Police Incident Report for June 14 to July 4


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, June 14 to Thursday, June 15

No arrests were made.

Friday, June 16

No arrests were made.

• An 82 year-old Old Saybrook man was issued a warning at 3:16 p.m. for failure to obey a stop sign after the 2004 GMC Sierra K1500 he was operating from Plaza Drive onto Main Street collided with a 1989 Ford Ranger operated by a 58 year-old Westbrook man. No injuries were reported or observed and both vehicles were driven from the scene despite moderate damage.

Saturday, June 17 to Tuesday, July 4

Deep River

Wednesday, June 14

• A 29 year-old Meriden man was arrested at 10:26 a.m. on a warrant charging him with failure to appear in the second degree during a motor vehicle stop. During the stop he was issued a misdemeanor summons for operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension and speeding.

• A 39 year-old man of Hidden Terrace was issued a citation at 8:51 a.m. for failure to grant right of way at an intersection after the 2015 Chevy Silverado pick-up truck he was operating collided with a 2014 Ford Fusion operated by a 79 year-old Higganum woman. No injuries were reported or observed and both vehicles were driven from the scene.

Saturday, June 17

No arrests were made.

• A 78 year-old man of Westerly, Rhode Island was issued a citation at 2:45 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway after the 2013 Lexus 350 he was operating struck a cable barrier on the shoulder of the roadway and caused gravel to become airborne. The gravel struck a 2016 Chevy K1500 operated by a 43 year-old Meriden woman who was traveling behind. The cited driver was transported to Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic in Westbrook for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash. No other injuries were reported or observed.

Sunday, June 18 to Tuesday, June 20

No arrests were made.

Wednesday, June 21

• A 22 year-old Bozrah man was arrested at 12:25 p.m. and charged with breach of peace and interfering with an officer (non-assaultive). The incident took place at Brewer’s Deep River Marina on River Lane. The management of the marina reported an uncooperative male. The accused refused to leave the site by order of the management. The accused remained uncooperative with responding officers and was arrested. He was unable to post a $1,000 surety bond and remained in custody until court arraignment.

• A 26 year-old Ivoryton man was issued a citation at 11:17 a.m. for failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart after the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe he was operating eastbound of Route 80 just west of West Bridge Street struck the rear of a 2012 Subaru Outack 2.5i Limited operated by a 54 year-old woman of West Elm Street who had braked for a family of ducks crossing the roadway. No injuries were reported or observed and both vehicles were driven from the scene.

• A larceny was investigated at a residence on West Bridge street at 1:20 p.m. Sometime during the prior 24 hours, two heat exchangers for a boat were stolen from the complainant’s front yard. The total value of the items was estimated at $1,600.

No arrests were made.

Tuesday, June 27

No arrests were made.

• A one-vehicle accident was investigated at 10:45 p.m. A 23 year-old Niantic man was operating a 2010 Mercury Mariner when he fell asleep and drove into a wire rope guardrail. No injuries were reported or observed but he was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic as a precaution. No enforcement action was indicated in the police press report.

Thursday, June 29

• A 23 year-old New Haven man was arrested at 10:08 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and making an improper turn following a one-vehicle crash. He was operating a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound on Winthrop Road when he made a left turn at 427 Winthrop Road and went down a grass pathway on the east side of the road. When he reached the end of the pathway he backed up and struck a chain link fence, knocking it down. The operator then tried to back up over bushes and small saplings before becoming stuck between two small trees. No injuries were reported or observed.

• A 30 year-old Waterford man was issued a citation at 9:14 a.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway after he lost control of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee he was operating and struck a wire rope guardrail.

• A 24 year-old Meriden woman was issued a citation at 3:08 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway after she lost control of the 2010 Toyota Corolla she was operating and struck a wire rope guardrail. A 28 year-old male was a passenger onboard the Toyota. No injuries were reported or observed. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

Sunday, July 2

• A 47 year-old man of West Main Street was arrested at 12:45 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. He was operating a 2012 Volkswagen Beetle eastbound on Route 145 at the Route 148 intersection when he drove straight through the intersection into the woods and hit a tree. The operator, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash.

• A one-vehicle accident was investigated on Route 148 at 8 a.m. A 55 year-old man of Pleasant Street was operating a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 westbound on Route 148 at the Route 9 southbound off ramp when he reported back spasms, veered to the right, and struck a metal-beam guardrail located on the right shoulder of the roadway. No injuries were reported or observed as a result of the crash. The operator was transported to Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic for treatment of his back issues.

• A 51 year-old Quaker Hill man was issued a citation at 12:16 a.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway after the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 pick-up truck he was operating veered struck a 2015 Dodge Dart operated by a 25 year-old Old Lyme man. No injuries were reported or observed.
