Police Incident Report for Feb. 2 to 29


The Guilford Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in town. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Thursday, Feb. 2

No arrests were made.

• A vehicle repossession was conducted on the 3200 block of Durham Road at 8:29 a.m.

• A complaint about fraud involving a scam via computer/Internet was investigated at 2488 Boston Post Road at 2:10 p.m.

Friday, Feb. 3

• A 32 year-old man of Church Street was arrested at 11:37 a.m. and charged with forgery in the second degree and illegally obtaining a prescription drug.

• A 37 year-old New Haven woman was arrested at 6:19 p.m. and charged with larceny in the sixth degree.

• A 46 year-old Lisbon woman was arrested at 8:08 p.m. and charged with harassment in the second degree.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 610 Saw Mill Road at 7:22 a.m. A mailbox was damaged and four tires were slashed during the overnight hours.

• An animal nuisance was reported at 3900 Durham Road at 7:31 a.m. A swan was stuck in ice 10 feet off the lake shore. The caller attempted to break the ice, but was unsuccessful. The bird was not distressed. DEEP was advised to investigate.

• A motor vehicle accident was investigated in front of 6 Horseshoe Road at 10:27 a.m. A car struck a mailbox.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 31 Fernwood Drive at 5:35 p.m. A mailbox was damaged.

• A shoplifting incident was investigated at 6:15 p.m. at Walmart, 900 Boston Post Road.

Saturday, Feb. 4

• A 52 year-old Branford woman was arrested at 9:03 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, illegal operation of a motor vehicle without an ignition cut-off device, and possession of less than four ounces of marijuana.

• The report of a suspicious person was investigated at 221 Driftwood Lane at 3 a.m. Four officers searched the woods behind a triangulated area between Driftwood Drive, Riverside Court, the end of Michael Drive, and the West River. The case was still under investigation at press time and no other information could be provided.

• A complaint about fraud was investigated at 179 Winthrop Road at 10:14 a.m. The complainant gave identifying information over the phone before realizing the caller was conducting a scam. The complainant wanted to file a preemptive report.

• A domestic dispute was investigated on the 600 block of North Madison Road at 10:32 a.m.

• A complaint about fraud was investigated at 20 Canary Court at 1:16 p.m.

• A littering complaint was investigated at 300 Church Street at 2:02 p.m. The occupant of a black Mercedes bearing CT plate 785UVP dumped a white plastic bag on the west side of the commuter parking lot.

• Harassment was investigated on Russo Drive at 6:53 p.m. The complainant reported that his ex-wife called the house multiple times within the hour.

Sunday, Feb. 5

• A 30 year-old New Haven resident was arrested at 8:31 a.m. and charged with issuing a back check.

• A shoplifting incident was investigated at 1057 Boston Post Road at 11:13 a.m.

• A domestic dispute was investigated on the 1200 block of Durham Road at 1:19 p.m.

• A complaint about fraud involving eBay was investigated at 230 Laurel Brook Drive at 2:04 p.m.

• A complaint about harassment and stalking was investigated on the 2500 block of Durham Road at 2:50 p.m.

• A domestic dispute was investigated on Russo Drive at 5:27 p.m.

Monday, Feb. 6

No arrests were made.

• A domestic dispute was investigated on Hemlock Avenue at 7:28 a.m.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 132 Race Hill Road at 9:19 a.m. A mailbox was smashed and three tires were slashed on a motor vehicle.

• A report of animal bites was investigated at 525 Nut Plains Road at 11:54 a.m.

Tuesday, Feb. 7

• A 42 year-old East Haven man was arrested at 1:26 p.m. and charged with two counts of larceny in the sixth degree.

• A complaint about fraud was investigated at 311 Chaffinch Island Road at 8:20 a.m. The complainant reported receiving a telephone call from a false party claiming to be a representative of the United States Postal Service.

• A complaint about fraud was investigated was investigated at 1124 Little Meadow Road at 12:27 p.m.

• A complaint about fraud was investigated at 69 Horseshoe Road at 12:28 p.m. The complainant reported being asked for personal information over the phone by a scam artist.

• A domestic dispute was investigated on the 1200 block of Durham Road at 12:58 p.m. The incident was a verbal argument between a husband and wife planning to divorce.

Wednesday, Feb. 8

• A 41 year-old New Haven man was arrested at 3:20 p.m. and charged with larceny in the sixth degree and conspiracy to commit larceny in the sixth degree.

• A 33 year-old man of Kissimmee, Florida was arrested at 5:58 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, improper use of a marker plate, and operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license.

• A 26 year-old New Britain man was arrested at 10:19 p.m. and charged with violation of a protective order and interfering with an officer.

• A complaint about Internet fraud was investigated at 44 Copper Hill Drive at 10:45 a.m.

• A complaint about possible fraud was investigated at 30 Village Pond Road at 1:09 p.m.

• A shoplifting incident was investigated at Walmart, 900 Boston Post Road, at 1:30 p.m. The suspect male was in custody at the store and appeared nervous.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 1061 Boston Post Road at 4:59 p.m. The complainant’s car was keyed.

• Neighbor trouble was investigated on Michael Drive at 5:12 p.m.

• Ongoing neighbor trouble was investigated at 5 Boston Post Road at 5:51 p.m.

• A breach of peace incident was investigated at 400 Church Street at 9:06 p.m.

No arrests were made.

Friday, Feb. 10

No arrests were made.

• A complaint about harassment via text messages was investigated on Wilderwood Drive at 12:19 p.m.

• A complaint about juveniles throwing snowballs into the roadway was investigated on the 600 block of Mulberry Point at 8:02 p.m. Police could not locate the youths.

Saturday, Feb. 11

• A 56 year-old man of Landons Way was arrested at 6 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway.

• A complaint about a home owner harassing a snow plow driver was investigated on Huckleberry Court at 10:18 a.m.

• A shoplifting incident was investigated at Yuppie Puppy, 858 Boston Post Road, at 4:26 p.m.

Sunday, Feb. 12

No arrests were made.

• A theft incident was investigated at Guilford Court at 8:36 a.m.

Monday, Feb. 13

No arrests were made.

• A complaint about possible animal cruelty was investigated on the 400 block of Boston Street at 4:31 p.m.

Tuesday, Feb. 14

• A 32 year year-old East Haven woman was arrested at 2 p.m. on a warrant charging her with larceny in the sixth degree and conspiracy to commit larceny in the sixth degree.

• A complaint about credit card theft was investigated on the 2300 block of Boston Post Road at 8:46 a.m.

• A motor vehicle accident was reported in front of 124 White Birch Drive at 9:39 a.m. A vehicle backed into a United States Postal van. No injuries were reported or observed.

• A complaint about harassment was investigated on Davis Drive at 2:08 p.m.

• A complaint about harassment was investigated on the 200 block of Nortontown Road at 3:42 p.m.

• A complaint about fraud via a telephone scam was investigated at 118 Michael Drive at 6:42 p.m.

• A complaint about fraud via identity theft was investigated at 2545 Boston Post Road at 6:44 p.m.

• A theft of mail was investigated at 274 Church Street at 7:14 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 15

• A 53 year-old man of Munger Road was arrested at 5:09 p.m. and charged with violation of a protective order.

• A complaint about juveniles throwing ice balls at vehicles was investigated near 51 Half Mile Road at 7:34 a.m. Police could not locate the youths.

• A complaint about harassment was investigated on Russet Drive at 9:50 a.m.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 71 Waterside Drive at 11:05 a.m. A mailbox was damaged. Police determined the damage may have been caused by a snowplow.

• A theft of a motor vehicle was investigated at 864 Boston Post Road at 3:06 p.m.

Thursday, Feb. 16

• A 63 year-old Bridgeport man was arrested at 12:01 a.m. and charged with larceny in the third degree and forgery in the second degree.

• A complaint about a possible rabid raccoon in the roadway near Bruce Lane was investigated at 6:55 p.m.

Friday, Feb. 17

• A 38 year-old East Hampton woman was arrested at 12:01 a.m. and charged with failure to keep a narcotic in its original container, use or possession of paraphernalia, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, and conspiracy to possess or sell narcotics.

• A 28 year-old East Hampton man was arrested at 12:01 a.m. and charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and conspiracy to possess or sell narcotics.

• A complaint about two juveniles racing mini bikes through the fairgrounds on Lovers Lane was investigated at 4:09 p.m. The offenders could not be located by police.

• An investigation into heroin possession was conducted at 900 Boston Post Road at 6:03 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 18

No arrests were made.

• A welfare check was made at 617 Boston Post Road at 9:08 a.m. A caller reported that a male and a child were sleeping in a black or blue Dodge next to a commercial building.

• A breach of peace incident was investigated at 1961 Boston Post Road at 12:54 p.m.

Sunday, Feb. 19

No arrests were made.

Monday, Feb. 20

• A 51 year-old East Haven man was arrested at 4:26 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, drinking while driving a motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia within 1,500 feet of a school, failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway, and failure to obey a control signal following a motor vehicle stop on Church Street hear I-95.

• A report about a neighbor’s dog getting loose and attacking the complainant’s dog was investigated on Thirsty Hill Road at 8:22 a.m.

Tuesday, Feb. 21

• A 54 year-old Bethany man was arrested at 10:15 a.m. and charged with assault in the second degree with a firearm, threatening in the second degree, strangulation in the third degree, eight counts of disorderly conduct, seven counts of assault in the third degree, and two counts of unlawful restraint in the second degree. Occupation: senior vice president.

• A 59 year-old man of Clapboard Hill Road was arrested at 4:41 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs following a motor vehicle stop in front of 100 Goose Lane. He was operating a black pick-up truck.

• A complaint about a quad operator doing wheelies on the roadway was investigated on Bluff View Drive at 12:33 p.m. Police could not located the suspect.

Wednesday, Feb. 22

No arrests were made.

• Criminal mischief was investigated on the 200 block of Chestnut Grove at 7:03 a.m. Several mailboxes were damaged during the overnight hours.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 183 Sachems Head Road at 8:41 a.m. The rear windshield of a parked vehicle was smashed during the overnight hours.

• A complaint about a damaged mailbox was investigated at 378 Old Sachems Head Road at 6:07 p.m.

Thursday, Feb. 23

• A 77 year-old man of Danvers, Massachusetts, was arrested at 10:18 p.m. and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

• Criminal mischief was investigated on Uncas Point Road at 8:46 a.m. Numerous ‘No Parking’ signs were pulled out of the ground and a stop sign was stuck into a storm drain. A large rock was also placed in a mailbox at 75 Uncas Point Road.

• At 10:11 a.m. Guilford police assisted Clinton police during an investigation at 95 Highwoods Drive regarding the report of suspicious activity at the Clinton Crossings mall. No one was home at the residence and police left a red tag for the owners to initiate contact to aid the investigation.

• A daughter verses father domestic dispute was investigated on Maupas North Road at 10:34 a.m. The father allegedly kicked in the girl’s bedroom door during the verbal argument.

• A complaint about fraud involving a credit card was investigated at 110 Farmview Drive at 2:30 p.m.

• Harassment was investigated on Grist Hill Circle at 9:41 p.m.

Friday, Feb. 24

• A 23 year-old man of Marvel Road was arrested at 8:10 a.m. and charged with criminal mischief in the second degree and disorderly conduct.

• The report of a coyote on the front lawn that appeared injured and foaming at the mouth was investigated at 31 Baldwin Drive at 1:04 p.m. The coyote ran off into the woods when police arrived.

• A breach of peace incident was investigated at 505 Whitefield Street at 1:06 p.m. A patron reportedly threatened a bartender at Guilford Moorings located at the Town Marina and left the premises before police were called.

• Suspicious activity was investigated on the 1200 block of Durham Road at 0:42 p.m. The complainant returned home to find the garage light on. The husband was suspected, upon whom the complainant has a restraining order.

Saturday, Feb. 25

No arrests were made.

• A bat was reported in a house at 6 Adirondack Lane at 7:20 a.m. The bat was gone when police arrived. The complainant was advised to call police again if the bat returned and was given the contact information of a licensed wildlife management company.

Sunday, Feb. 26

• A 46 year-old Clinton man was arrested at 6:30 p.m. and charged with larceny in the sixth degree.

• A complaint about a person operating a red dirt bike on Country Road toward Featherbed Lane was investigated at 12:45 p.m.

• Suspicious activity was investigated at 605 New England Road at 1:17 p.m. A person in a skeleton mask and wearing a grey shirt was reported on the east side of the Guilford High School building.

• A theft of a mailbox was investigated at 20 Sugerbush Lane at 2:46 p.m.

• A larceny was investigated at Walmart at 5:29 p.m.

• A burglary alarm was reported at 18 Davis Drive at 7:54 p.m. The cleaning lady showed up and tripped the alarm, which she said the homeowner normally turns off for her in advance of her arrival. She was unable to make contact with the homeowner and told police she would lock the door and inform the owner.

Monday, Feb. 27

No arrests were made.

• The report of a suspicious person and motor vehicle was investigated at 13 Hazel Road at 6:07 p.m. The complainant observed a male wandering thought the neighbor’s yard and looking in through windows. The man turned out to be the homeowner’s brother and no issues were involved.

• A burglary was investigated at 120 North Street at 8:28 p.m.

• A vehicle was repossessed at 99 Whitfield Street at 10:20 p.m.

Tuesday, Feb. 28

• A 69 year-old man of Long Hill Road was arrested at 10 a.m. on a warrant charging him with failure to pay or plead a citation.

• A complaint about fraud with a credit card was investigated at 80 Cooks Lane at 8:53 p.m.

• A breach of peace incident was investigated at Guilford High School, 605 New England Road, at 12:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 29

No arrests were made.
