Police Incident Report for June 23 to 29


The Guilford Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in town. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Thursday, June 23

• A 39 year-old man of Great Hill Road was arrested at 10:46 p.m. and charged with assault in the third degree and disorderly conduct.

• Neighbor trouble was investigated on Broad Street at 10:04 a.m.

• An animal nuisance was reported at 10 Old New England Road at 10:07 a.m. A beagle was stuck in a swamp.

• A theft was investigated at 459 Route 80 at 1:51 p.m. An outside traffic mirror and pole were taken.

Friday, June 24

No arrests were made.

• A domestic dispute involving an intoxicated male was investigated on the 500 block of Nut Plains Road at 12:52 a.m.

• A possible overdose incident involving a 31 year-old unresponsive male was investigated on the 400 block of Three Mile Course at 8:02 p.m.

Saturday, June 25

No arrests were made.

• A noise complaint was investigated on the 200 block of Tanner Marsh Road at 5 p.m. Loud music was coming from a house nearby.

• A complaint about peddling was investigated on Horseshoe Road at 5:01 p.m. A well-dressed man in his 20s, wearing a bow tie, was going door to door selling magazines. The man was gone when police arrived to check the area.

Sunday, June 26

• A 33 year-old Haddam man was arrested at 1:49 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, improper use of marker plate, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

• A complaint about a loud party with numerous people gathered outside was investigated on Taylor Lane at 1:46 a.m.

• A complaint about Internet fraud via email was investigated at 1641 Durham Road at 9:43 a.m.

• An animal nuisance was investigated at 400 Leetes Island Road at 5 p.m. Two cows were in the roadway on Route 146. The cows belonged to the Page family, which responded and returned the cows to their field.

• Neighbor trouble was investigated on Barnshed Lane at 12:26 p.m.

Monday, June 27

• A 42 year-old Deep River man was arrested at 6:44 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension, failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway, and failure to obey a traffic signal.

• A 61 year-old man of Stonehedge was arrested at 11:22 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct and interfering with an emergency 911 call.

• Criminal mischief was investigated on Taliar Ridge Road at 7:20 p.m. Someone tried to throw an egg into a car on Water Street. The complainant was concerned that the incident could have been racially motivated.

Tuesday, June 28

No arrests were made.

Wednesday, June 29

• A 50 year-old New Haven man was arrested at 12:22 p.m. and charged with forgery in the first degree and larceny in the third degree.

• Criminal trespass was investigated on 43 South Fair Street at 3:39 p.m. A complainant reported that an acquaintance of the daughter in the household was sleeping in the barn on the property.

• Harassment by a neighbor was investigated on Lone Pone Trail at 9:59 p.m.

During the week of June 23 to 29 Guilford Police received 189 calls for service. Police made five arrests, investigated 30 motor vehicle accidents, and issued nine citations, 85 written warnings, two verbal warnings, and one parking tag. Police also responded to 12 false burglar alarms. A total of 361 incidents were handled by police.
