue at 2:32 a.m.

• Suspicious activity was investigated on the 100 block of Nut Plains Road at 11:16 p.m. A complainant reported that two or three men got out of a current model white Mercedes, yelled at each other, and seemed to fight against one man, then returned to the vehicle and drove off. Police could not locate the suspect vehicle.

• A report of a suspicious vehicle was investigated at 184 Sachems Head Road at 12:24 a.m. A complainant reported that a vehicle was parked in a shared driveway that does not belong there. Police learned that a male driver was waiting for his girlfriend.

Sunday, July 2

No arrests were made.

• Criminal trespass was investigated at 121 Neck Road at 5:42 p.m.

Monday, July 3

• A 28 year-old Branford man was arrested at 7:26 p.m. and charged with larceny in the sixth degree.

• A complaint about identity fraud was investigated at 68 Uncas Circle at 5:12 p.m. The complainant’s name and social security number were used in attempt to obtain a credit card in South Dakota.

Tuesday, July 4

• A 35 year-old Madison man was arrested at 4:45 p.m. and charged with larceny in the fifth degree.

• A 33 year-old Southbury woman was arrested at 10:55 p.m. and charged with assault in the third degree, assault in the third degree on a person age 60 or older or who is handicapped or pregnant, reckless endangerment in the second degree, and two counts of breach of peace in the second degree.

• A domestic dispute was investigated on Andy Lane at 12:30 a.m.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 6:25 a.m. at 339 Old Whitfield Street at 6:25 a.m.

• Erratic operation of a motor vehicle bearing Connecticut registration plate 384-ZZO resulted in a written warning against the operator following a motor vehicle stop in front of 1057 Boston Post Road. The erratic driving was reported by an anonymous caller.

Wednesday, July 5

• A 70 year-old man of Durham Road was arrested at 4:45 p.m. and charged with breach or peace in the second degree and threatening in the second degree.

• A 34 year-old Milford man was arrested at 8:38 p.m. and charged with larceny in the sixth degree.

• Guilford police assisted Troop F troopers locate a woman who was forced out of a vehicle passing through town. The woman was found at the Shell gas station. Police transported her to a train station.

• A larceny was investigated at Walmart, 900 Boston Post Road, at 2:36 p.m.

• A larceny was investigated at 911 Hoop Pole Road at 3:22 p.m. A mailbox was stolen during the overnight hours.

• A complaint about three horses in the roadway walking northbound was investigated on the 200 block of Moose Hill Road at 4:31 p.m.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 2311 Boston Post Road at 7:27 p.m. The air-conditioning system located in the rear of the building was damaged.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 2631 Durham Road at 7:33 p.m.

• A burglary was investigated at 300 Great Hill Road at 9:33 p.m.
