Police Incident Report for Sept. 14 to Oct. 4


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, Sept. 14 to Sunday, Sept. 18

No arrests were made.

Monday, Sept. 19

No arrests were made.

• A 20 year-old Westbrook man was issued a verbal warning at 8:25 a.m. for traveling too fast for conditions after the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta he was operating struck the rear of a 2016 Ford Mustang operated by a 47 year-old man of Main Street. No injuries were reported or observed.

Tuesday, Sept. 20

Wednesday, Sept. 21

No arrests were made.

• A 60 year-old woman of Oat Street in Ivoryton was issued a written warning at 10:01 p.m. for unsafe backing after she backed down her driveway and sideswiped CL&P utility pole #295. No injuries were observed or reported.

Thursday, Sept. 22

• A 36 year-old Deep River man was arrested at 7:50 a.m. and charged with reckless driving, disobeying the signal of an officer, and operating a motor vehicle without an endorsement.

• A 59 year-old woman of West Avenue was issued a citation at 9:02 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway.

Friday, Sept. 23

No arrests were made.

Saturday, Sept. 24

No arrests were made.

• A 16 year-old Norwich girl was issued a verbal warning at 5:51 p.m. for making an unsafe movement from a stopped or standing position after she drove into a ditch while trying to straighten out of a turn on Mares Hill Road. She was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic for evaluation of a possible injury sustained in the crash.

Sunday, Sept. 25 to Tuesday, Sept. 27

No arrests were made.

Wednesday, Sept. 28

No arrests were made.

• A 59 year-old Old Saybrook man was operating a 2014 Ford E450 northbound on Bokum Road at 12:58 p.m. when he moved to the right shoulder to avoid an on-coming traffic, struck several wood guardrail posts, and drove into a ditch. The offending driver did not stop and no description of the vehicle was available. No enforcement action was taken.

Thursday, Sept. 29 to Saturday, Oct. 1

No arrests were made.

Sunday, Oct. 2

• A 30 year-old Killingworth man was arrested at 11:05 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reckless driving, failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and interfering with an officer. He was processed on a $2,500 bond.

Monday, Oct. 3 to Tuesday, Oct. 4

• A 57 year-old Meriden man was issued a citation at 6:23 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway after the 1999 Subaru Legacy he was operating struck the rear of a 2016 Toyota Camry operated by a 72 year-old Chester man.

Saturday, Sept. 17

No arrests were made.

• A 52 year-old Ivoryton woman was issued a citation at 12:10 p.m. for failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart after the 1998 Chevrolet Lumina she was operating on Main Street struck the rear of a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta operated by a 22 year-old Ivoryton man who had slowed to turn into Dunkin Donuts. No injuries were reported or observed.

Sunday, Sept. 18 to Thursday, Sept. 29

Friday, Sept. 30

• A 38 year-old Westbrook man was arrested at 7:18 a.m. and charged with criminal mischief in the third degree and disorderly conduct.

Saturday, Oct. 1 to Sunday, Oct. 2

No arrests were made.

Monday, Oct. 3

• A 43 year-old Old Saybrook man and a 35 year-old Southington woman was arrested at 9:08 p.m. charged with breach of peace and assault in the third degree following a physical altercation on a roadside.

Tuesday, Oct. 4

Chester

Wednesday, Sept. 14

• A larceny was investigated at 61 Pleasant Street at 6:08 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 16

No arrests were made.

• A 25 year-old Hartford man was issued a misdemeanor summons at 4:29 p.m. for reckless driving after the 2008 Mercedes E Class he was operating struck the rear of one vehicle and then struck another vehicle. The charged operator and the operator of one of the struck vehicles sustained injuries in the crash and were transported to area hospitals for treatment. All three vehicles were towed from the scene.

Saturday, Sept. 17

• A 44 year-old man of Bates Road was arrested at 1:13 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension, evading responsibility in the operation of a motor vehicle (fleeing the scene of an accident), failure to obey a stop sign, and operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license following a two vehicle crash on West Main Street at Pleasant Street. No injuries were reported or observed. He was processed on a $5,000 bond amount.

Sunday, Sept. 18 to Monday, Sept. 19

Tuesday, Sept. 20

No arrests were made.

• A burglary was investigated at 191 Middlesex Turnpike at 12:25 a.m. following the report of an alarm at the Chester Bottle Shoppe. Forced entry was made through the front door. A cash box was stolen that contained $200 to $500 of mix denomination bills. Anyone with information is asked to contact Troop F at 860-399-2100. All calls will be kept confidential.

Thursday, Sept. 22

• A 36 year-old man of Bates Road was arrested at 2:19 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

• A 59 year-old woman of West Avenue was issued a citation at 9:02 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway after the 1999 Chevy S10 he was operating northbound on Main Street veered outside of the travel lane and struck the rear of a parked and unoccupied 2007 Honda Pilot. The cited drive reported right arm pain and was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Center for treatment.

Friday, Sept. 23 to Sunday, Oct. 2

Monday, Oct. 3 to Tuesday, Oct. 4

No arrests were made.

• A 32 year-old Deep River woman was issued a citation at 8:51 p.m. for failure to obey a stop sign after she lost control of the 2003 Jeep Wrangler she was operating southbound on Route 145, traveled through the stop sign at routes 144 and 148 while trying to make a turn, and drove into a wooded area and struck a tree. The operator sustained minor injuries to her nose and was transported to the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic by Chester Ambulance for evaluation.
