Police Incident Report for June 1 to 7


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, June 1

No arrests were made.

• A 48 year-old woman of Clark Lane was issued a written warning at 8:55 a.m. for failure to grant right of way at an intersection after the 2007 Volvo XC70 she was operating eastbound on Route 153 collided with a 2012 GMC Yukon operated by a misidentified driver. (The same person was listed as the driver of both vehicles in the written police report.)

Thursday, June 2

No arrests were made.

Friday, June 3

No arrests were made.

• A 20 year-old man of Main Street was issued a citation at 10:19 a.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway and operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license following a one-vehicle crash on Main Street near Dennison Road. He was operating a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer.

• A 25 year-old New Britain woman was issued a citation at 11:59 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway and distracted driving following a one-vehicle crash. She was operating a 2007 Infinity G35.

Saturday, June 4 to Monday, June 6

No arrests were made.

Tuesday, June 7

• A 26 year-old Norwich man was arrested at 10:58 a.m. and charged with failure to keep a prescription drug in its original container, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and operating a motor vehicle while using a hand-held cell phone following a motor vehicle stop on Main Street.

Deep River

Wednesday, June 1

No arrests were made.

• Troopers investigated at single vehicle motor vehicle crash on Main Street near Kirtland Street. A 55 year-old woman of Main Street was operating a 2001 Mazda Miata westbound in the top level of the Piano Works apartment building parking lot when she lost control of the vehicle, which struck a light pole, traveled through a metal fence, went over the stone retaining wall, and came to rest on its roof on the lower parking level. The operator was removed from the vehicle by members of the Deep River Fire Department and airlifted to Hartford Hospital by Life Star. The operator sustained a laceration to her head. No charges were filed since the case was still under investigation.

Thursday, June 2 to Saturday, June 4

Sunday, June 5

No arrests were made.

• A 51 year-old Guilford man was issued a verbal warning at 8:45 a.m. for traveling too fast for conditions after he lost control of the 1998 Honda Accord he was operating northbound of Warsaw Street, struck a tree stump and a mailbox on the front lawn of 111 Warsaw Street, rolled onto its side, and then came to rest on its roof. The operator sustained minor injuries and was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital for evaluation and observation.

• A two-vehicle crash was investigated on Route 80 at Union Street. A 61 year-old Chester man was operating a 2019 Ford Escape when he failed to see the overhead traffic light in time and was already in the intersection when he collided with a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by an 18 year-old man of Bushy Hill Road. No injuries were reported or observed and no enforcement action was indicated in the police report.

Monday, June 6

No arrests were made.

Tuesday, June 7

No arrests were made.

• An 18 year-old Essex man was issued a citation at 12:45 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper distance apart after the 2004 Volkswagen S60 he was operating southbound on Warsaw Street near the intersection of Stanwoll Hill Road struck the rear of a 2007 Volvo S60 operated by a 31 year-old Old Saybrook man. Both operators were transported to Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic in Westbrook for evaluation of injuries sustained in the crash.

Chester

Wednesday, June 1 to Friday, June 3

No arrests were made.

Saturday, June 4

• A 40 year-old Niantic woman was arrested at 3:57 p.m. on a warrant charging her with larceny in the third degree. She was processed and released after posting a $7,500 surety bond.

Sunday, June 5 to Tuesday, June 7

No arrests were made.
