Police Incident Report for July 5 to 11


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, July 5 to Sunday, July 9

• A Quaker Hill man of unidentified age was issued a citation at 8:36 a.m. for failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart after the 2005 Kawasaki motorcycle he was operating struck the rear of a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck. The operator of the Chevy had slowed suddenly due to traffic ahead. The motorcycle operator was conscious and alert at the scene of the accident. He was transported by Life Star helicopter to Yale New Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Saturday, July 8

• A 33 year-old East Lyme man was arrested at 1:51 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway following a motor vehicle accident. He was operating a 2010 Toyota Corolla when he drove off the travel portion of the roadway and struck a wire-rope guardrail. No injuries were reported of observed. The accused agreed to a standardized field sobriety test, which he failed.

• A 20 year-old man of Quebec, Canada was issued a citation at 11:48 a.m. for failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart after the 2017 Peterbuilt truck he was operating struck the rear of a 2016 GMC Savanna operated by a 65 year-old man. No injuries were reported or observed.
