Police Incident Report for June 1 to 19


The Guilford Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in town. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Thursday, June 1

No arrests were made.

• A 43 year-old woman of Little Meadow Road was issued a misdemeanor summons at 7:06 p.m. for evading responsibility in the operating of a motor vehicle (fleeing the scene of an accident), failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway, and using a hand-held cell phone while driving.

• A breach of peace incident related to a fight was investigated on the 300 block of Whitfield Street at 8:25 a.m.

• A large turtle was spotted in the roadway near 600 Long Hill Road at 10:04 a.m. The town K9 officer responded. The turtle was then reported to be safe and the K9 response was canceled.

• A complaint from a man who claimed his tire was blown out by a bullet was investigated in the parking lot behind Guilford Eye Associates on Boston Post Road at 1:29 p.m. Police determined that the vehicle tire struck a curb, which caused the tire to blow out. No bullet was involved.

Friday, June 2

No arrests were made.

Saturday, June 3

• A 46 year-old man of Long Hill Road was arrested at 10:30 a.m. and charged with breach of peace in the second degree.

• A 32 year-old Branford man was arrested at 9:13 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway.

• A 30 year-old man of Cove Avenue was arrested at 11:40 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and carrying a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs following a motor vehicle stop on Route 80.

• A motor vehicle was reported stolen from 455 Boston Post Road at 11:26 a.m.

• Harassment via messages was investigated on the 100 block of Tanner Marsh Road at 12:11 p.m.

• Complaints were made about Jehovah’s Witnesses going door-to-door where made on Joyce Street at 11:08 a.m.

Sunday, June 4

No arrests were made.

Monday, June 5

No arrests were made.

• Harassment was reported below the 100 block of Durham Road at 11:14 a.m.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 38 Rosemary Lane at 11:36 a.m.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 19 Guilford Court at 1:34 p.m.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 159 Boston Street at 2:12 p.m.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 1 Lanes Pond Road at 3:26 p.m. A building was spray painted.

Tuesday, June 6

No arrests were made.

Wednesday, June 7

• A 22 year-old New Haven man was arrested at 9:30 a.m. on a warrant charging him with burglary in the third degree, conspiracy to commit burglary in the third degree, larceny in the sixth degree, conspiracy to commit larceny in the sixth degree, criminal liability acts related to larceny in the sixth degree, and eight counts of criminal liability acts related to burglary in the third degree.

• A larceny was investigated at Guilford High School 605 New England Road at 10:22. The theft occurred on June 5.

Thursday, June 8

• A 22 year-old North Branford man was arrested at 9 a.m. and charged with interfering with an officer and disorderly conduct.

• A nest of baby birds that fell out of a tree into the roadway was reported in front of 1384 Little Meadow Road at 7:02 a.m. The area was checked and no birds were found.

• A report about a mailbox that was smashed and left hanging from the post was investigated a 4 Sparrow Bush Lane at 7:55 a.m.

• A caller reported that her son’s cell phone was taken from the Guilford High School. The complainant tracked the cell phone to Adams School, and it was believed the phone was on a school bus. It turned out that the phone was found by a student who was carrying the phone until its owner could be located.

• Harassment via threatening text messages was investigated at 130 North Street at 8:14 p.m.

• A domestic dispute was investigated on Church Street at 10:10 p.m. An anonymous caller reported hearing a man and a woman yelling and screaming.

Friday, June 9

No arrests were made.

• A complaint about a squirrel in the house was reported at 1492 Great Hill Road at 10:03 a.m.

• The theft of an unregistered trailer was investigated at 2945 Boston Post Road at 4:05 p.m.

Saturday, June 10

• A 54 year-old New Haven man was arrested at 8:11 p.m. and charged with breach of peace in the second degree and threatening in the second degree.

• A small plastic pool was reported in the roadway in front of 1575 Boston Post Road at 9:01 a.m. The owner of the pool stopped and retrieved the pool. Police stood by with flashing lights for safety.

• A report of a missing child was investigated on the 800 block of Boston Post Road at 12:13 p.m.

• A larceny was investigated at 201 Granite Road at 3:54 p.m.

• A complaint about three unruly students who refused to leave was investigated at the Guilford Free Library, 67 Park Street, at 4:17 p.m.

• Harassment was investigated on the 500 block of Leetes Island Road at 7:34 p.m.

• Threatening was investigated at Walmart, 900 Boston Post Road, at 8:11 p.m.

Sunday, June 11

No arrests were made.

• An suicide attempt was investigated at 8:45 a.m. The location was not disclosed.

Monday, June 12

• A 48 year-old man of Leetes Island Road was arrested at 10:20 p.m. and charged with breach of peace in the second degree and assault in the third degree.

• A larceny was investigated at 1675 Boston Post Road at 9 a.m.

• A complaint about credit card fraud was investigated at 337 Mulberry Point Road at 10:13 a.m.

• A larceny was investigated at 929 Boston Post Road at 11:02 a.m.

Tuesday, June 13

No arrests were made.

• A complaint about fraud was investigated at 27 Gamma Avenue at 8:32 p.m. The complainant received a letter regarding at attempt to open an account in his or her name. While in Vermont, the complainant’s social security card was stolen.

Wednesday, June 14

• A 40 year-old woman of Great Hill Road was arrested at 5 p.m. and charged with risk of injury to a minor, disorderly conduct, and assault in the third degree.

• A 49 year-old man of Jennifers Drive was arrested at 5:55 p.m. and charged with risk of injury to a minor and assault in the third degree on an elderly, handicapped, or pregnant person.

Thursday, June 15

• A 20 year-old woman of North Madison Road was arrested at 11 a.m. and charged with disorderly conduct and threatening in the second degree.

• A vehicle repossession was conducted at 1945 Route 80 at 7:46 a.m.

• A larceny was investigated at 248 Sam Hill Road at 10:22 a.m. A large teak wood bench was taken.

• A welfare check was made on County Road near West Street at 12:39 p.m. A caller reported that a white male was laying on a stone bridge without a shirt. A Ryder rental truck was parked nearby. The vehicle was gone by the time police arrived, however a neighbor had checked on the man and learned that he was simply eating his lunch while resting on the bridge.

Friday, June 16

• A 29 year-old East Haven woman was arrested at 10:42 a.m. and charged with larceny in the sixth degree.

• A 38 year-old woman of Worcester, Massachusetts was arrested at 2:15 p.m. on a warrant charging her with failure to appear in the first degree.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at Guilford Court at 10:24 a.m.

Saturday, June 17

No arrests were made.

• A noise complaint was reported at 12:45 a.m. A complainant reported that loud music was coming from Augur’s Irish Pub located at 29 Water Street for the last two nights. Police spoke with the bartender, the music was turned down, and the exterior doors were closed. Police remained in the area for several minutes and reported no further issues.

• A complaint about a man standing at the corner of Boston Street and Sound View Road exposing himself to passing motorists was investigated at 2:27 a.m. The area was searched and the suspect could not be found.

• Numerous calls were made about a homeowner who was target shooting on his own property on the 600 block of Little Meadow Road at 10:53 a.m. Police informed the anonymous complainants that police dispatch was called prior to the shooting practice, that the location for such target practice was safe, and that the property owner had the legal right to shoot. No criminal issues were involved.

• A report of ducklings trapped in a drain was investigated on Ledgeview Lane at 11:16 a.m.

• A complaint about an older white male using a metal detector and digging up the Town Green was investigated at 11:28 a.m.

• The management of Big Y reported a panhandler was on the property outside the store at 1:30 p.m. The female panhandler was approaching motorists in the plaza parking lot. Police told the woman that if she panhandles again on plaza property that she would be arrested and charged with trespass. A man playing guitar outside the Big Y entrance was also told that he was trespassing.

• A complaint about a dog in an outdoor cage constantly barking at 1330 West Street was investigated at 8:08 p.m. No one was home at the residence. Police checked the dog, which appeared to be in fine condition. Police left a red tag for the dog’s owner.

Sunday, June 18

• A 41 year-old woman of Long Hill Road was arrested at 8 a.m. and charged with risk of injury to a minor and disorderly conduct.

• A 36 year-old woman of Bunker Hill Road was arrested at 7:16 p.m. and charged with risk of injury to a minor and disorderly conduct.

• Criminal mischief was investigated on Seaside Avenue at 9:24 a.m. Numerous mailboxes were damaged, signs ripped down, and port-o-potties tipped over.

• A larceny was investigated at 520 Village Walk at 12:25 p.m.

• Harassment was reported on Seaside Avenue at 2:22 p.m.

• A domestic dispute was investigated on the 1700 block of Long Hill Road at 7:02 p.m.

Monday, June 19

No arrests were made.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 540 Goose Lane at 9:37 a.m. A mailbox was damaged during the overnight hours. The mailbox was smashed but still on the post.

• A theft of six to eight bales of hay from 655 Little Meadow Road was investigated at 11:58 a.m.
