Police Incident Report for April 20 to 26


The Guilford Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in town. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Thursday, April 20

• A 32 year-old Madison man was arrested at 1:35 p.m. and charged with larceny in the sixth degree.

• Suspicious activity was reported on West Street at 6:43 a.m. A woman reported that a small silver pick-up truck pulled into her driveway. Two oil drums were in the truck’s bed. A subject exited the vehicle and rang the doorbell multiple times. The woman did not recognize the vehicle. The subject left a note and money for her husband. The subject had purchased a tractor the husband placed on Craigslist that the woman did not know about.

• A complaint about a possible rabid opossum under the bushes at Moroso Performance, 80 Carter Drive, was investigated at 9:57 a.m.

• A complaint about a former gym member dropping by the business and flipping off the complainant was investigated at 11:03 a.m.

• Neighbor trouble was investigated below the 100 block of Boston Street at 1:30 p.m.

• A complaint about an ongoing problem of a Guilford High School sports teams running in the road and causing driving hazards was investigated on Long Hill Road at New England Road at 3:27 p.m.

• A complaint about two unfamiliar dogs with tags at the back door of a residence was reported at 360 Race Hill Road at 11:46 p.m. The dogs were gone when police arrived. The area was checked and the dogs could not be located.

Friday, April 21

• A 38 year-old man of Moose Hill Road was arrested at 5:35 p.m. and charged with harassment in the second degree.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 8:36 a.m. A director of the Guilford Land Conservation Trust reported that graffiti was spray painted on land trust property. He wanted the graffiti documented.

• A shoplifting incident was investigated at 1919 Boston Post Road at 2:08 p.m.

Saturday, April 22

No arrests were made.

• Harassment (an ex-wife against the complainant) was investigated on the 1100 block of Moose Hill Road at 11:19 a.m.

• The illegal discharge of firearms was reported at the East River Preserve at 1:38 p.m.

• An anonymous complaint was filed at 3:06 p.m. about the man at the last house on Watering Pond Road at Maupas Road dumping lawn debris onto golf course property. Police could not find any reported debris. A case number was left for the golf course manager in the event that brush or clippings were later located by staff.

Sunday, April 23

No arrests were made.

• A report of a suspicious motor vehicle was investigated at midnight. A caller on Hart Road reported that a motor vehicle went down the dead end road and did not come out.

• A domestic dispute was investigated on Sperry Drive at 12:18 a.m. The incident was a verbal argument between a brother, a sister, and a father.

• A larceny was investigated on Dohm Avenue at 7:36 a.m. The item(s) in question was taken in error.

• A complaint about a vehicle that was tampered with during the overnight hours was investigated at 530 White Birch Drive 8:41 a.m.

• A complaint about a rooster in a yard below the 100 block of Route 80 was investigated at 4:03 p.m. The complainant was worried that the bird would get hit by a vehicle. The rooster eventually walked off into the woods toward its own property. A red tag was left for the rooster’s owner.

• A complaint about two young children riding all-terrain vehicles extremely fast was investigated on the 1600 block of Long Hill Road at 4:24 p.m. Police would not locate the youths.

• A complaint about a young child riding a bike along the railroad tracks was called in from a resident on Horseshoe Road at 5:25 p.m. Police could not locate the bicyclist.

• Harassment was investigated on Alden Drive at 6:22 p.m.

Monday, April 24

No arrests were made.

• A raccoon that was missing a front paw was reported at 7 Timber Lane at 9:37 a.m.

• A larceny was investigated at 400 Church Street at 9:46 a.m.

• A larceny was investigated at Walmart at 1:42 p.m.

• A domestic dispute was reported on Alden Drive at 5:48 p.m.

• A vehicle bearing plate 201ZXZ was repossessed on Country Road at 6:35 p.m.

• Breach of peace was investigated at 400 Church Street at 7:36 p.m.

Tuesday, April 25

No arrests were made.

• Suspicious activity was investigated at 34 York Street at 3:19 p.m. A commercial property owner reported that his or her tenants have found lights on in the morning when reporting to work, and other items tampered with at the building. The property owner asked police for patrol checks during the overnight hours.

Wednesday, April 26

• A 56 year-old Madison woman was arrested at 2:25 p.m. on a warrant charging her with failure to appear in the second degree.

• Disorderly conduct was investigated on the 3200 block of Durham Road at 12:46 a.m.

• Harassment was investigated on the 100 block of South Hoop Pole Road at 11:21 a.m.

• A burglary attempt was investigated at 380 Jefferson Drive at 3:44 p.m.
