Police Incident Report for Oct. 5 to Nov. 1


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, Oct. 5 to Monday, Oct. 10

No arrests were made.

Tuesday, Oct. 11

• A 29 year-old Old Saybrook man was arrested at 6:01 p.m. and charged with violation of a protective order. A complainant informed troopers that her ex-boyfriend called her three times from a private number in violation of a protective order that had been granted her by the court. Of the three calls the complainant answered two of them. The complainant immediately recognized the caller’s voice to be that of her ex-boyfriend. The complaint stated that she did not make any arrangements to meet with accused nor did she call him at any time. The accused admitted to making the calls after being questioned by troopers.

Wednesday, Oct. 12 to Thursday, Oct. 20

No arrests were made.

Friday, Oct. 21

• A 37 year-old man of Westbrook Road was arrested at 12:08 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension, speeding, failure to drive upon the right, and interfering with an officer. The accused was stopped for erratic operation, exited the vehicle, and fled into the woods where he attempted to conceal himself in thick brush near a swamp before being apprehended by troopers. He was processed on a $10,000 non-surety bond.

• A 77 year-old Old Saybrook man was issued a citation at 12:09 p.m. for unspecified charges after he lost control of the 2014 Honda Accord he was operating and struck a metal beam guardrail causing heavy damage to the vehicle. No injuries were reported or observed.

Saturday, Oct. 22 to Monday, Oct. 24

No arrests were made.

Tuesday, Oct. 25

No arrests were made.

• A 77 year-old Middletown man was issued a citation at 3:01 p.m. for failure to grant right of way while exiting a private driveway after the 2016 Jeep Wrangler he was operating was struck by an oncoming 2008 BMW operated by a 47 year-old Westbrook woman. No injuries were reported or observed and the operator of the BMW refused medical treatment at the scene. The collision occurred on Plaint Road near the Route 9 9exit 3 on-ramp.

Wednesday, Oct. 26 to Friday, Oct. 28

No arrests were made.

Saturday, Oct. 29

• A 48 year-old Clinton woman was arrested at 9:40 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs after Troop F received a 911 call about a vehicle that struck a set of concrete stairs leading into a building located at 180 Westbrook Road.

Sunday, Oct. 30

No arrests were made.

Monday, Nov. 31

No arrests were made.

• A 51 year-old man of Main Street in Ivoryton was issued a misdemeanor summons at 7:48 p.m. for operating a motor vehicle without insurance and failure to drive right.

• A 59 year-old Old Lyme man was issued a citation at 10:43 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway after he lost control of the 2004 BMW 325Ci he operating and struck wire rope guard rail and a reflector sign.

Wednesday, Oct. 19 to Saturday, Oct. 22

• A 44 year-old man of Westbrook Road was issued a citation at 12:21 p.m. for unsafe backing after the 2006 Saturn ION he was operating in reverse out of a driveway onto Route 80 was struck by an on-coming 2008 Suzuki Sx4 operated by an 18 year-old Branford man. The Branford man was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Center for evaluation.

Monday, Oct. 24 to Wednesday, Oct. 26

Thursday, Oct. 27

No arrests were made.

• A larceny was investigated at Chester Village West, located on West Main Street, at 10:32 a.m. A resident of the facility reported the theft of prescription medication. The theft was believed to have occurred on Oct. 18. The case remains under investigation.

Friday, Oct. 28

No arrests were made.

• A 27 year-old Clinton man was issued a citation at 7:33 p.m. for traveling too fast for conditions after he lost control of the 2018 Ford Escape he was operating southbound on West Bridge Street just south of Bokum Road and struck a utility pole. No injuries were observed or reported.

Wednesday, Oct. 5 to Wednesday, Oct. 12

Thursday, Oct. 13

• A 66 year-old man of Brooks Lane was issued a citation at 6:15 p.m. for passing on the right after the 2004 Toyota Camry he was operating eastbound on Route 148 struck the right front passenger side of a 2009 Toyota Tundra operated by a 51 year-old man of West Main Street. No injuries were reported or observed.

Friday, Oct. 14

Saturday, Oct. 15

• A 27 year-old Hartford man was arrested at 3:57 p.m. and charged with forgery in the first degree, conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree, criminal attempt to commit larceny in the fourth degree, and conspiracy to commit larceny in the fourth degree. He was processed on a $2,000 surety bond.

Sunday, Oct. 16 to Tuesday, Oct. 18

No arrests were made.

Wednesday, Oct. 19

No arrests were made.

• A 64 year-old woman of Castle View Drive was issued a warning at 1:09 p.m. for failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart after the 2014 Subaru Forester she was operating northbound on Middlesex Avenue struck the rear of a 2012 Chevrolet Express operated by a 48 year-old Ivoryton man who had slowed and signed to make a left turn onto Gilbert Hill. No injuries were reported or observed.

• A 71 year-old Meriden man was issued a warning at 2:46 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway after he lost control of the 1997 Harley-Davidson motorcycle he was operating eastbound on Route 148, veered right, and struck a metal-beam guardrail.
