Police Incident Report for March 16 to April 5


The Guilford Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in town. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Thursday, March 16

• A 36 year-old East Haven man was arrested at 7:10 a.m. and charged with conspiracy to commit violation of a protective order.

• A 42 year-old man of Narragansett, Rhode Island was arrested at 12:29 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and interfering with an officer following a motor vehicle stop in front of 1795 Boston Post Road.

• A report of two males possibly stealing items was investigated on Partridge Lane at 3:25 p.m.

Friday, March 17

No arrests were made.

• A domestic dispute was investigated on the 100 block of Tanner Marsh Road at 12:30 a.m.

Saturday, March 18

No arrests were made.

• Criminal trespass involving two snowmobiles was investigated at 154 Beaver Head Road at 5:25 p.m.

Sunday, March 19

No arrests were made.

• Criminal mischief was investigated on Bill Rogers Drive at 10:05 a.m. A sign was knocked over by an unknown vehicle.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 47 Horseshoe Road at 1:25 p.m. A mailbox was knocked down.

• A public hazard was reported in front of 293 Durham Road at 3:47 p.m. A large rock was in the roadway.

Monday, March 20

No arrests were made.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 100 East Bearhouse Hill Road at 12:20 p.m. A kiosk was spray painted.

• A civil incident was investigated on the 300 block of Route 80. The complainant wanted his ex-wife to return the snow shovel she borrowed and refused to give back.

Tuesday, March 21

No arrests were made.

• Criminal trespass was investigated on Sullivan Drive at 2:47 p.m. Multiple trail walkers reported that an all-terrain vehicles were being operated on Goose Lane, Bearhouse Lane, and Sullivan Drive.

• A larceny was investigated at 900 Boston Post Road at 3:02 p.m. The suspect was detained until police arrived.

• Harassment was investigated on Mohawk Trail at 3:07 p.m.

• A roaming white bulldog was picked up by police on Whitfield Street and transported to the animal shelter at 7:35 p.m.

Wednesday, March 22

No arrests were made.

• A drug overdose was investigated on State Street at 2:57 a.m.

• A domestic dispute was investigated on Wilderwood Drive at 10:46 a.m. The complainant reported that her ex-husband made a video recording of their children during his March 8 visit.

• A complaint about possible fraud was investigated at 18 Whitehorn Drive at 3:04 p.m. The complaint was later withdrawn.

Thursday, March 23

No arrests were made.

• A complaint about footsteps heard within the house was investigated on the 1400 block of Little Meadow Road. The incident turned out to be the son inside the residence; he had parked on a side road. No problems were reported.

• A complaint about two movers who were believed to be intoxicated and asked to leave was investigated at 80 Fernwood Drive at 1:07 p.m. The men left in a large white moving truck owned by Always Affordable Moving & Storage, Inc., of New Jersey. The truck entered I-95 southbound and Troop G State Police were notified.

• A complaint about harassment was investigated on the 1100 block of Boston Post Road at 4 p.m.

• A complaint about Internet fraud was investigated at 53 Long Hill Road at 5:23 p.m.

• A report of baby squirrels in the house was investigated at 221 Highwoods Drive at 7:17 p.m.

Friday, March 24

No arrests were made.

• A complaint about criminal mischief was investigated at 2311 Boston Post Road (Westwood Wine & Spirits) at 11:08 a.m.

• A complaint about criminal mischief involving graffiti was investigated at 3:32 p.m. at 10 Sullivan Drive at 3:32 p.m.

Saturday, March 25

No arrests were made.

• A complaint about an unwanted person involving parties who met on Craigslist was investigated on Wauwinet Court at 1:38 a.m.

• A complaint about harassment involving an ex-husband texting was investigated on Tanner Marsh Road at 12:30 p.m.

• A complaint about fraud was investigated at 1073 Long Hill Road at 2:01 p.m.

• Suspicious activity was investigated at 2:04 p.m. On March 12 a complainant’s daughters were playing on the Town Green while a white male in an older Nova-type vehicle watched them. On March 25 the same vehicle with different plates was seen at CVS.

• A breach of peace incident was investigated at 124 Boston Post Road at 4:21 p.m.

Sunday, March 26

No arrests were made.

• A dog was found trapped in a baseball field on the 1300 block of Durham Road at 9:22 a.m.

• A complaint about an unwanted person was investigated on Jennifers Drive at 7:57 p.m. A person with a history of alcoholism relapsed. The complainant was escorted by police while driving the accused to his own house on Chasse Drive.

Monday, March 27

No arrests were made.

• A complaint about harassment via text was investigated on the 3100 block of Durham Road at 9:38 a.m.

• A larceny was investigated at 500 Boston Post Road at 12:30 p.m. A person was caught shoplifting and the incident was recorded by surveillance video. The accused drove off in a grey Nissan that had damage to its right side.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 67 Park Street at 2:39 p.m. Around 1:50 a.m. three people wearing masks were surveillance video recorded spray painting the word “Fascist” inside the outline of a pig on the exterior brick wall of the Guilford Free Library. Blue spray paint was used. The video was submitted as evidence to aid in the investigation.

• A complaint about fraud was investigated at 9 Garrison Drive at 6:12 p.m.

Tuesday, March 28

No arrests were made.

• A complaint about fraud was investigated at 34 York Street at 9:05 a.m.

• A complaint about harassment was investigated at 385 Church Street at 9:15 a.m. A patient, who lives in Branford, harassed medical office staff via phone and in person the prior week.

• A complaint about identity fraud was investigated at 117 North Mill Circle at 11:14 a.m.

Wednesday, March 29

• A 60 year-old man of Michael Drive was arrested at 6:34 a.m. and charged with criminal mischief in the third degree, disorderly conduct, assault in the third degree, and strangulation in the third degree.

• The theft of a motor vehicle was investigated on Water Street at 7 a.m. Police located the vehicle in front of Page Hardware.

Thursday, March 30

No arrests were made.

Friday, March 31

No arrests were made.

• A larceny of items from a motor vehicle was investigated at 35 Marshall Avenue at 6:58 a.m.

• The theft of a license plate from a vehicle was reported at 305 Old Sachems Head Road at 3:32 p.m. One of two Connecticut plates was taken bearing 718XSC.

Saturday, April 1

No arrests were made.

• A stray dog (an older brown Labrador with no tags) was reported on Shore Drive at 4:18 p.m.

Sunday, April 2

No arrests were made.

• A report of two people attacked by dogs was investigated on the 200 block of Woodland Road at 7:01 a.m.

Monday, April 3

No arrests were made.

• Complaints from multiple employees who had their tax returns fraudulently filed under their own names were investigated at 2488 Boston Post Road at 10:31 a.m.

• A complaint about attempted fraud (involving a check received in the mail) was investigated at 80 Route 80 at 1:46 p.m.

• Old signs from Bittner Park were found in the woods on Race Hill Road at 2:14 p.m. and returned to Rick Maynard at the Park & Recreation Department.

• An ongoing dumping problem with people dumping furniture on the side of the road was investigated on Bruce Lane at 3:09 p.m. In this instance a bookcase, bike, and two tires were dumped.

• Criminal trespass was investigated at Walmart, 900 Boston Post Road, at 3:35 p.m. The store manager requested that a woman (a resident of Guilford Court) be removed from the story due to the threats she made toward employees.

• Sudden death involving a male was reported on Sunset Circle at 9:06 p.m.

Tuesday, April 4

• A 53 year-old East Haven man was arrested at 11:07 a.m. and charged with violation of probation following an incident at 111 Goose Lane.

• A complaint about a female sitting on the stoop of a doctor’s office at 157 Goose Lane was investigated at 7:40 a.m. The office manager assisted the woman inside the office. Before police arrived the woman stripped naked while in the waiting room and was reported to be in an altered mental state.

• A breach of peace incident involving a dispute between and father and son that turned physical was investigated at the Yale Shoreline Medical Clinic on Goose Lane at 9:41 a.m.

• A complaint about an unwanted person was investigated at 40 Long Hill Road at 12:31 p.m. A client at a salon became argumentative and requested a refund. The refund was provided but the unhappy client still would not leave.

• A fraud complaint was investigated at 10 Ridgeview Circle at 12:54 p.m. Money was taken from the complaint’s account by someone in New York.

• A school bus driver at Adams school reported that a white Jeep bearing Connecticut plate 991NRG failed to stop for the bus that was loading students and had its stop lights engaged at 1:23 p.m.

Wednesday, April 5

No arrests were made.

• A complaint about a ladder in the front yard of a house that was a target of a burglary was investigated at 65 Sachems Head Road at 7:06 a.m.

• A complaint about locks that were tampered with was investigated at 23 Water Street at 11:27 a.m.

• A risk of injury incident was investigated on the 400 block of Maupas Road at 11:44 p.m.

• An animal complaint was investigated at 218 River Street at 2:49 p.m. A complainant reported seeing what was believed to be a dead coyote in a yard. A K9 officer responded. Police learned that the coyote was a fake used to scare geese away.

• A landlord tenant dispute was investigated on the 2600 block of Long Hill Road at 6:25 p.m.

• A complaint about a husband damaging items in a house during a domestic dispute was investigated on Michael Drive at 11:25 p.m.
