Police Incident Report for Feb. 8 to 28


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, Feb. 8 to Friday, Feb. 10

No arrests were made.

Saturday, Feb. 11

No arrests were made.

• A 16 year-old Westbrook girl was issued a verbal warning at 3:03 p.m. for traveling too fast for conditions after the 2000 Jaguar she was operating exited the roadway at a curve and struck a tree. No injuries were reported or observed.

Sunday, Feb. 12

• A 54 year-old man of Dublin, Ohio, was arrested at 1:05 a.m. and charged with disorderly conduct and assault in the third degree following the report of a dispute on Route 154 near the Essex Steam Train yard. In the same incident an 18 year-old man of Cincinnati, Ohio was arrested and charged with the same. Both parties (father and son) were processed and released after posting $5,000 surety bonds and issued court dates of Feb. 14 at Middletown Superior Court.

Monday, Feb. 13

No arrests were made.

• A minor motor vehicle accident was investigated on Main Street at the Spencer Corner business parking lot. A 55 year-old Old Lyme man was operating a Ford F250 pick-up with attached snow plow when he pulled into the parking lot and struck the rear bumper of a parked and unoccupied 2014 BMW. The plow operator did not realize the plow struck the BMW and he drove home. He was located at his home and informed of the accident. The plow had no visible damage, but the rear left corner of the BMW’s plastic bumper cover was damaged. No enforcement action was indicated in the police report.

Tuesday, Feb. 14 to Monday, Feb. 20

Tuesday, Feb. 21

• A 53 year-old man of Lynn Road in Centerbrook was arrested at 8:36 a.m. on a warrant charging him with stalking in the second degree.

Wednesday, Feb. 22 to Tuesday, Feb. 28

Thursday, Feb. 9

• A 27 year-old Middletown woman was arrested at 7:36 a.m. on warrants charging her with larceny in the sixth degree and two counts of failure to appear in the first degree. She was processed and held on a combined $10,000 surety bond amount.

Friday, Feb. 10

No arrests were made.

Saturday, Feb. 11

• A 56 year-old Sherman man was arrested at 6:35 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs (second offense based on a prior DUI arrest and conviction), operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension, and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway following a motor vehicle accident.

Sunday, Feb. 12

Monday, Feb. 13

No arrests were made.

• A two vehicle accident was investigated at the intersection of Westbrook Road and Route 80 at 12:48 p.m. A 75 year-old Killingworth woman was operating a 2012 Ford Fusion eastbound on Route 80 when she was struck by a 2008 Mercury Mariner Premier operated by a 69 year-old Westbrook man who was turning right from Westbrook Road onto Route 80. Both vehicles sustained minor damage. No injuries were reported or observed. No enforcement action was noted in the police report.

• A 74 year-old Old Lyme woman was issued a misdemeanor summons at 8:56 p.m. for traveling unreasonably fast after the 2009 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited he was operating southbound on West Elm Street (Route 80) exited the roadway and struck a tree. The operator was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital by Deep River Ambulance for treatment of a head laceration sustain in the crash. Investigation revealed that the operator was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. The driver’s side airbag was deployed but did not prevent the laceration since the operator’s head struck the windshield.

Wednesday, Feb. 22

No arrests were made.

• At 7:08 a.m. police reported that a 36 year-old man of Castle Heights was operating a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on West Elm Street when he crossed over the center line and side-swiped a westbound 2017 Ford Explorer XLT operated by a 36 year-old Chester woman. No injuries were reported or observed and both vehicles were driven from the scene. The roadway was snow and ice covered at the time of the crash. No enforcement action was indicated in the police press release.

• A 25 year-old Middlebury man was issued a misdemeanor summons at 9:56 p.m. for operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension, failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and misuse of registration after the 2001 Volkswagen Passat he was operating struck the rear of a 2008 Honda Fit operated by a 31 year-old man of Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

Friday, Feb. 10 to Friday, Feb. 24

No arrests were made.

Saturday, Feb. 25

No arrests were made.

• An 18 year-old Plainville woman was issued a citation at 10:23 a.m. for failure to drive right after she lost control of the 2008 Mazda she was operating, veered to the right, exited the travel portion of the roadway, and struck a wire-rope guardrail.

Sunday, Feb. 26 to Tuesday, Feb. 28
