Guilford Police Incident Report for April 30 to May 2


The Guilford Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in town. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for length and content.

Monday, April 30

• A 23 year-old Saddle Hill Drive resident was charged on a warrant with credit card theft, credit card fraud, receipt from illegal use of credit card, first-degree burglary, third-degree forgery and sixth-degree larceny.

• A 53 year-old Madison resident was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs or both, reckless driving, failure to drive in the proper lane and following too closely.

• An officer shot an opossum after responding to a report of an injured animal on a back porch, Briarwood Drive, 7:32 a.m.

• An officer put out a mulch fire with an extinguisher kept in the police cruiser, after responding to a report from a caller who smelled smoke in the area while traveling along Boston Post Road, 2900 block, 8:04 a.m. Guilford Fire Dept. also responded to the scene.

• Public hazard, utility pole near 25 Boston Street has sparking wires, 8:14 a.m. CL & P was notified.

• Theft from auto, County Road, reported at 8:52 a.m.

• Criminal mischief, graffiti in a bathroom at Guilford High School, 605 New England Road.

• A wallet was found in the parking lot at Bishop’s Orchards Farm Market, 1355 Boston Post Road.

• Suspicious activity, two young males at vacant house, Fox Run, 4:21 p.m.

• A leaf blower was found on the side of Horseshoe Road.

• Family dispute, Sperry Drive, 5:21 p.m.

Tuesday, May 1

• No arrests were made.

• An officer shot an injured fox after it was reported in the road on Route 80, 300 block, 12:04 a.m.

• Criminal mischief, mailbox damaged 20 minutes ago, Colonial Road, reported at 7:11 a.m.

• Criminal mischief, onion field run over by vehicle at approximately 3:30 p.m. on April 30.

• Criminal mischief, mailbox damaged in last 90 minutes, Leetes Island Road; reported at 9:58 a.m.

• A roaming cow was reported as an animal nuisance, Durham Road, 3400 block, 3:25 p.m.

• Criminal mischief, damage to rear building, Boston Post Road, 800 block.

• A burglary to a residence was reported at a Three Mile Course address, 7:04 p.m.

• A person operating a vehicle without the owner’s permission was reported from a Lake Drive address, 9:08 p.m.

Wednesday, May 2

• A 43 year-old Whispering Wood resident was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs or both.

• Criminal mischief, vehicle damaged overnight, Laurelbrook Drive.

• Police assisted with delivering Internal Revenue Service arrest warrants to a North River Street address, 7:40 a.m.

• An identification card was found at the town docks, Farmers Wharf Road.

• Suspicious activity concerning a problem an employee encountered with two customers during the evening of April 30 was reported at Guilford Food Center, 77 Whitfield St.

• Suspicious activity, resident reports male came to the door of her home with a hand-written note concerning selling her house or doing yard work, Greystone Way, 6:06 p.m.

• Breach of peace, male and female having an argument behind Flutterby’s, 55 Whitfield St., 6:16 p.m.

• A sick raccoon was reported in a yard on Old Whitfield Street, 7:43 p.m.

• A theft of service was reported from a Seaside Avenue address, 10:48 p.m.

From April 26 through May 2 Guilford Police Department received 212 calls for service. Police made nine arrests, investigated 27 motor vehicle accidents, issued nine infractions, 34 written warnings and two verbal warnings.
