Police Incident Report for Aug. 18 to Sept. 14


The Guilford Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in town. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Thursday, Aug. 18

• A 48 year-old man of Wauwinet Court was arrested at 3:09 a.m. and charged with assault in the third degree and disorderly conduct.

• A 41 year-old woman of Denver, Pennsylvania was arrested at 8:26 a.m. and charged with larceny in the first degree, identity theft in the first degree, and criminal impersonation.

• A welfare check was made at 381 Boston Post Road at 12:12 a.m. A man was sleeping in a car.

• A report of suspicious behavior was investigated at 1675 Boston Post Road at 9:33 p.m. A man was behind the counter of Xtra Mart hitting the store safe with a sledge hammer. The man turned out to be a safe repairman.

Friday, Aug. 19

• A 42 year-old man of the 1200 block of Boston Post Road was arrested at 10:15 a.m. and charged threatening in the second degree.

• A theft of copper tubing was investigated at 1483 Moose Hill Road at 10 a.m.

• A cell phone was reported stolen at 2995 Boston Post Road at 2:47 p.m.

• A theft was investigated at 78 Norton Avenue at 6:25 p.m.

• Threatening and harassment (via a verbal argument) between a husband and wife was investigated on Seaside Avenue at 8:47 p.m.

• An animal nuisance was investigated on the 500 block of Leetes Island Road at 10:23 p.m. A complainant reported that a dog was tied up outside a neighbor’s house and that the owner was not home and the dog was barking non-stop.

Saturday, Aug. 20

No arrests were made.

• A theft of services was investigated at 1099 Boston Post Road at 11:05 a.m.

• Neighbor trouble was investigated on Mafre Drive at 8:26 p.m. A complainant reported that a neighbor had removed landscaping stones from her property and was driving on her lawn.

• A complaint about loud noise from a large party was investigated on High Street at 10:01 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 21

• A 22 year-old East Haven man was arrested at 5:07 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway.

• A domestic dispute was investigated at Boston Terrace at 3:46 a.m.

• A shoplifting incident was investigated at 900 Boston Post Road at 3:45 p.m.

Monday, Aug. 22

No arrests were made.

• A complaint about a neighbor’s dog was investigated on Grist Mill Circle at 3:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Aug. 23

• A 33 year-old man of Hyannis, Massachusetts was arrested at 2:02 a.m. on a warrant charging him with failure to appear in the second degree.

• A 39 year-old man of Boston Terrace was arrested at 6:30 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 244 Church Street at 7:44 a.m. A vehicle was damaged and air was let out its tires.

• A hawk was reported trapped in the hallway of a condo unit at 15 River Colony at 9 a.m. The bird was rescued to Blue Moon Raptors.

• A complaint about fraud via telephone was investigated at 1310 Boston Post Road at 3:50 p.m.

• A resident of 345 Wilburn Lane reported that a raccoon was lying down on the deck for the last hour and that the animal was breathing heavily.

Wednesday, Aug. 24

No arrests were made.

• A street sign was taken from Sugarbush Lane at the Route 80 intersection.

• A theft from a motor was investigated at 537 Mulberry Point Road at 7:21 p.m. The complainant came outside to find her glove box open and some items missing.

Thursday, Aug. 25

• A 17 year-old Deep River man was arrested at 2:45 p.m. and charged with larceny in the sixth degree.

• A theft of items from a motor vehicle was investigated at 274 Church Street at 1:29 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 26

• A 34 year-old man of Driftwood Lane was arrested at 8:15 a.m. and charged with assault in the third degree, unlawful restraint in the second degree, breach of peace, threatening in the second degree, and assault in the third degree.

• A 31 year-old man of Yonkers, New York was arrested 11:11 a.m. and charged with larceny in the sixth degree and conspiracy to commit larceny in the sixth degree.

• A 25 year-old man of Bronx, New York was arrested at 12 p.m. and charged with larceny in the sixth degree and conspiracy to commit larceny in the sixth degree.

• A report of animal bites was investigated at 11 Harrison Road at 9:33 a.m. A complainant reported that a cat bit her granddaughter.

Saturday, Aug. 27

No arrests were made.

• A complaint about fraud was investigated at 308 Granite Road at 10:36 a.m.

Sunday, Aug. 28

No arrests were made.

• Neighbor trouble was investigated on Quonnipaug Hill at 9:39 a.m. A neighbor allegedly dropped a tree onto the complainant’s property.

• Harassment was investigated on the 300 block of Church Street at 10:52 a.m.

Monday, Aug. 29

No arrests were made.

• A resident of 888 North Madison Road reported hearing a noise around 3:37 a.m. and wanted his house checked.

• A theft was investigated at 11:53 a.m. A handicap placard was removed from a parked and unoccupied vehicle at 110 Broad Street.

• An animal nuisance was investigated a 3 Ives Place at 2:55 p.m. A sick raccoon was reported in the rear yard.

• Criminal trespass was investigated at 1 Circle Beach Road at 6:05 p.m. Four youths were on the roof of the Grass Island house. Officers spoke to the individuals and advised them of the no trespassing rules.

• A dumping violation was investigated at 747 Old Pent Road at 6:36 p.m. Fish and clams were dumped.

No arrests were made.

Wednesday, Aug. 31

No arrests were made.

• A complaint about fraud via email was investigated at 99 South Hoop Pole Road at 3:34 p.m.

• An animal nuisance was reported at 143 Driftwood Lane at 5:08 p.m. A cat was up a tree.

Thursday, Sept. 1

No arrests were made.

• Suspicious activity was investigated at 633 Boston Post Road at 1:36 a.m. Two people with flashlights were behind Boss Pizza. Police identified the men as employees of Eversource working in the area. The complainant was advised.

• A domestic dispute (verbal argument only) was investigated on Clear Lake Manor at 6:26 a.m.

• A child’s bicycle was reported missing from the 200 block of Church Street at 2:41 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 2

• A 27 year-old man of Long Hill Road was arrested at 4:18 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, using a hand-held cell phone while driving, and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway.

• A 53 year-old man of Still Meadow Road was arrested at 10:42 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct and assault in the third degree.

• A handicap placard was reported stolen from 2042 Long Hill Road at 1:50 p.m.

• An eviction process was supported by police at 47 Driveway at 2:36 p.m.

• A male yelling for help in a wooded area near 97 Cedar Hill Road was reported at 4:40 p.m. Police determined the man was calling for his dog and not seeking help.

• A theft was investigated at 65 State Street at 4:57 p.m.

• A theft of services was reported at 725 Boston Post Road at 8:14 p.m. A patron of KC’s Pub left without paying the bill. The complaint was a possible error because of a medical condition.

Saturday, Sept. 3

• A 57 year-old Madison man was arrested at 6:07 p.m. and charged with breach of peace in the second degree.

• A breach of peace/indecent exposure incident was investigated at 1919 Boston Post Road at 5:24 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 4

• A 36 year-old man of Mulberry Point was arrested at 4 p.m. on a warrant charging him with failure to appear in the second degree.

• A burglary was investigated at 602 West Lake Avenue at 10:52 a.m. Police determined that the landlord entered the apartment and that no burglary occurred.

• A noise complaint was reported at Fireman’s Field on Long Hill Road. Police requested that the loud music at the field event be turned down.

Monday, Sept. 5 to Tuesday, Sept. 6

No arrests were made.

Wednesday, Sept. 7

No arrests were made.

• A complaint about fraud with a credit card was investigated at 123 Coventry Way at 8:31 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 8

No arrests were made.

• A complaint about fraud involving invasion of private information was reported at 119 Sunset Circle at 10:43 a.m.

• A complaint about fraud involving an attempted IRS scam was reported at 111 Mill Stone Drive at 5:36 p.m.

• A domestic dispute was investigated on Grey Ledge Drive at 5:59 p.m.

• A report of an intoxicated woman was investigated on the 1300 block of Boston Post Road at 6:20 p.m.

• At 9:33 p.m. a woman of the 2000 block of Little Meadow Road reported an incident that was disclosed to her by her three-year-old son.

Friday, Sept. 9

No arrests were made.

• A structure fire was reported at 80 Seaview Terrace at 3:02 a.m. A condo unit was completely destroyed. The fire spread into an adjacent unit before the fire was brought under control.

• Criminal mischief was investigated on the 300 block of Durham Road at 7:19 a.m. The operator of a black Cadillac lit a bottle rocket in the area and left before police could arrive.

• At 9:25 a.m. a resident of Lanes Pond Road reported hearing rapid gunfire from the nearby club over a period of several days. Police checked the club and no one was there. Police were unable to locate the source of the shots.

• A theft was investigated at 1310 Boston Post Road at 2:05 p.m.

• A theft of items from a vehicle parked at 28 Conway Drive was investigated at 2:23 p.m.

• A complaint about fraud with a credit card was investigated at 483 Colonial Road at 5:41 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 10

No arrests were made.

• A domestic dispute/breach of peace incident was investigated on Lakeside Drive at 8:39 p.m. The caller reported hearing two men fighting. Police received a second call about the incident. Once police arrived they discovered that there was no dispute; the men were simply partaking in “horse play.”

Sunday, Sept. 11

• A 24 year-old woman of South Fair Street was arrested at 8:46 a.m. and charged with criminal mischief in the third degree.

• A 50 year-old man of Rock Point Lane was arrested at 9:17 a.m. and charged with assault in the third degree, disorderly conduct, threatening in the second degree, and risk of injury to a minor.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 460 Granite Road at 6:49 a.m. A bank of mailboxes was knocked over.

• A domestic dispute was investigated on Rock Point Lane at 8:46 a.m.

Monday, Sept. 12

No arrests were made.

• A theft of items from a motor vehicle was reported at 33 Whitfield Street at 9:08 a.m. The items were taken from a priest’s vehicle two weeks earlier.

• A theft was investigated at 84 Dohm Avenue at 5:07 p.m. A driver’s license and credit card were missing from the complainant’s wallet. The items were stolen while the complainant was in Maine.

Tuesday, Sept. 13

No arrests were made.

• A report of suspicious behavior was investigated at 201 Saw Hill Road at 5:26 a.m. The complainant reported that his garage door was open and that he had heard voices in the woods 15 minutes earlier.

• A complaint about inappropriate sexual contact was investigated at 12:11 p.m. The location of the incident was kept private by police.

• A complaint about attempted fraud was investigated at 36 Boston Terrace at 3:54 p.m.

• A domestic dispute was investigated on Cedar Hill Road at 8:52 p.m.

• A complaint about juveniles throwing rocks from a bridge was investigated on Leetes Island Road at 9:46 p.m. Police searched from that location to the Branford line and could not locate the suspect youths.

Wednesday, Sept. 14

No arrests were made.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 1919 Boston Post Road at 11:17 a.m. A window was smashed.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 244 Church Street at 12:58 p.m.

• A complaint about fraud was investigated at 2321 Long Hill Road at 9:40 p.m.
