Police Incident Report for June 9 to 15


The Guilford Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in town. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Thursday, June 9

• An 18 year-old Madison man was arrested at 10:08 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and illegal operation a motor vehicle with an a ignition interlock device.

• An animal nuisance was reported at 212 Mulberry Point Road at 11:28 a.m. A skunk was caught in a Havahart trap.

• An animal nuisance was reported at 379 Old Whitfield Street at 12:21 p.m. A skunk family was roaming in the area.

• An animal nuisance was investigated at 65 Orcutt Drive at 1:35 p.m. Two hound dogs were in the yard.

• Criminal trespass was investigated at 259 Wilderwood Drive at 8:25 p.m. The homeowner reported that an unknown person was riding at all-terrain vehicle up and down the driveway. The suspect was gone when police arrived.

Friday, June 10

• A 33 year-old man of Whitefield Street was arrested at 1:46 a.m. and charged with breach of peace in the second degree and criminal mischief in the first degree.

• A 36 year-old East Haven man was arrested at 3:07 p.m. and charged with criminal trespass in the third degree, criminal impersonation, interfering with an officer, operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension, possession of burglar’s tools, and conspiracy.

• A 37 year-old East Haven man was arrested at 3:56 p.m. and charged with criminal trespass in the third degree and conspiracy to commit criminal trespass.

• Suspicious activity was investigated at 539 Colonial Road at 1:48 p.m. A caller reported that a white male in his 20s or 30s wearing baggie jeans, a black hoodie sweatshirt, and sunglasses was walking between houses with a camera.

• A theft was investigated at 5002 Durham Road at 4:29 p.m. A complainant reported that someone was charging gas to his account and that he also had money stolen in Branford.

• A loud party was reported on Stepstone Hill Road at 9:59 p.m.

Saturday, June 11

• A 20 year-old Northford man was arrested at 3:16 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway, and failure to obey a traffic control signal.

• A 25 year-old woman of Boston Post Road was arrested at 10:45 a.m. and charged with cruelty to animals.

• Loud music was reported near the field on Seaside Avenue at 12:53 a.m. The party responsible turned down the music.

• A theft was investigated at 900 Boston Post Road at 1:29 p.m. A complainant at Walmart reported that a white male in his 20s took a floral pocketbook and jewelry from a vehicle parked in the parking lot.

• An animal nuisance was reported at 930 Boston Post Road at 10:07 p.m. Five baby skunks were with a dead mother.

Sunday, June 12

• A 23 year-old woman of Thorn Hill Road was arrested at 3:15 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, improper stop or turn signal, and possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana.

• An animal nuisance was reported at 280 South Union Street at 12:33 p.m. A snapping turtle was on the playground of Calvin Leete Elementary School. The caller was very concerned about the safety of children at the school. Police were unable to locate the turtle.

Monday, June 13

No arrests were made.

Tuesday, June 14

No arrests were made.

• A theft of copper pipes from 98 Prospect Hill Road was investigated at 10:44 p.m. The residence was reported as a bank-owned home.

• A breach of peace incident was investigated at 73 New England Road at 3:21 p.m. A complainant reported that two men were at the end of her driveway with a silver Mercedes Benz.

• Neighbor trouble was investigated on the 200 block of Woodland Road at 7 p.m. The incident was over an ongoing dispute over a property line.

Wednesday, June 15

No arrests were made.

• An animal nuisance was reported at 4429 Durham Road at 7:05 a.m. A complainant reported that a raccoon was wobbling at the end of the driveway. Police checked the area and could not find the raccoon.

• Criminal mischief was investigated at 200 Lakeside Drive at 12:34 p.m. A sign was sawed off.

• A complaint about an unwanted gift was investigated at 95 Highwood Drive at 12:48 p.m.

• Neighbor trouble was investigated on Lone Pine Trail at 1:16 p.m.

During the week of June 9 to 15, Guilford Police received 226 calls for service. Police made seven arrests, investigated 29 motor vehicle accidents, and issued nine citations, 73 written warnings, three verbal warnings, and one parking tag. Police also responded to 17 false burglar alarms. A total of 385 incidents were handled by police.
