Police Incident Report for Nov. 2 to 22


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, Nov. 2 to Thursday, Nov. 10

No arrests were made.

Friday, Nov. 11

No arrests were made.

• A 51 year-old Old Lyme man was issued written warning at 7:36 a.m. for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart after the 2007 Subaru Legacy he was operating westbound on Main Street just west of Railroad Avenue struck the rear of a livery van operated by a 73 year-old Norwich man. The van operator had slowed for the railroad crossing and had engaged the emergency flashers. One juvenile and an aide were passengers onboard the van. No injuries were reported or observed.

Saturday, Nov. 12 to Monday, Nov. 14

No arrests were made.

Tuesday, Nov. 15

No arrests were made.

• A 24 year-old Meriden woman was arrested at 5:31 a.m. and charged with disorderly conduct. The accused was reportedly an unwanted person who refused to leave a residence on Pond Meadow Road and became physical with a 28 year-old person. The accused fled the scene before troopers arrived. She was quickly located and arrested.

Wednesday, Nov. 16

No arrests were made.

• A 69 year-old Manchester man was issued a citation at 3:50 p.m. for failure to grant right of way at an intersection after he turned the 1999 Saab 9-3 he was operating southbound on Middlesex Turnpike at West Avenue into the oncoming path of a 2001 Acura 3.2 TI operated by a 39 year-old Old Saybrook man. Both drivers claimed minor injuries and were transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic for treatment.

• An 88 year-old man of River Road was issued a written warning at 4:41 p.m. for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart after the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country he was operating on Heritage Road struck the rear of a 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera operated by a 33 year-old Colchester man who had stopped suddenly for a deer crossing the roadway. The Porsche operator complained of possible minor injuries and was transported by Essex Ambulance to Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic for evaluation. The warned driver reported no injuries.

• A two-vehicle accident was investigated on Union Street at Elm Street at 8:13 a.m. A 45 year-old woman of River Street was operating a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound on Elm Street when she struck a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado operated by a 58 year-old West Hartford man who was making a left turn from Route 80 onto Union Street. No injuries were reported or observed. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. No enforcement action was indicated in the report.

• A two-vehicle accident was investigated on Main Street approximately three-tenths of a mile north Of Kelsey Hill Road. A 51 year-old woman of Main Street was operating a 2005 Volvo XC90 (with a four year-old boy onboard) out of a private driveway located at 295 Main Street when she struck a 2002 Saab operated by a 38 year-old East Lyme woman. No injuries were reported or observed and no enforcement action was indicated in the report.

• A 62 year-old Ivoryton man was issued a verbal warning at 5:31 p.m. for failure to drive to the right after he swerved to avoid a cat while operating a 1999 Plymouth westbound on Northwinds Drive near Mares Hill Road. The vehicle left the travel portion of the roadway and struck a utility pole. The vehicle was towed from the scene. No injuries were reported or observed.

Friday, Nov. 4 to Tuesday, Nov. 15

Wednesday, Nov. 16

• A 19 year-old woman of Fairview Avenue was arrested at 4:21 p.m. and charged with breach of peace and threatening following the report of a disturbance called into troopers by a neighbor. The accused sent threatening text messages to her parents and had a verbal argument with her father.

Thursday, Nov. 17

No arrests were made.

• A 16 year-old Ivoryton girl was issued a verbal warning at 2:35 p.m. for failing to grant right of way at an intersection after the 2008 Mini Cooper she was operating at the intersection of Warsaw Street at Kelsey Hill Road collided with a 2008 Audi S5 operated by a 30 year-old man of Westerly, Rhode Island. The operator of the Audi was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic in Westbrook for treatment of a possible leg injury.

• A two vehicle accident was investigated on Castle Height Road at Maple Avenue at 1:34 p.m. A 2011 Honda Pilot operated by a 52 year-old man of Maple Avenue and a 1991 Grumman light transport truck operated by a 66 year-old man of Maple Avenue collided. No injuries were observed or reported. There were no witnesses to the crash and no enforcement action was indicated in the trooper’s report.

Saturday, Nov. 19

• A 30 year-old East Hartford man was arrested at 8:02 a.m. and charged with violation of probation/conditional discharge, operating a motor vehicle while under license suspension, and speeding. The accused was radar clocked traveling at 82 miles per hour while operating a grey Chevy Silverado. A computer check of the operator’s international driver’s license revealed that he was a Mexican national whose privilege to drive in Connecticut was suspended. He also had an outstanding warrant for violation of probation as held by New Britain Superior Court. He was processed and held on a combined $52,500 surety bond.

• An 87 year-old Old Saybrook man was issued a citation at 2:46 p.m. for failure to drive right after he lost control of the 2007 Honda Accord LX he was operating westbound on Main Street east of Route 148 and struck the side of the building at 36 Main Street. The operator’s 89 year-old wife was a passenger onboard the vehicle. No injuries were reported or observed. The vehicle as towed from the scee.

Monday, Nov. 7 to Wednesday, Nov. 9

Thursday, Nov. 10

No arrests were made.

• A 52 year-old man of Middlesex Avenue was issued a written warning at 2:40 p.m. for failure to grant right of way at a private driveway after the 2002 Honda Accord he was operating from a driveway onto Pleasant Street collided with a 1998 Honda Civic operated by a 65 year-old man of Deep Hollow Road who had the right of way. No injuries were reported or observed.

Friday, Nov. 11

• Damage to a vehicle parked in a public parking lot on Main Street was investigated at 1:41 p.m. The damage was done between 5 and 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Chester Resident State Trooper’s Office at 860-526-3605.

Sunday, Nov. 13

No arrests were made.

• A two vehicle collision was investigated between a 1996 Honda Civic operated by a 22 year-old man of Ferry Road and a 2013 Toyota Highlander operated by a 59 year-old woman of Winthrop Road at 3:54 p.m. The collision occurred at the intersection of Route 148 and the exit 6 commuter parking lot. No injuries were reported or observed and no enforcement action was indicated in the trooper’s report.

Monday, Nov. 14 to Tuesday, Nov. 22
