Police Incident Report for Aug. 3 to 9


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Chester

Wednesday, Aug. 3

No arrests were made.

Thursday, Aug. 4

No arrests were made.

• A 33 year-old Middletown man was issued a verbal warning at 11:44 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. Operating a 2015 Toyota Prius, he became drowsy, drifted off the roadway, and struck a wire rope guardrail.

Friday, Aug. 5

No arrests were made.

• The theft of a package delivered to the front porch of a Castle View Drive residence was investigated at 12:17 p.m. The theft occurred between 11:20 a.m. and noon. Anyone with information about this theft is asked to call the Chester Resident State Trooper’s Office at 860-526-3605.

Saturday, Aug. 6 to Tuesday, Aug. 9

Essex

Wednesday, Aug. 3 to Saturday, Aug. 6

Sunday, Aug. 7

No arrests were made.

• A motor vehicle crash was investigated on Pond Meadow Road at 1:54 p.m. A 19 year-old Deep River man was operating a 2001 Dodge Stratus southbound on Pond Meadow Road near #84 when he veered the vehicle off the right side of the roadway and struck a mailbox before coming to final rest over a boulder. The vehicle sustained moderate damage to the undercarriage and was towed from the scene by Eric’s Autobody. No injuries were reported or observed and there were no witnesses to the crash. No enforcement action was indicated in the police report.

Deep River

Wednesday, Aug. 3 to Monday, Aug. 8

No arrests were made.

Tuesday, Aug. 9

• A 59 year-old man of Plains Road was arrested at 3:27 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive right. The accused drove off the roadway, struck an Eversource utility pole on Bahr Road, and split the pole in half. No injuries were reported or observed.
